Lot # 0

Thank you for participating in our Auction!
Before attempting to bid on any items, please ensure the card on file with Proxibid is the one you want to use to pay for the item(s) you are bidding on, is up to date and has the adequate funds to make that payment.

Please read the Payment Instructions, Shipping Instructions and Special Terms for this auction before registering to bid. Registering to bid in this auction is an act of agreement to all instructions and terms attached to this auction.

This is an online auction in which you, the bidder, are determining the price. Consequently, all sales are final. Understand that the final determination of the authenticity and condition of the items listed are up to the participants of the auction. The auction house performs its own due diligence for the purposes of accurate descriptions, but due to the high volume of items there are things that can be missed or overlooked. In person inspection is permitted at our premises during business hours, until 48 hours before the first lot closes in the auction. All items are sold for the purpose of being collection pieces, and should be inspected by a professional before engaging in the original intended use.

If you make a bid in error, need to update your tax exempt status, or are having trouble rendering payment you must contact Proxibid Support (833-616-7370).

Payment

You will see two charges for this auction. The first is for the items you have won and hammer fees. The second is for shipping costs. Taxes and processing fees are calculated and collected by ATG, Proxibid's payment processor, not Old Steel Historical Firearms. The buyer is responsible for paying all costs shown on the invoice, including any updates such as shipping costs.

Invoices are sent out on the next business day after the auction has closed. The default card on file with Proxibid will be automatically charged 24 hours after your invoice is sent.

We only accept credit cards and ACH as a form of payment. Please note that ACH transactions take longer to post and may delay the time at which we can ship your order. We do not accept check, money order, wire transfer, cash or pay pal.

Failure to pay within 7 days after the invoice send date will result in forfeiture of any won items and a dispute filed with Proxibid. If you wish to pay for the items to lift the dispute, you must contact Old Steel Historical Firearms during normal business hours within 30 days of the original invoice date to arrange payment. A $100 fee will be added for delinquent payments. No disputes outside of 30 days from the original invoice date will be lifted by Old Steel Historical Firearms.

Shipping

The buyer is responsible for shipping costs. All of our packages are insured and we use all major shipping companies as applicable.

Once your order is processed and a shipping label is created, a request for shipping payment will be sent. We calculate and charge shipping separately in order to keep shipping costs as low as possible for individuals who win our auctions.

  • Orders containing firearms will not be processed until a valid FFL is sent to auctions@oldsteelguns.com.

  • Orders containing antiques (MFG before 1898) and black powder guns will not be processed until proper identification (I.E: a driver's license or government issued photo ID) is sent to auctions@oldsteelguns.com.

If proper documentation (Valid FFL to ship to for firearms, Photo ID for antiques) is not provided within 30 days of the auction closing you will be refunded for the item(s) less a 20% restocking fee and they will be relisted. Firearms and Antiques will require an adult signature on delivery, which will be reflected in shipping costs.

We appreciate your patience when it comes to shipping times. We are a small team, and are processing orders from multiple auctions as well as other channels, often dealing with hundreds of customer orders. We do not give estimates for shipping times. We will contact you if any further action is needed to process your order.

Local Pickup

We welcome and encourage local pickup if you are in the area. Please contact us at auctions@oldsteelguns.com with a day that you intend to pick up your winnings. If we do not hear from you within 14 days after we send your initial invoice, we will ship your items to the shipping address associated with your account.

J.P. Lower Colt 1873 Revolver - Frontier Six - .44-40 - with Holster & Colt Letter - Antique

Lot # 313

Impress your friends with this Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army, which was made in 1878. This is a P frame Single Action Army chambered in .44-40, and includes documentation  indicating that it was shipped to J.P. Lower & Sons in Denver, Colorado in 1878. These barrels for the Frontier during this time were acid etched. The etched panel is faded as is normal but is still visible and legible. Etchings by Colt during this time were roughly ten to twelve thousandths of an inch deep, thus making the fading common on these revolvers. The serial number for this model of revolver is one of the earliest serial ranges observed for the etching. The barrel shows the standard 6 groove 6 lands configuration. The frame was color case hardened and though faded still shows its colors well on the left side and the upper portion of the right side. "COLT's PT. F A MFG Co HARTFORD CT USA" is the stamped address and still highly visible and legible.

This particular example is of specific interest due to its destination of shipment from the Colt factory. J.P. Lower was one of the premier gunsmiths in the Denver, Colorado area and ran a prominent gun store. In this time period the Colt factory was producing firearms for the US military, which bore precedence for manufacturing. This is one of three Frontier Six Shooter 1873s of this time period that was sent to a private shop, making this a true frontier pistol. It is even more noteworthy this revolver has stayed in  Colorado after all this time.

The frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and grip frame back strap are all serial matching. The loading gate shows a mismatched serial number. At one point, a rather inexpert attempt at checkering the grip was made. Mechanically, this antique is in wonderful condition. The hammer is delightfully satisfying to actuate and the fitment is very tight- a testament to Colt's renowned quality, even after 145 years. This is not one to pass up on! Bid today!

Special Order Remington Model 95 Double Derringer - Possible Copy - .41 RF - Antique

Lot # 327

Take a look at this interesting piece! This .41 rimfire pistol bears all of the hallmarks and mechanisms of a Remington Model 95 double derringer, with a few glaring differences. First and foremost, the barrels are 6 inches long. This pistol also features a full trigger guard and trigger. It also has a free-spinning lanyard loop on the heel of the grip. It has the address of a second model of the Remington 95, which were produced between 1870 and 1888. The address in question comes with some punctuation missing and one suspicious character: "E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION. N.Y ELLIOTS PATENT DEC 12M [sic] 1865". It is worth noting that this is a single line address rather than a two line address. It is also worth noting that the address on a normal Model 95 is done with serif font, and this address is sans serif. These discrepancies may be explained in that the longer barrels provided better real estate for a single line address, and different stamps needed to be used. The "M" being used instead of a "TH" in the date is particularly suspicious. The patent date in question is only affiliated with the Model 95 in this context.

If this pistol is indeed a copy, as these certain features and marks would indicate, it is magnificently done. It captures the familiar mechanism and manual of arms of a Model 95, with some sensible modifications - a shorter locking lever with a taller thumb catch and an extractor mechanism that is designed to extract when the barrels are fully opened. Solid craftsmanship is also evident in the scrollwork engraving tastefully etched onto the frame, barrels and trigger guard as well as the fine checkered walnut grips. This pistol is mechanically operational, and retains the feature of firing the top and bottom barrel in sequence when the hammer is cocked and fired, as with the Model 95. A good majority of the nickel plating is still present, and is replaced with an elegant patina where it has thinned. The barrel hinge is uncracked. We were unable to find another example of this- it may be one of a kind! Bid today, and pick up the mysteries yet to be uncovered!

Remington-Beals 1st Model Pocket Revolver - .31 Caliber - Antique

Lot # 328

Up For Auction is an antique Remington-Beals 1st Model pocket revolver with a .31 caliber chambering. The finish has worn away and some light black powder pitting can be observed near the breech of the barrel, and the portion of the top strap over the cylinder nipples. The action cycles as it should with an occasional slip of the hand on the cylinder ratchet, due to wear over time. The bore still retains its rifling and shows typical black powder pitting.

Firearms engineer Fordyce Beals (1807-1870) wound up working for E. Remington & Sons for a time before moving to competitor Whitneyville Armory in 1854. Two years later he returned to Remington and developed the Remington-Beals 1st Model pocket revolver. A 5 shot revolver that appeared in mid 1856. This design allowed Remington to enter the civilian market but was more prevalent as a revolver that was used by both sides of the US Civil War.

Make: Remington
Model: 1st Model Beals
Serial # - Firearms: NVSN
Caliber: .31 cal
Barrel Length: 3"
Other: c. 1857 - 1858

LeFaucheux Pinfire Revolver 7mm PF Engraved - Antique

Lot # 330

Up For Auction is a beautiful LeFaucheux chambered for the 7mm Pinfire round. The exterior of the revolver shows a handsome patina and lovely engraving. The grips are in great condition with the checkering showing very little wear toward the edges. All components move and operate well. The hammer does show signs of a wearing engagement with the hammer push off causing it to drop with little force. The bore appears rifling free with some patina present. The Belgian Liege mark dates this revolver between 1810 and 1853. Overall this is a great antique to add to your collection!

The NRA Museum website describes this platform as such: The Lefaucheux name is best known to students of history for the revolver of American Civil War-era fame, but the contributions of this father and son duo to firearms and cartridge design go well beyond this single distinction. In 1832, French gunsmith Casimir Lefaucheux patented a pinfire cartridge which featured a cardboard body with a brass base that expanded under pressure when the cartridge was fired, thus creating an effective gas seal. In addition to paving the way for breech-loading arms, this discovery made possible more powerful ammunition in smaller calibers than that typically seen up to that time. Lefaucheux later designed a breech-loading pepperbox pistol that took advantage of his cartridge design, and followed this with a breech-loading sporting rifle that featured drop-down barrels.
