COMMERCIAL FN HI POWER SEMI AUTO PISTOL.

Lot # 2040 (Sale Order: 40 of 753)

Cal. 9mm Luger. S# E08784. Internet research indicates originally British contract that went unfulfilled. Internet comments & speculation explain lack of US import mark due to GI's stationed in Europe. Fixed sight slide having thumb print & internal extractor. Matching numbered frame, slide & bbl. along w/ corresponding commercial proofs including star over "M". Half boxed "O" proof on hammer & left side of trigger guard. Smooth uncheckered orange backed hardwood grips w/ faint outline of crest &/or shield on top of right. STEYR MODEL 1893 MILITARY TEST EXPERIMENTAL

Lot # 2045 (Sale Order: 45 of 753)

GAS SEAL REVOLVER WITH S# 59. Cal. 8mm. Exceedingly rare Steyr M1893 gas seal revolver, 100 made in the early 1890s for the Austrian military trial of 1897. Arguably the ...moremost beautiful military revolver ever made, w/ a strawed cyl., rust blued bbl. & frame, plus a fire blued front sight. Although there were several variations w/in this limited production, all incorporated a gas seal mechanism in which the cyl. face was pressed against the forcing cone upon hammer fall. This eliminated the pressure drop from escaping gases & was an important development that laid the groundwork for the smaller, more commonly encountered, Nagant M1895. According to Moetz & Schuy "Von Ursprung der Selbstladepistole", a biblical reference of early Austrian pistols, pg 440, all 100 revolvers were sent to the Austrian military to be tested against the Salvator Dormus, Mannlicher M1894 & Roth Theodorovic. At least one of the Steyr M1893's (#71) was marked w/ the Austrian "Wn/97" acceptance mark. This matching example has a 5 5/8” half round / half oct. bbl. w/ a pinned, half moon, front sight & fixed rear. S# 59 is on the bbl. (left side), cyl. (under extractor), back side of extractor & frame. Sideplate is marked “WAFFENFABRIK / STEYR”. Strawed crane assembly (including ejector rod & latch), trigger, hammer assembly, cyl. stop, firing pin guide, screws, pins & cyl. marked w/ an Eagle/N on the front face, reflecting later testing in Germany. Balance of the revolver is rust blued w/ checkered walnut panels & swiveling lanyard ring. CONDITION: near excellent overall, w/ 95-97% bright original rust blue & comparable conditioned strawed parts. Lg. chip at top left of forcing cone. Near excellent bore & manual functioning. Sm. dent at top of front sight. Slight high point wear throughout w/ light scratches on each side of frame at rear. Light to moderate handling marks on grips & some occasional spots of peppery oxidation on back strap. One of the rarest, most impressive Steyr handguns, w/ military pedigree & outstanding condition. (01-15448). ANTIQUE. $15,000-25,000.

Cal. 5.45x18mm. S# PB1500.
