(C) SCARCE GERMAN WORLD WAR I 1918 DATED MAUSER T-GEWEHR BOLT ACTION ANTI-TANK RIFLE.

Lot # 1060 (Sale Order: 18 of 379)

Due to the static nature of trench warfare during the First World War, the British (who were shortly followed by the French) rolled their first Mk IV tanks onto the battlefield in 1916, to try and break the stalemate between the Allied and Central Powers' lines. With standard caliber ammunition no longer being suitable for this new age of mechanized warfare, Mauser developed the T-Gewehr single shot bolt action rifle, which was chambered in 13.2x92mm TuF. This example bears the Mauser banner logo over "1918" over the chamber, with three crown over "K" arsenal proofs on the right side of the barrel shank and a German imperial eagle on the left-hand side. Imperial eagle and arsenal proof are also present on the bottom of the bolt handle and on the left side of the receiver ring. Matching numbers include the receiver, barrel shank, barrel, barrel band/bipod mount, trigger guard, trigger guard screw, bolt release, bolt handle, and bolt safety. Stock has been lightly sanded and is no longer retains it's serial number or proofs. Bipod shows pitting all around, with no discernable serial numbers or arsenal markings. Receiver, bolt, and barrel band/bipod mount are in-the-white, with the barrel, rear sight assembly, and trigger guard being blued. CONDITION: In-the-white components exhibit age-related discoloration all around and retain clear stampings and arsenal markings. Blued components retain good amounts of their arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning all around that show through to a pleasant brown patina. Very nice bright bore, exhibiting some small areas of pitting and some old cosmoline, and retains well-defined lands and grooves throughout. Stock shows some scattered dings and handling marks, with two cracks present on the bottom of the stock, below the bolt assembly. Bottom of buttstock shows a few small gouges. Grip shows a small area of loss on the right-hand side, but is still sturdy and serviceable. Bipod has been refinished, showing pitting beneath its finish, but being entirely serviceable. A very attractive example of scarce Mauser T-Gewehr bolt action anti-tank rifle that is over a century old. -MLW- Accessories: Bipod Barrel Length: 38 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: 13.2x92mm TuF FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Mauser Model: T-Gewehr Serial Number: 6134

A fine Virginia style flint lock Kentucky Rifle made in Shenandoah County, Virginia circa 1800 by Jacob Lindemud or Lindemood as sometimes spelled. Full octagon large cal...moreiber rifled barrel with rifle sights with silver plate having in script "J. Lindemud" signed on it. Barrel has been cut back an inch or two sometime in its lifetime. Flint lock with illegible markings controlled by double set triggers. Full curly maple stock with high decoration including incised carved pattern behind cheek and floral pattern in front. Lock and sideplate have beavertail patterns behind them with line tracings around mortises. Brass hardware including an intricate engraved patchbox with floral finial and 9 piercings, a brass comb piece and interesting touch hole pic plate under the cheekpiece. Gun also has 19 coin silver inlays including Federal Eagle on the cheek and an interesting round inlay in the center of the carving with what looks to be the face of a Native American. Sideplate has silver screw plates on top of brass. A fine decorative rifle by a seldom seen maker. CONDITION: Metal has aged patina with some surface discoloration and pitting in areas around the breech. Brass has golden untouched look to it with some surface blemishing. Lock is a period looking conversion with gun originally flint and converted back from percussion back to flint. Wood has had some restoration with piece added to forestock on left near muzzle and some repair above tailpipe on left. Lock mortise most likely refaced with wood added to replace burnout from percussion. Dark bore with functioning mechanics. A pleasing looking rifle of great importance. Pistol "B" has a few light chips at sidepanel, and a small area of rash on front strap. Actions work appropriately when cycled by hand, with exception given to set trigger on A, which needs attention, and bores that are smooth and clean. Accessories are very good with some age related staining the bullet mold and mainspring vise, ramrod is excellent with a few light storage marks, wrench also with a few minor marks. Flask is excellent, with a few minor marks and some loss of fire blue at top edges. Case is excellent, with some marks from handling and storage and some buildup on edges.
