1965 XKE ROADSTER-3 OWNERS-56,456 INDICATED MILES

Lot # 14

VIN-1E10867 ENGINE-7E3508-9 BODY-4E2075 ORIG FINISH-DARK BLUE ORIGINAL INTERIOR-LT. BLUE BUILD DATE-31 MARCH 1965 Owners manual and service coupons found inside car...more and will convey. Spare tire/jack & Grease gun are located in trunk, NO TOOL KIT FOUND WITH CAR-HOWEVER WE HAVE SEVERAL JAGUAR TOOL KITS CONSIGNED FROM ANOTHER JAGUAR COLLECTOR AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN THE AUCTION. This vehicle is being offered to settle the Estate of T.C. Williams-a retired Federal Judge who resided in Virginia at the time of his death. The following information is deemed as accurate and has been provided in the form of documents and interviews with the family. The car was originally bought by Mr. L.A.B of Ohio-and latter California through a program British Leyland made available where one could tour the UK on ‘Holiday’ then have the car shipped back to the USA as a ‘used’ car avoiding some taxes and fees levied on ‘new ‘ cars. There are lots of documents supporting this purchase including original invoices, bill of lading documents and even the original canceled check. It appears Mr. L.A. B kept the car till some time around 1981 when it was sold to a Mr. W.S.L of Kentucky. Paperwork indicates Mr. W.S.L sold the car to it’s last owner-Mr. Williams around 1984. Judge Williams resided in California from the 80's till 2015 and was well known in the Packard, Jaguar and Early Ford V- 8 Club. We estimate he probably drove the car around 20K miles in his 35 years of ownership. The Williams family indicated to me that the car was essentially in the same condition today as received by Mr. Williams without him doing any extensive refurbishment. Mr. Williams did replace both bumpers. It appears to me that most of refinishing work as well as some mechanical work was probably done by the second owner in the early 80’s. That work would include: A bare metal respray- in the original color -was applied in either single stage enamel or lacquer, The engine bay and firewall was also painted leading me to believe the motor and transmission was probably out of the car when painted as newer mounts are under those components as well as the rear IRS mounts. The entire front end was freshened up with bushings and ball joints. The wiring harness looks newer that what would be the original unit. I would imagine the clutch and pressure plate was probably replaced at this time. The clutch action is very smooth-no jerking. The wire wheels are obviously newer units than those supplied with the car. The underside of the car is exceptionally clean with no rust or rot evident during my inspection in the floors, inner sills or bulkhead areas. Some touched up stone chips are evident on the outer rockers. I noted several miniscule dings/scratches- on rear deck lid ,hood & PS door-you really have to look hard. There is a stain & scratch on the hood which may respond to buffing. There is small area of several square inches with some crusty paint in the area of the rear fender under the bottom edge of the bumper. I have passed a magnet over all of these areas and the magnet holds fast. Upon starting the motor up I could hear some exhaust brackets rattle which need tightening up. Paint looks more like a car painted 5-6 years ago-not almost 40 years ago. Very presentable. Newer front brake calipers were installed within the last year. Note-Rear brake calipers-one or both have failed and need replacing before car can be driven safely. Family indicates car was not driven after last Fall when brake issues occurred. I can drive and move around our warehouse property with handbrake. Nice original interior-the seats and door panels are original. Rugs appear newer. Dash may be original. Top has been redone in tan canvas and has one small stain seen in photos. Wire wheels are obviously newer units. Tonneau cover is original. Motor has 155-160 lbs. compression across all cylinders. Holds 40 lbs. oil pressure at 1000 rpm and 55 lbs. at 1700 rpm. Plugs I pulled out were somewhat sooty but not oil fouled. Car never overheated even after sitting at idle for 30 minutes. Adult children tell me the car ran strong and shifted well before rear brake issues occurred last fall. They also had the carburetors overhauled last year . Lights, wipers, horn, radio and gauges all work at this time, Family used non ethanol gas in car as did their Father. In my opinion this is a very very strong #3 or even approaches a #2. It will certainly require rear brake service and should have a general "going over." Great ‘Survivor” car with original upholstery and almost 40 year old paint which could almost pass for original. Great car with a lot of documentation including the airline tickets to the U.K and canceled check for purchase. Questions-call Nick at 703-966-8422. Inspections by appointment. Will assist in buyers requiring shipping. Thanks for your interest
