Item Description: Translate description
An original Lunar Module RCS heater assembly from Grumman complete with its original Grumman packaging, and also stamped with the words FLIGHT ITEM. The label bears the date 7/67 and the NASA/Grumman LM contract number of NAS9-1100. The heater assembly is sealed in the packaging, but measures about 4" across. I have provided a couple pictures of an identical heater that has been removed from its packaging. Two of these electric heaters encircled each of the 16 Marquard R-4D Reaction Control System (RCS) engines on the Lunar Module to control propellant temperature by heating the combustion chamber the and the propellant solenoid valves. This same style heater was also employed on the Service Module RCS engines. Thanks for this description goes to Scott Schneeweis at spaceaholic.com.
