Item Details
A rare and unique Massachusetts Arms Company pocket revolver utilizing Maynard's Patent for his priming tape, chambered in .28 caliber. The Massachusetts Arms Company would first produce the Wesson and Levitt dragoon revolver which violated several of Colt's patents at the time. To remain in business, the Massachusetts Arms Company would redesign the revolver to make a gun that was legally not in violation of Colt's patents. This revolver would use the Maynard priming system and would use it under license for these revolvers until 1857 when Colt's patents finally expired. The revolver would be produced in 2 variants with a .31 caliber belt model and a .28 caliber pocket model, of which this is the latter. The Massachusetts Arms Co. would produce roughly 1,000 in total. This pocket model is number 616 as marked underneath the side plate. This revolver has an automatically indexing cylinder where the cylinder indexes when cocking the hammer. Revolver has 3" barrel with fixed sights. Side plate is marked "Maynard's Patent/Sep. 22. 1845", top strap is marked "Mass. Arms Co./Chicopee Falls". Finish is in overall fair to good condition with some minor rust on side plate and on engraved cylinder. Bright fire blue still present on barrel and barrel latch though worn. Engraved cylinder and frame have mostly turned to a brown patina with some blue still showing in lower handling areas. Wood grips are in overall good condition with no chips or cracks. Bore has some minor patches of surface rust and is dusty with well defined rifling. Hammer indexes cylinder when cocked and cog wheel for tape primer rotates with every cocking. This revolver comes in a wooden case with original lining, Mass. Arms Co. Cap for tin of Maynard primer tape, Mass Arms Co. marked dual cavity brass bullet mold, unmarked powder flask, disassembly tool, and more. A nice example of a scarce, unique revolver with a not often seen priming system. Perfect for any antique revolver collector. See photos. Antique firearm, no FFL required with this firearm.

Terms Of Sale
We work very hard for the consignor as well as the buyer. The auction moves fast between the auctioneer, the on site bids, and the live internet bids. Because of this, one little delay, or what we call 'hiccup' in the internet connection, can cause an online bid to be missed. We apologize if this happens, but it is sometimes inevitable. Please be aware of this when attending a Proxibid auction.
Due to the element of Third Party Auctions and the reliability/unreliability of technical issues, we reserve the right to end an auction early or extend an auction as we see fit. We value our customers, both buyers and sellers, and try very hard to ensure an exciting, smooth, successful auction! We are happy and willing to work with you under any circumstances.
PLEASE NOTE:
When you bid on any item, you are entering into a binding contract. Bidder acknowledges and understands that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. All property is sold 'AS IS', and ALL SALES ARE FINAL. There are absolutely no refunds, exchanges and returns on ANY items.
Donley Auction Services may attempt to describe the merchandise in advertising, on the Internet and at the auction but makes no representations. In no event shall Donley Auction Services be held responsible for having made or implied any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. The bidder shall be the sole judge of value, condition, age, genuineness, value or any other determinative factor.
Bidders who bid off site and are not present at the live auction or preview understand and acknowledge that they may not be able to inspect an item as well as if they examined it in person. It is the Bidder's responsibility to determine condition, age, genuineness, value or any other factor by way of their own knowledge, pictures, description, and emailing Donley Auctions with questions at donleyauctions@outlook.com. They will be happy to describe each item in detail and any pertinent information regarding the item.
Donley Auction Services will not be responsible for any errors or omissions in the description of the merchandise unless it is a material and intentional misrepresentation of the item itself. Bidder agrees that everything is sold as is and that they may not return any item they purchase.
Under no circumstances shall Bidder have any kind of claim against Donley Auction Services or anyone else if the Internet service fails to work correctly before or during the live or timed auction. Donley Auction Services will not be responsible for any missed bids from any source. Internet bidders who desire to make certain their bid is acknowledged should use the Proxibid feature and leave their maximum bid 24 hours before the auction begins. Donley Auction Services reserves the right to withdraw or re-catalog items in this auction.
