1980 Mercedes 350 SLC

Lot # 026 (Sale Order: 26 of 165)

Serious Mercedes Benz enthusiasts should take note of this extremely well kept 1980 Mercedes Benz 350SLC coupe. Fully loaded with all of the options of the time, this Me...morercedes was built for the European Market only and imported in 1985 by a successful industrialist and collector of extremely rare fine collector cars. In order to import this vehicle, the owner used a once in a lifetime EPA dispensation to bring this vehicle into the United States. Known for their collection of vintage Rolls Royce Silver Ghosts and Stanley steam vehicles, this Mercedes 350SLC has been maintained to the highest degree by an extremely meticulous automotive collector. Under the hood this 350SLC is powered by a 3.5 litre 8 cylinder engine with an automatic transmission. Every aspect of this vehicle works and functions as it should and is in extremely good condition. The vehicle has been repainted one time, but as mentioned above, these fine collectors had extremely high standards and this older repaint still shows exceptionally well. With just over 125,000 original miles, this well- kept European only model Mercedes 350SLC is an extremely rare find. Sold with a registration.

1951 MG TD

Lot # 028 (Sale Order: 28 of 165)

This 1951 MG TD, chassis # TD9643, comes from the widely recognized “Cobb Collection” and is being offered for sale at No Reserve. Dick and Dotty Cobb of Gardiner, Maine ...moredeveloped an enthusiastic love for the MG marque. Their love evolved into a life long passion and led to the creation of one of the finest and respected MG collections in the United States. It was their wish that their collection come to live at the Owls Head Transportation Museum for the benefit of all to enjoy. This vehicle is one of a select few that are being offered from the collection in order to help maintain the wonderful examples of MGs that will remain. Until recently, this TD has sat for an extensive period of time in storage or on static display, having not run under its own power until the early 2000’s. Owls Head volunteers undertook an analysis check over of all of the systems to return this vehicle to a running condition. Work performed on this vehicles included inspecting an oil check and service, new coolant, new battery, points adjustment, new valve stems on the rims, and a new fuel sender. The 4-cylinder engine is paired with a 4speed manual transmission and was found to run and shift well. The number on the engine matches the number on the vehicle data plate. Owls Head volunteers and staff have driven this vehicle on museum property as part of their sorting out and inspection process. While museum staff has done a great amount of work in resurrecting this classic MG, further attention may be needed to bring this extremely solid MG back to its full driving potential. Sold with a title.

1929 Ford Model A Custom

Lot # 030 (Sale Order: 30 of 165)

Classic custom car enthusiasts should take note of this true 1950’s built Ford Model A V8. It was built in California and later owned by Danny McCue of Santa Barbara and ...morecame to Maine in the 1980’s. The present owner purchased it at a local estate auction in 2005 and sold to a friend in Pennsylvania. When the friend sold off his collection the present owner bought it back. The paperwork showing the California ownership background went missing while the car was in PA. It now has a clean PA title. Up front this Model A custom is powered by a 59A series Ford flathead V-8 and backed with a 1939 style transmission. The 1942-48 era engine has Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads and Edelbrock two carb intake manifold with a pair of Stromberg 97 carburetors. Chromed tube exhaust headers lead to a chrome plated dual exhaust system. The tailpipes show some deterioration but are believed to be original to the 1950’s build. A modified Lincoln Zephyr distributor with a dual coil provides ignition. The frame and body are original Ford components with no rust or rust repair. There are no reproduction body parts on this car. The 60+ year old paint on the chassis shows some deterioration but the white pin-striping on the maroon paint is still bright. Hydraulic brakes are 40-48 Ford style, steering box is F-1 Ford, wheels are 15” postwar Ford with Coker Whitewalls, 8.00×15 on the rear and 6.70×15 on front. The front axle has a 4” drop and the back axle is Model A. A new six-volt battery is mounted in the rear with new battery cables and the starter has been rebuilt. Sealed beam headlights have pre-1956 style bulbs. The original Spartan horn has a chrome-plated trumpet. Fender welting is bright finish against the all-black bodywork. There are some nicks, chips and scratches in the paint, as on would expect of 60+ year old lacquer. The top dates from the fifties build and is reasonably good with some staining. Red “Naugahyde “ upholstery is in very good condition. It has had a recent full service and tune up. The engine runs well, starts easily although it can be a bit fussy when cold as no chokes are fitted to the carbs…Southern California car. Even without a fan the engine does not overheat in traffic. The car will run down the road happily at 60.

1986 Mazda RX-7

Lot # 033 (Sale Order: 33 of 165)

Redesigned for 1986, the Mazda RX-7 grew up a bit, becoming more of a sophisticated GT sports car. The styling sported subtly flared fenders along with the oh-so-’80s pop...more-up headlights. It also packed more power from the rotary engine, now up to 142 horses which, thanks to the RX-7’s light weight (under 2,800 pounds) provided peppy acceleration to go along with its athletic handling. This RX-7 is the high end GXL trim level, with alloy wheels, A/C, a power sunroof and a plush interior with power windows, tilt wheel, cruise control and an AM/FM/Cassette audio system with equalizer. The all original body is in excellent shape with the original red paint still sporting a nice even gloss. The original alloy wheels are in good shape as well and the newer tires have plenty of tread. Inside, the seats, dash, door panels, headliner and carpet look great, and are further testament to the low mileage and excellent care the car has received. On the road, the RX-7 runs great and handles and stops as a sports car should. Indeed, it must be driven to be believed as the rotary engine is super smooth right up to redline as is the automatic transmission, and the car has a light on its tires feel when running through a twisty section of blacktop.

New aluminum wheels, tires and a free flow dual exhaust was added. This truck has been well maintained and has held up well since this work was performed.
