Lot # 54 (Sale Order: 54 of 399)

Very fine specimen of the French Chauchat machine gun. (N) Historic German WW2 Early MP 43 Machine Gun With Capture Provenance & Helmet (CURIO & RELIC)

Lot # 55 (Sale Order: 55 of 399)

Relatively early manufactured MP43 manufactured by C.G. Haenel in 1943, with eagle over “37” proofs on underside of receiver as well as on left side of barrel. Other proof marks in evidence are “cos” (Merz werk), and “awt” (Wurttemburgische Matallwarefabrik). Bolt was manufactured and supplied by Mauser with factory applied “M” marking and gun serial number. Operating rod also provided by Mauser with eagle over “26” and “ar” proofmark. The bolt is of the early “1st” type without a factory cut-out near the extractor. Visible parts appear all matching SN throughout. One original Nazi marked “MP44” is included as well as an original magazine loading tool and 399 rounds of Privi-Partisan boxer primed ammunition. Also included is an original M42 helmet captured along with the gun along with original provenance substantiating where and when these items were captured. The American Soldier had his picture taken on the battlefield in 1944 posing next to the dispatched German soldier he bagged these items from, and this photo, as well as theater return document, original amnesty registration form and unit history, "Battle of Burp Gun Corner" is included with this lot. Also included is the unit history of the American Veteran. This gun is marked simply “MP43” on left side of receiver. Front sight hood not present. This model was highly effective and the first modern assault rifle produced in significant quantities. It incorporates desirable features such as being select-fire, firing from a closed bolt, taking an intermediate length cartridge (shorter than the standard 8mm) which was less bulky to carry, and yet could range out further and with greater effect than a pistol cartridge. The shorter cartridge allowed for a high 30 round magazine capacity. The German Sturmgewehr in this configuration was pretty much the standard throughout the wars conclusion, even as the model designation was soon changed to MP44, and later STG44. These were rifles which would serve in multiple roles and situations according to need, include having a scope for longer range and low-light conditions, and even with special attachments such as barrel chutes so they could be fired out of vehicle ports at adversaries, and fitted with some of the earliest experimental night vision (Vampire) equipment. A very versatile and effective combat firearm. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good to fine original finish throughout with scattered light pitting and brown patina, with more brown patina on the gas cylinder tube and buttstock heel and toe metal furnishings. Magazine finish is consistent with the gun. Helmet rates a solid 85% with no decals, with remnants of address lable where Soldier shipped it hm at crown. Address is faded away and undiscernible. Liner is in good condition with no drawstring present. Leather chin strap remnant on left ring. Buttstock wood has numerous dings and bruises but remain solid and serviceable. Rifles bore is extremely fine to near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. It sure is nice to see an untouched battlefield bring-back with impeccable and interesting provenance. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. Lot # 56 (Sale Order: 56 of 399)

Late war manufactured STG 44 machine as assembled by C.G. Haenel in 1945, with eagle over “37” proofs on underside of receiver as well as on left side of barrel. Other proof marks in evidence are “cos” (Merz-Werke), and “awt” (Wurttemburgische Matallwarefabrik). Bolt, operating rod are original and matching, as are all visible parts. The bolt is of the late style with factory cut-out near the extractor. . Four original Nazi marked magazines are included as well as an original leather sling. Original front sight hood present. This is the final version of this series of weapons with the lower profile 4 7/8” toe to heel butt which fit readily into vehicle racks for transport. The MP43, MP443, and STG 44 series was highly effective and the first modern assault rifle produced in significant quantities. It incorporates desirable features such as being select-fire, firing from a closed bolt, taking an intermediate length cartridge (shorter than the standard 8mm) which was less bulky to carry, and yet could range out further and with greater effect than a pistol cartridge. The final magazine has several areas of pitting and loss of finish, most notably on the left side. Buttstock wood near excellent. Bore is extremely fine to near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. Tough to find example of late war specimen. Three original 25 round magazines are included. Compensator at muzzle with "P" proof mark on top of barrel where it meets receiver. Case colored three position selector on right side of receiver. (N) Incredible and Historic Harrington and Richardson Experimental U.S. M-14 Machine Gun with Spare

Lot # 67 (Sale Order: 67 of 399)

Absolutely fantastic Harrington & Richardson M14 machine gun with “X” prefix serial number, beautiful wooden stock with brown composite handguard, and with spare original experimental short barrel, cylinder, and forend cap. Also included is an exceptionally rare experimental “swing-out” folding stock which is fitted with hardware for a forward pistol grip. Also included is a Beretta BM-59 stock fitted with a wooden handgrip. Also included is a copy of a letter written by a Veteran which attests that the folding stock with vertical pistol grip was indeed experimented with and tested by the U.S. Military. Consignor states this was a de-accessed museum gun from the H & R Museum. This very gun is featured in Frank Iammancio's book on the M14 rifle. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original gray non-reflective finish on metal parts with some slight loss of finish at the high edges of the flip-up buttplate, Magazine retains nearly all of it original finish and displays very well with this gun. Buttstock #1 with slotted hardware for detachable and adjustable vertical grip is extremely fine with smooth gray finish consistent with military finish of the period. Wood is extremely fine with some light handling marks with added hardware boss and recessed spaces on both sides for when shoulder loop is in folded position. Stock was inletted then filled forward of vertical grip hardware apparently incidental to finding an appropriate position for the hardward. Buttstock #2 is more familiar side swing-out shoulder loop with no provision on the stock for vertical grip. Butt has a catch which will allow shoulder piece to pivot upwards and to the rear, out-of-the-way when folder. Very interesting !! Hardware again is finished consistent with military finishes of the period. There is a semi-circular bruising to the left side of the forward portion of the stock above the sling swivel. All three stocks are strong and serviceable and display very well. Bore and bolt are near excellent. Bolt drawing number 7790186 and marked “HRT A16 BIH”. Mechanics are crisp. Even if one were to set aside the two folding stocks, this is about the nicest M-14 to come along for public offering in years !! An opportunity not to be missed by the U.S. Military rifle collector. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. Absolutely fantastic Harrington & Richardson M14 machine gun with “X” prefix serial number, beautiful wooden stock with brown composite handguard, and with spare original...more experimental short barrel, cylinder, and forend cap. Lot # 73 (Sale Order: 73 of 399)

Outstanding example of a Browning Model 1918 automatic rifle with "MODEL 1918" model designation on top of receiver with US flaming bomb proof mark. This gun has been retrofitted with a smooth, hard black composition buttstock with flip-up shoulder rest, uncheckered wooden forearm, carrying handle, bipod, third (and best) model gas port adjustment nut, and three position selector making it of 1918 A2 configuration. Barrel is devoid of markings. External receiver serial number is the only visible serial number. One 20 round magazine included.
