UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter indicating this revolver was shipped on May 31, 1898 to Simmons Hardware Company with a total of 20 guns in shipment. US marked flap holster. CONDITION: 70% lightly faded blue showing carry wear w/ spots of corrosion. Grip panels have chips at toe & heel. Right panel is broken & repaired above attachment screw. Type III (1910-1926, S# 105051-468096) w/out mag. safety or bbl. bushing. Floral engraving w/ some punch dot backgrounds including grip straps, trigger guard & dust cover; marked "R. Dilling" behind left grip. MAGS: very good 8 rd. w/ engraving on base. CONDITION: near excellent metal finish as reblued after engraving w/ all markings well preserved. PISTOL. Cal. 25 ACP. S# 401437. Bbl. 2". Mfg. 1935 (1908-1946) w/ nickel finish & authentic mother of pearl grips pencil numbered to pistol. MAGS: very good factory marked 6 rd. w/ faint peeling finish near edges of base plate. CONDITION: very good appearance w/ some peeling finish at front of slide leaving bright in the white metal. Left side of frame has three 1/4" diameter spots of medium oxidation w/ 2 of 3 being covered by grip. Grips have almost satin surface appearance but w/ no chips or cracks & nice presentation. VERY RARE COLT GOVERNMENT MODEL COCKING INDICATOR

Lot # 1041 (Sale Order: 34 of 657)      

PROTOTYPE SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. S# C113293. This pistol was once part of the Colt Factory Collection having inventory #695. It was later donated to Connecticut State Library in 1950s & deaccessioned in late 1970s. Museum card #695 notes that it is a "Commercial Experimental". Truly historical, one of a kind Colt pistol. Further supporting its experimental nature, it is w/out the VP trigger guard inspection proof having only a "G" stamped on frame by disconnector & "3" on top of rail near feed ramp plus "5" stamped on underside of slide at center just behind breech face. Unusual aspect is left side of slide has rampant Colt at midpoint plus "COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE .45" to its left w/ no other markings such as patent dates. On slide at top edge of left just forward of cocking grooves is keyhole shaped screw attached piece having spring loaded component that protrudes when cartridge is at breech face serving as loaded chamber indicator. Bbl. 5" blued w/ port area in the white. Area in front of legs marked w/ what appears to be left half of Gothic H (rnd. surface likely limited full mark) plus slightly below & to right, Gothic S; viewed w/ breech up. Mfg. 1919 w/ wide spur hammer, flat mainspring housing having lanyard loop, double diamond checkered walnut grips plus checkered slide stop & wide tab thumb safety. Long blued steel trigger, short tang grip safety & blunt legs on spring guide. MAGS: very good to excellent 7 rd. 2 tone having pinned base. Blued portion near excellent w/ upper unfinished portion having gray tone w/ in the white spots. Center of follower, aligned with bore axis, has cartridge formed wear line. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of 16 March 1995 Richard Ellis evaluation, he comments further state it has 99% of its original factory finish & is original in all respects; information statement plus photocopy of Colt #695 museum card (in multiple list) giving pertinent info & hand written note stating "SOLD" plus "Connecticut Library Museum". CONDITION: near excellent overall appearance having very faint thinning at high points on front of slide & at transition points of slide's sides to its rnd. top. Polished throat & feed ramp. Near excellent bore & extremely minimal function wear on bbl. plus rails of slide & frame. Very faint frame mark from improper slide stop installation. (21-2963/NW). CURIO. $10,000-15,000.

Cal. 45 ACP. S# C43414. Bbl. 5". Mfg. May 29, 1916 per 2015 Colt letter that further states no other records available. Left side of frame at front has added Cyrillic markings (English Order) to resemble Russian contract model. Right side of slide has standard commercial markings. Left side has per Wilson’s reference book correct patent date markings but slightly unusual in that rampant Colt is at rear of slide rather than between lettering; much like period military markings. Colt name & address is more like style having C of Colts to left of H in Hartford rather than reverse. Bbl. marked in front of legs w/ “P” & faint larger “K”. Top of frame marked “T” & “S” by disconnector. Left side of trigger guard w/ “VP” proof plus “D” near mag. release; right side blank. All period correct features including double diamond walnut grips. MAGS: 1 very good cleaned 2 tone 7 rd. w/ lanyard loop. Blued follower w/ unused appearance. 1/4" Spot of oxidation near top of spine. Bright portion has appearance of buffing; especially notable at latch slot. Top rear of feed lips appear reshaped. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 2015 dated factory letter stating there are no records for this gun. CONDITION: generally very good appearance w/ reasonable use & holster wear. Noticeable spotty finish loss on front strap as if by acidic hands; similar appearance on grip safety to lesser degree & even better appearing mainspring housing. Noticeable even use wear on bbl. exterior w/ fair even light pitting throughout bore. Very good left grip w/ only slight mid-point diamond wear. Darker right grip having more pronounced uniform diamond top wear plus sm. chip in top diamond near screw. Cal. 45 ACP. S# C74120. Bbl. 5"; correct is Colt Type 3 or 4 which have "P" & "H" markings on top (no traces). Left leg has horizontal "9" reading muzzle down. Right leg has very faint "P". In front of legs solidly stamped sm. "P". Per Harrison's reference book, closest approx. of bbl. would be Remington - UMC Type 15 as it's the only listed bbl. w/ "P" on right leg. Mfg. 1916 as part of 51,000 Russian contract from S# C23000-C89000 w/ Cyrillic writing on left side of dust cover that translates to "English Order". Depth of stamping & style of letters appears original. Correct style slide stop & safety tab having checkering w/ milled undercut. Hammer is Colt Type A used on earliest 1911's up to S# 8900 rather than Type C. Top of frame w/ "G" & "S" inspector marks; correct w/out military inspection but w/ VP proof on trigger guard. All other features appear correct for model. MAGS: very good unmarked 2 tone 7 rd. CONDITION: good plus overall appearance retaining nearly all of commercial style refinish w/ noticeable polishing & traces of prior pitting. All markings clear & readable. Colt style double diamond checkered walnut grips w/ 14 rows of checkering; left grip is after market replacement; right appears original & both grips appear very good. Unfinished firing pin retainer. Correct slide stop & thumb safety w/out undercuts & w/ checkering. Later period Type E variation 1 hammer as used on Colts rather than proper variation 2. Correct FJA inspector marks, crossed cannons proof & Type 2 arched mainspring housing w/ lanyard loop. Balance of frame components are period correct. Colt slide of 1918 / 1919 vintage as indicated by left side markings plus narrow semi circular front sight blade along w/ Type B flat top U notch rear sight; no arsenal rework marks. Clear lucite replacement grips w/ vintage pin up image under each; likely page from man's magazine. MAGS: 1 good blued 7 rd. w/ light pitting throughout. Base marked "COLT / 45 AUTO".
