This rare and beautifully preserved Silver Service badge was awarded for 40 years of faithful employment with the Prussian State Railway under the German Empire. The piece features a finely detailed imperial crown above a laurel wreath. The reverse bears the maker’s mark “JOH.WAGNER&SOHN (800 BERLIN.W.”), a respected firm in Berlin known for producing high-quality Imperial decorations. Issued between 1905 and 1918, the badge represents the final years of the Kaiserreich before the collapse of the monarchy at the end of World War I. This example retains excellent detail and would have been a proud token of long-standing civil service. The Prussian State Railway (Preußische Staatseisenbahnen) was the dominant rail network in the German Empire, and its workforce played a vital role in industrial development, military mobilization, and the overall modernization of Germany in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Long-service awards like this were given to honor the dedication and reliability of railway personnel; engineers, conductors, and administrators alike, who upheld the backbone of Prussia’s transport and infrastructure system. The badge was instituted in 1905 and was awarded until the end of WW1 and the fall of the Monarchy.
