1974 SAAB Sonett III

Lot # 101 (Sale Order: 15 of 27)

Our RMSC Project Lisa (named for previous owner) is a ‘74 SAAB Sonett III, number 188 of the 2,500 built in 1974. This is the second refurbishment, done by the Rocky Mountain Saab Club; see work The original “restoration” was by Chips Barry of Denver, but the car was later vandalized after being sold.
Body is mostly stock except for the aftermarket sun roof and the Porsche Guards Red paint color. Overall, the paint is in great shape. The interior is as original as we could get it. The carpets are OEM pieces that were taken from another Sonett III. The door panels were rebuilt and all other interior trim was replaced with used OEM pieces. The seats have been re-upholstered by Stan Dave (Saab expert and former owner of Bolder Auto Interior.) The door and rear hatch seals were all replaced with new ones. New driving lights, incl. buckets were added and wired to the factory switch. To avoid future rust the inside body floor pans were treated with POR-15 before installing the carpets and seats. Many hours of work were required to install the proper heater controls, OEM radio & speaker, plus other items which were missing or non-functional. The outside of the floor pan/chassis was cleaned, wire-brushed, under-coated and sealed, not touching the previous sheet-metal repair work. Door lock button on the RH door is missing. The exhaust system is a new MSS system from the “Y-pipe” back. Other work includes a replacement RF brake caliper & new pads on both sides. The rear brakes are in good shape. The car is equipped with Bilstein shocks. The engine received an oil change and tune-up including new plug wires. The Weber carb was changed back to a rebuilt FoMoCo unit. It might be better to go back to the Weber carb (included). The engine runs strong although there is a recent oil leak at the balance-shaft seal. See the car run and drive on YouTube ...more

1992 SAAB 900S NA

Lot # 102 (Sale Order: 16 of 27)

A very nice 3dr, Non-Turbo, 5-speed, Noctume Blue Metallic with light Gray Leather, Mags, Sunroof, A/C, 188K miles. This vehicle will make a remarkable transportation vehicle or an extremely reliable vehicle for entry level drivers. Great running and has great curb appeal, an extremely clean car.  Cleanest things about this car is the trunk area and engine area. Appears to be a Colorado car as all the bolts under the hood are bright and no sign of corrosion like the eastern cars we see. Vehicle is extremely clean for the age. This vehicle was acquired with a defective automatic transmission and it has become a club project for the Rocky Mountain Saab Club of Colorado. As a club, we replaced the transmission with a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission. The transmission was rebuilt at Mile Hi Body Shop, Inc. Clutch was replaced with an almost new used clutch with new t/o bearing. Clutch hydraulics rebuilt. Engine has been resealed and is oil tight. Compression on engine is 190/190/185/190; excellent! New voltage regulator. Brakes OK, tires like new, muffler sound, shocks good. New headliner, windshield good. Dash has the typical cracks, carpet very clean. This vehicle has been repainted on the hood and Lt quarter panel. Inspection shows no signs of metal damage when looking inside the inner panels. Appears hood and quarter were repainted because of sand damage which happens here in Colorado. No evidence of any body damage. No rust. Lt headlight has water stains on the inner reflector. Cruise does not work; probably needs a cruise box like all 91-93 900’s need. Seats need to be sewn and have seat covers on them. The new owner of this vehicle will not be disappointed as to the quality of this vehicle. Even though the speedo has high mileage, what has been done to this vehicle will insure many more pleasurable miles can be placed on this vehicle. Congratulations to the new owner from the Rocky Mountain Saab Club of Colorado. ...more

1969 Saab 96 V4 Vintage Racer

Lot # 103 (Sale Order: 17 of 27)

This is a well prepared vintage racer that is a real blast to drive around town ..... so the owner is (not so secretly) hoping that it will not sell. The car is equipped with a 1700 CC motor with 3/4 race cam, weber 34ICH, and a competition clutch hooked to the 4-spd with a SAAB factory Sport & Rally “Special 2” close ratio transmission. Exhaust is MSS type with a SuperTrapp tip. It goes pretty good, and sounds great. Rally preparation includes full roll cage, battery shut off, fuel cell, and racing 5-pt harness for driver as well as some other neat touches. Limited racing history including the 2006 vintage races at Gimli, Manitoba. The Weber carb was re-jetted for altitude here in Colorado, and the car is street legal with current emissions test. Lights and wipers work; no horn; Bosch Driving lamps are borrowed and DO NOT go with the car. Paint looks pretty good at 20 feet but it does have some small bumps and bruises. Car includes one set of soccerballs with tires, and one set of steel wheels with tires. See car in action on YouTube > search "Elkmtnman" channel ...more

1991 SAAB 900 SPG

Lot # 104 (Sale Order: 18 of 27)

An original Talladega Red SPG; one of only 40 built with this color in the last year of SPG production. Colorado 2nd-owner car that runs and drives great, with nearly new tires and extra wheels with new Hakka 1 snows. Engine and turbo never been touched in the 256,000 well maintained, mostly highway, miles. Rebuilt 5-spd manual transmission and recent clutch job. Complete service and maintenance records. Leather and interior in very good condition. Only body part with non-original paint is the hood, which was whacked with a piece of lumber falling off a truck on I-70, and subsequently repainted. Everything works except SRS light stays lit. Small door and hatch dings can be repaired with paintless dent removal. Dash rug hides the few small cracks in the original dash. New information...... while driving to Copper Mountain for the auction today - Thursday 8/13, the driver noticed that one of the motor mounts is going bad. Just wanted to disclose that info to any bidders. A 2-minute video of this car running and driving on Colorado roads June 2009 is available on YouTube by searching for the "elkmtnman" channel and looking at the auction car videos. ...more

WOW!! 35,754 miles on the working odometer!! 1978 Saab 99 Turbo. 1978 was the first and only production year of this model. Original everything – but newer & better. Rebuilt engine – new piston rings and bearings and a completely rebuilt 4 speed manual transmission. The headliner has been re-upholstered, and the interior is in nice condition – just enough still to do on the interior to make it “yours”. A good detail has brought the original maroon paint back to life, but there is a little chipped paint on the driver’s door. Beautiful original Inca Wheels. This little goer gets 28 mpg, and everything works. Colorado car with very little rust – has black shiny bumpers, and the original 99-only completely spoiler (Not Cracked)!! One owner until we bought it a while ago to restore for the convention. Clear Colorado title with current emissions. See video on Youtube under elkmtnman. 1969 Saab Sonett V4

Lot # 106 (Sale Order: 20 of 27)

This is a fun-to-drive little ’69 Sonett V4, the last year offered. It’s number 1279 of the 1868 built from ’67 to ’69. Originally a California car from the Bay area with a lot of TSD rally history, judging from all the dash plaques. The car is fairly quick with the 2bbl Weber carb. and dual exhausts. A few body modifications are evident, including a hood bulge to provide air cleaner clearance. The chrome rear “nerf bar” bumper was apparently a fairly common addition in CA. The hood scoop and “elephant ears” are painted black. Overall, the paint has a lot of imperfections, crazing and chips, but looks good at 20 feet. Interior is restored quite nicely except for missing the cloth headliner. The carpet is original that was taken from another Sonett V4 decades ago and preserved. To avoid future rust the body floor pans were treated with POR-15 before installing the new carpets and seats. The seats have been totally re-upholstered by Stan (the Saab expert) of Bolder Auto Interior, and Autoweave in Denver. This is the Sonett V4 featured in the Going to Copper Mountain/SOC09 video and also pictured in the Copper Mountain slideshows. You can see this Sonett in action on YouTube by searching "Elkmtnman" channel ...more

1966 SAAB 96 Monte Carlo 850

Lot # 108 (Sale Order: 22 of 27)

This nice MC850 is from the last full year of SAAB 3-cylinder 2-stroke production (before SAAB went to V-4 engines in 1967) and the last of the much sought-after higher horsepower models inspired by SAAB’s major wins at Monte Carlo. The car has been a Colorado “native” since it started as a dealer demo at SAAB Denver on South Broadway. The body shell is a solid rust-free specimen that had a few dents and dings when it was repaired and re-painted in the original color Polar White, with clearcoat, by Mile Hi Body Shop in 1999. The engine was redone with rebuilt crank and new rings, and assembled by Bud Clark at J&B Automotive in Orange, CA. Exhaust system front & rear mufflers replaced with new units from Rolf Jensen in Sweden. Some of interior is original but seats were re-done, as well as new headliner, replacement later style non-ribbed dash pad, and incorrect carpets. Grab strap fabric is missing. Car has a set of 4 Shelby GT wheels with Hakka M&S as well as the original black steel wheels with hubcaps and marginal trim rings. Owner provides a lot of original documents: shop manual, 1966 sales brochure, 1966 press kit, etc with the car. You can view this Monte Carlo 850 in action on YouTube... or search the videos by going to the "elkmtnman" channel and looking at the auction cars. ...more

1986 SAAB 900T Convertible

Lot # 109 (Sale Order: 23 of 27)

1986 Saab Turbo Convertible 5 speed, with 35, 821 original miles. ( I plan to drive to Copper Mountain, about 1200 miles.) VIN YS3AD75L067032963             The car was purchased new from P&W motors, Pittsburgh, in July of 1986 and owned by the same person until I purchased it in 2008. It was the 3rd or 4th car for this couple all its life.  It is absolutely original in every respect, (except the radio was Saab upgraded to replace the troublesome “flat face” model.) It also has the dual outlet “sport exhaust.”  I have all the service records, all the books and the window sticker.  The tools have never been out of the kit, spare never on the ground. The hard plastic boot is in its bag.  The paint, top and interior are nearly perfect.   It has a new Interstate battery and almost new Michelin Tires.                           I have lots more photos for interested parties. Video of this amazing convertible can be found on YouTube.com at the elkmtnman channel ...more

1988 SAAB 900T SiS Conv

Lot # 110 (Sale Order: 24 of 27)

Rare "Springtime in Sweden" (SiS) convertible was only offered in 1988, all in black, with the SPG -like body treatment. Each US dealer was allocated one SiS to sell. The owner chose this auction venue because he is looking for another Saab enthusiast to sell to, to ensure continued care for the car, because he cannot maintain 2 cars. The owner bought the SiS from the son (who was his manager) of the original owner, in California, where the car had spent several years. Odo indicates 102287, but there are 30K more as it was broken. Owner says this car is in good shape and new convertible top was put on a year or two ago. He says this special model has a few small issues that need a bit of TLC as documented below. In some cases he didn't want to replace things because it is a special model. The owner says you can see the status of car overall is good from the photos, but the dash has some cracks, some small pieces coming off- nothing too bad though. The cloth on the doors is starting to peel off. Sticker on steering wheel that says Saab popped off, but can be glued back. Seats are in good shape - had the driver's seat (bottom part) replaced. The turn signal lever doesn't return when you turn left, but you can hold it, or it could be fixed easily. No rust as far as he knows. AC doesn't work, but heat does. Cruise control works. Grill is cracked a bit from a minor ding and a little piece missing. The fog lights need to be replaced (ran into a high sidewalk once). The shop said the engine is in good shape. Owner says this car is a fantastic ride on a sunny day with the top down and has been a joy to own. Added 8/10: The prospective buyer should be aware that a couple of years ago this car had a very minor accident when it bumped another car and chipped a tiny piece off the grill and made a very small dent in the bumper, unnoticable unless you really look close. This Saab 900T is in NJ and will not be transported to Colorado for the Auction. ...more

1976 Saab 99 EMS

Lot # 111 (Sale Order: 25 of 27)

This 99 EMS (VIN 99762029539) was purchased by Chuck Andrews from the original owner on 7/26/96 in Crystal, MN. Also coming into Chuck’s possession at that time was any part that had ever been replaced on the car with dates and miles tagged on them, all records since purchase including gas receipts, fuel grade and fuel mileage. Minnesota non-vanity license plates, 099-EMS, had been purchased by the original owner by driving to a southeastern Minnesota town where that series was being sold. Mileage on the date of Chuck’s purchase was 55,127. Since that time, we have performed general maintenance services, mostly related to old age, like a new clutch master cylinder, various exhaust parts, front brakes, etc. The car has appeared at a couple of Saab Owner’s Conventions, local car shows, parades, etc. over the last 13+ years. Today the odometer stands at 56,151. This car is as close to new condition, right down to the original cocoa floor mats, as we have seen. The only detraction that we know of, is a headliner that will eventually have to be redone due to the usual letting loose of the fabric over time. All paint is original, spare tire, jack and tools, etc. are all original and present. Owner’s manual, sales literature, original window sticker, copy of original sales receipt, sales brochures etc. are all present. The driving experience on this car today is like it was when it was new! This 1976 Saab 99 EMS is located in Minnesota and will not be transported to Copper Mountain, Colorado for the Auction.
