Navajo Kingman Turquoise Coral Squash S.C. LARGE

This is an outstanding and large sterling silver squash blossom necklace set with rare Kingman turquoise and red branch coral squash from master Navajo silversmith artist, Shawn Cayatino. This necklace shows excellent traditional Navajo construction with heavy examples of sterling silver beads. The necklace features 8 beautiful concho blossoms with tooled and stamped decoration and a total of 8 oval cut Kingman turquoise cabochons set into the center of the blossoms. The central pendant, called a naga, shows a heavy sterling silver naga design with 7 total rough cut Kingman turquoise cabochons. The sterling silver beads are spaced by rough cut red branch coral beads with good textures and great coloration. The necklace is finished with sterling silver aglets with 'S' clamp clasp and ring. The artist’s hallmark is shown on the back of the naga pendant with a 'sterling' mark below the hallmark. The condition of this necklace is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurement of this squash blossom is 31" from clasp to clasp and the pendant measures 4" x 3" x 1/2". The necklace weighs 223.5g.

Crow Parfleche Beaded Child's Vest c. 1890

This is an outstanding Crow Native American Indian parfleche polychrome painted vest with beadwork, circa 1890. The piece is crafted from parfleche envelope remnants deco...morerated with polychrome mineral pigment paints and beautiful geometric and floral glass trade seed beadwork. The beads are all original 19th Century examples in colors of faceted semi-transparent green, semi-transparent greasy yellow, sky padre light blue, red, semi-transparent red, cobalt, greasy yellow, and salmon/orange. The vest is sewn with sinew and trade thread and shows two rawhide pockets on the front and a red ochre/ocher painted border. Inside the vest is a polychrome pigment painted remnant design and symbols of tipis (teepee), horseback warriors, and more. The front shows the vine-like floral, arrowhead-like design, which flows over the shoulders on the back down to two round medallions with a five-point star and circle at the center. This is truly a fantastic early piece in well-preserved, slightly stiff condition. Provenance: From a large American Indian and Cowboy collection outside of Billings, Montana; it was purchased from an old South Dakota collection. When closed and flat, the vest measures 13.5" by 13.5".

This is an outstanding and rare Northwest Coast Haida-Tlingit Frog Effigy Totem tobacco mortar pottery bowl dating from the 19th Century. Provenance: Purchased from DuMou...morechelles from Detroit, MI for over $2,000 and found to be an authentic early example by one of the most notable private collectors of American Indian artifacts in Billings, Montana. The piece is notably similar to the example sold by Bonhams Auction as a Haida Northwest Coast frog effigy tobacco mortar bowl, which brought $65,000 in Los Angeles, CA. The bowl is hand crafted from pottery and shows a recognizable frog effigy totem at one end with face pointed away from the bowl and Haida effigy totem man at the other end facing inward. The bowl itself has a common elongated elliptical shape with pointed ends, sometimes referred to as marque, seen on other tobacco mortar and grease bowls from the Haida. The piece is further decorated on the outsides with rich Haida Northwest Coast totem geometric patterns. This is truly a unique and rare example, very uncommonly seen in pottery form. Measures overall 10.25”L by 6.5”W by 4.75”H.

This is a nice hide and trade fabric flat bag or mirror/ration card bag from the Cheyenne Native American Indians, dating to the early 1900’s. The piece shows a calico fl...moreoral trade cloth lining with heavy cloth structure and Indian tanned hide backing with Indian tanned hide fringe, ties, and top strap. The entire front and flap are covered in early period correct glass trade seed beads in a traditional geometric Cheyenne pattern. The beadwork includes colors of chalk white, semi-transparent amber, brown, and dark brown. The front shows a heavy, large, Venetian type 1800’s wound glass trade bead and hide fringe with rolled tin jingle cone ends. The piece is in good condition, with little to no bead loss and striking pattern. Measures overall 19.5” L (including the top strap), with the beaded bag itself being 8.5” x 6”.

This is a phenomenal authentic, original Edgar Alwin Payne (1883-1947) oil on board called "In the Misty Alps." This oil on board painting features a beautiful scene of numerous peaks of the Swiss Alps. The artist’s signature is shown in the bottom left hand corner of the painting. Edgar Payne was born in Washburn, Missouri and quickly became one of the foremost plein-air landscape painters of California in the early 1900's. He was self-taught, except for a brief period at the Art Institute of Chicago. In the 1923 Paris Salon, Payne won an Honorable Mention, which was significant recognition because of the numerous pieces of artwork that were exhibited. The condition of this oil painting on board is good, with natural wear to the frame and shown as exterior wear; there is a slight orange marking believed to be the only discrepancy. The measurements of this piece framed are 18 3/4" x 21 3/4" and the visible art measures 11 3/4" x 14 3/4". Great Lakes Woodlands Beadwork Sampler Board c1900

This is an excellent and rare beadwork sampler board from the Great Lakes Woodlands Native American Indians dating to early 1900’s. The board has a hard backing art board...more or cardboard, which is wrapped in a leather or hide. The beadwork is all loom beaded in a geometric pattern sewn with trade thread and done in glass trade seed beads in colors of Cheyenne pink, semi-transparent rose, butterscotch yellow, black, greasy blue, and semi-transparent green. A sampler board is very uncommon and is a representation of the artist’s total abilities, a showcasing. The piece shows slight bead loss and some fraying of the fringes. Provenance: Found to be an authentic original by an expert in Billings, Montana and from an astounding collection of American Indian beadwork and artifacts from Sheridan, Montana. Measures 15 3/8” by 10 3/8”.

This is an excellent pair of authentic circa 1870-1880’s beaded Buffalo hide and hard soled moccasins from the Sioux Native American Indians of South Dakota. Provenance: ...moreFrom the ex-collection of Dale Harrison out of Cincinnati, Ohio; these were collected from the previous family owner from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The set shows a Great American Bison Buffalo Indian tanned hide construction with hard soled parfleche rawhide soles with the top and sides / back of the foot being covered in period correct 1800’s glass trade seed cen beads in a geometric pattern with plaid like pattern on the top in greasy green and red white hearts having a border around the entire foot with background of chalk white and triangle tipi like and cross patterns in red white hearts greasy sky blue, cobalt and greasy yellow. The hide is slightly stiff from age and has the original hide ankle with hide tongue being held together with what appears to be the original hide tie straps intact. The set is stuffed with old newspaper by a previous collector and adorned with a five-point star vintage calico clothe. Provenance: From Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and the ex-collection of Dale Harrison, Cincinnati, Ohio. Each measures 9 ½ inches long along the sole by 3 ½ inches wide at the foot.

Featured in this lot is this sterling silver and 14k gold overlay, multi stone necklace from Navajo artists Tommy and Rose Singer. This signed necklace features a string of orange spiny oyster, turquoise, tiger’s eye gemstones, as well as a few other stones. The necklace is tipped with marked sterling aglet tips. The orange spiny oyster beads are separated by discoidal turquoise and silver beads. The signed rectangular pieces carry a traditional Navajo design and are stamped "T&R Singer". Tommy Singer was a Navajo silversmith who specialized in chip-inlay jewelry. He died on May 31, 2014. After his death, his wife, Rose, continued to create jewelry using designs Singer created prior to his passing. Tommy and Rose did come up with a new hallmark before he passed, which is “T&R Singer”. Any item marked T&R Singer was made after Tommy’s passing. The condition of this necklace is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurement of this necklace from clasp to clasp is 28 1/2". The collective weight of this necklace is 152.7g.

This is a thin, large side notch poi...morent with flattened cross section. The blade is excurvate with a leaf shape. This point has parallel notches low on the blade, almost at the base. The shoulders are horizontal. The stem expands to a point on the notch and then contracts, ending at a point. The construction of this point is of hornstone flint material. The condition of this point is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this point are 5 3/8" x 1 1/4" x 1/4".

Johann Carl Bodmer (1809-1893) a Swiss-French printmaker, etcher, lithographer, zinc engraver, draughtsman, painter, illustrator and hunter. Karl Bodmer was known in literature and paintings, as a Swiss and French citizen, his name was recorded as Johann Karl Bodmer and Jean-Charles Bodmer, respectively. The condition of this hand colored litho is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good well preserved condition. The measurements of this framed lithograph is 28 1/4" x 31" and the visible art measures 14 1/4" x 17 1/2". The condition of this saddle is good overall, with slight wear to the saddle strings; the right front saddle strings broken. The measurements of this salesman sample are 8 1/4" x 6 3/4" x 5 1/4".
