Car culture changed in the early 1960’......s when Americans started thinking less about chrome, fins, wood and soft suspensions and took notice of horsepower, torque and...more handling. Soon, street and strip racing filled the minds of young drivers across America and dealerships rolled muscle cars out the door as fast as the factories could make them. The Super Sport name had become synonymous with performance on Chevys, and in 1966 it was possible to have the power and great styling in a mid-sized Chevelle. This Super Sport is equipped with a 396 cid, 360HP V8 engine that is married to a four-speed manual transmission. Before the professional nut and bolt restoration, this car was an excellent rust free example. The 325 horsepower version was standard, but it was possible to order your car with 360 or 375 horsepower. Three-Speed manual transmission were standard, but a four-speed or a powerglide automatic could be had for an extra price.

Coming to The Raleigh Classic Auction from a prominent West Coast collection, this 1965 GTO is a great example of Pontiac’......s early muscle. It embodies the right char...moreacteristics for an enjoyable investment car: limited production, excellent workmanship during restoration and a strong potential to appreciate in value. Of the 75,352 GTOs built in 1965, only 11,311 (15%) were convertibles and far fewer of those were ordered like this with the desirable four-speed and Tri-Power intake. Top up or down, this is one sharp looking GTO, with all the little things like glass, trim, emblems and controls done exceptionally well. The panel gaps are fantastic and the paintwork matches the overall high level of detail. The fresh interior and power top can only be described as first rate. The new owner will enjoy power steering and brakes and one of the nicest passenger compartments we’......ve seen. All of the chrome has been highly detailed and presents in fine condition and the Rally wheels and tires are excellent. The ’......65 GTO remains a landmark car that combines fun, performance and great collectability and will always represent the genesis of the muscle car era. Today you can buy one of the best, knowing that a great GTO is always a solid investment.
