Mid-19th Century, Possibly Confederate, Unmarked Fighting Knife, with curved brass guard, 9-1/2'' high carbon steel double-edged blade, abbreviated sword-type crossguard, and square carriage-type fasteners appear to be of naval bronze, with hardwood scales. In cut-down brass and leather sword scabbard. Condition is good to very good with moderate carbon spotting and light surface pitting to blade. Grip with some darkening and shrinkage. Patination to brass appears original and not chemically induced. Remnants of leather scabbard are dry and show considerable shrinkage. Plastic inserts have been placed inside the scabbard for stabilization. Est.: $500-$750.
