Lunar Surface Sample Collection Bag For Scoop

Lot # 129 (Sale Order: 131 of 507)

An original 5"x 5" cylindrical plastic lunar material collection bag of the type actually used on the lunar surface by the astronauts. I have provided a photo showing an Apollo 12 astronaut on the lunar surface near the cylindrical case where these plastic bags were stored for easy access - the aluminum 'flags' can be seen sticking out the slot. This bag was used in training and has an aluminum rim to facilitate easy opening and closing, and are numbered for later determining when and where a sample was scooped. Most times these bags were fitted on the end of a long scoop so the astronaut wouldn't have to leave the rover to collect a sample. More photos of this type of bag in use will appear when the auction lots are moved over to Proxibid. Nice condition and quite uncommon....more
