AUTHENTICATION NOTES
1. In addition to our own research and findings from independent resources, this authentication is submitted, using photographs, images, documentation and information supplied by Mr. Busch and representatives.
2. The Subject Artwork is a crayon and ink drawing, and executed in the manner of Henry Moore. This evaluation of the Subject Artwork is made primarily from comparisons made to similar works of the period sold through the public venues, most notably by major auction houses of the United States and Europe, and private galleries. In addition, substantiation of our conclusions is supported through various professional texts and documents, written by authorities on the artist?s work.
3. The Subject Artwork was purchased direct from the artist by Mr. Busch in London in 1980 and an art rally at Hyde Park.
4. The Subject Artwork shows an interesting technique that we have observed only in the work of Henry Moore: that is the use of a blue ink as a compliment to the artist's warmer colored wax media. The Subject Artwork can be classified as a part of Henry Moore's notebooks, which have been documented in Ann Garrould's 'Henry Moore: Complete Drawings, Vol II' and further in Alan G. Wilkinson's 'The Drawings of Henry Moore'. These authors reveal that ?The mixed media composition demonstrates the key period of Henry Moore's experiment with wax crayons or similar waxy substances overlaid with a bluish India ink.? Comparable works from his notebook, such as the Subject Artwork, do appear in the marketplace.
5. The signature closely favors that of Henry Moore, is signed on top of dried pigments, a technique common of the artist's signatures. Comparable signatures and dates:
6. The ascetic qualities of the Subject Artwork are typical of the work of Henry Moore offered in the marketplace. Its value is reflected in comparison to similar works sold at auction. The closest comparable found for the Subject Artwork is as follows:
7. Explanation of the Appraisal Value:
In an open and competitive market economy, the works of Moore are well known and viable goods in the marketplace. The artist's works are sold regularly through established venues, and usually bring prices within or above forecast parameters and pre-sale estimates.
The Appraised Value is the actual value at which the Subject Artwork can be expected to sell from a typical retail or commercial art gallery located in a favorable market area for the artist. Galleries or dealers will certainly buy or consign for a lesser net amount, depending on their policies and projected profit or desired returns on investment. For marketing purposes, the actual cash proceeds anticipated from such a gallery for the Subject Artwork should be more or less 50-80 percent of this Appraised Value for an outright purchase. If placed at auction, the anticipated result would be comparable to such a gallery transaction or a bit more, less auction commissions and assorted fees. To a suitable private buyer in a direct sale, it should be anticipated that the full Appraised Value would be obtained.
Due to wide range of price results in the public venues, our evaluation of the Subject Artwork is based according to our findings and interpretation of results in the competitive auction marketplace. The actual cash value can be adjusted either upward or downward, according to the specific market and time of the offering.
CONCLUSIONS
The Subject Artwork is an original mixed media drawing by Henry Moore.
Appraised Value: $40,000 ? 50,000 USD
The purchase of the Subject Artwork from the artist is compelling for authenticity. Other factors include the style as well as the technique and overall color and feel of the drawing and the favorable comparison of the artist's signature. We carefully considered the quality of the drawing, along with testimony of the owner and his relationship with the artist. All points of this consideration favor for authentication of the Subject Artwork.

In addition, substantiation of our conclusions is supported through the discovery of historical and technical factors, as well as supporting evidence found in various professional texts by authorities on the artist?s work.

3. The signature on the Subject Artwork compares favorably with the typical signature on the work of JMW Turner. Furthermore, it is noted that the initials are the same as the artist's typical pattern of signing, as seen in other paintings by the artist. Variations on ?JMW Turner?, using the initials ?JMWT? and ?JMT?, ?JM? & etc follow patterns as per this discussion: A more thorough discussion on the subject of Turner's hidden signatures and initials can be found online in a discussion on the work of researcher Peter Paul Bir..., at: http://jmwturner.ca/JWT%20JMW%20Turner%20signature.htm 4. Sara Kinch, art expert who wrote a certificate for the Subject Artwork, stated in her document of October 26, 2009, that the painting "is probably by" JMW Turner. Her opinion is based on style and subject matter, "similar to cataloged paintings created by the artist". She dates the painting to the early 1830's, and assessed a value of $35 - 45,000 USD for the Subject Artwork. An artwork that is attributed to an artist typically can be evaluated to a percentage of no more than 5 - 10% of the value of an artwork that is roughly similar in overall competence and desirability, and has been researched and documented as authentic by the ascribed artist.

4. Provenance: Estate sale of Theresa Fleming in Blandford Dorset, UK; purchased from the estate representative, Portia Fine Arts, London. The provenance is not sufficient to trace the Subject Artwork back to the artist himself. Nor can it be found in any of the texts or resources available to this writer.

5. There are no public records found to substantiate any sale or exhibition by a recognized auction house or museum, other than Portia Fine Arts.

6. Our conclusions are supported by factors and characteristics that can typically be found in the work of Turner, namely that the artist frequently painted in a bold and quick manner with a sure hand. This work exhibits much of the confident methods that would define the artist's work throughout his life.

7. Stylistically, the artist went through many changes over his life time, from the realistic to the abstract. He ultimately became known for his large and dramatic scenes of epic events of the history of Great Britain, in a forceful and nearly abstract style. Along the way, Turner's work showed the pains of change, as he struggled with his own personal vision. Many studies were repeated of the same scene in preparation for a greater work, each exploring a new idea in style. Such paintings as the Subject Artwork often were done in series to fully explore an idea or concept, thus leading to multiple images of the same scene or idea. The placement of the main subject at the center of the composition with bolder colors defines much of the artist's work. This is typical of a devise used by Turner to call a viewer's attention to the focus of the concept.

8. The Subject Artwork was compared with other work

AUTHENTICATION NOTES
1. In addition to our own research and findings from independent resources, this authentication is submitted, using images and information obtained from he owner.
2. The Subject Artwork is a watercolor and ink on paper, executed in the style and manner of Lyonel Feininger. This evaluation of the Subject Artwork is made primarily from comparisons made to similar works sold through the public venues, most notably by major auction houses of the United States and Europe, and private galleries. In addition, substantiation of our conclusions is supported through various professional texts and documents, written by authorities on the artist?s work as well as the opinions obtained from art dealers and museum representatives specializing in the artist and his contemporaries.
3. Feininger signed his work in a variety of ways, but consistently similar in form. The signature on the Subject Artwork compares favorably with the artist's signatures:
f another opinion, Edward J. Morgan, of Morgan Co, Fine Art Appraisers, wrote a letter of authenticity for the Subject Artwork, dated May 22, 2004. In the letter, Mr. Morgan dated the drawing circa 1943 ? 1948. APPRAISAL NOTES Valuation of the Subject Artwork is based on the current market as of the date of this writing.
8. Explanation of the Appraisal Value: In an open and competitive market economy, the works of Lyonel Feininger are well known and viable goods in the marketplace. For marketing purposes, the actual cash proceeds anticipated from such a gallery for the Subject Artwork should be more or less 50-80 percent of this Appraised Value for an outright purchase or consignment. If placed at auction, the anticipated result would be comparable to such a gallery transaction or a bit more. To a suitable private buyer in a direct sale, it should be anticipated that the full Appraised Value would be obtained. NOTE: Value of frame or other additions is not considered in this evaluation
9. The value assessed for the Subject Artwork is made on the assumption of true authorship by Lyonel Feininger. The empirical evidence is sufficiently compelling to establish a solid value. CONCLUSIONS The Subject Artwork is a watercolor and ink drawing by Lyonel Feininger Estimated marketplace value... $ 8,000 - 10,000 USD The empirical evidence of the Subject Artwork compared to the general work of the artist is sufficiently compelling to declare authorship to Lyonel Feininger. The opinion of other dealers and art professionals involved with the artist's work support our conclusions. CERTIFICATION This authentication and appraisal is submitted for Dennis Busch.
