Ford Cortina Mk. III 2000E

Lot # 102 (Sale Order: 2 of 194)

In the late 1960s, Ford set about developing thethird-generation Cortina, the Mk. III, which would be produced inhigher volumes than previous, following the recent merger of Fordof Britain and Ford of Germany into the modern-day Ford of Europe. The 2000E reverted to the classy treatment offered by the 1600E andlater Mk. IV and V Ghia models instead of the faux wood-grain trimoffered by the GXL. The 2000E was also available as an estateversion. Like many other Cortinas, Mk. III's were prone to rust andas a result it is estimated only about 1000 now survive. Because oftheir rarity and the fact that they are now seen as an iconic carof the mid-70s, prices for Mk. III's are rising steadily.Having been stored for a number of years, this Cortina 2000E isfitted with manual transmission. Originally registered on6th October 1976 this rare example has only had twoowners, although it will require some work to put her in aroadworthy condition. However, the car is totally complete andappears to be largely original. The engine started immediately whenrequested and was one of the quietest Pinto engines we have everheard. Supplied with a V5 registration document and seven previousMoT test certificates indicating the mileage to be correct(although not warranted), this Cortina Mk. III 2000E is an idealproject and will result in a modern classic that many may reminisceabout.

Having covered just 64,000 miles and with a hood invery good condition, this example would be perfect to drive home ona balmy June evening. Isetta Velam

Lot # 104 (Sale Order: 4 of 194)

In 1954, Velam acquired a licence from Iso to manufacture a carbased on the Isetta. Since Iso had sold the body making equipmentto BMW, Velam developed their own body but used the original Isoengine. The Velam body was rounder and more egg-like than Iso'sIsetta and was known by the French as the 'yoghurt pot'. Instead ofa chassis like the Italian and German versions, there was asub-frame bolted to the body at the rear which held the rear tyres, engine and transmission. The front suspension was bolted to thefront of the body. The front door was opened by a push buttoninstead of a handle and the speedometer was mounted in the centreof the steering wheel. Velam started production of the car in 1955at the Old Talbot Factory at Suresnes, France and the car wasintroduced at the 1955 Paris Car Show. This Isetta Velam is an unfinished project although the bodyappears to be in sound condition and everything seems to be presentin order to finish the car off. The engine is in place and theparts not currently fitted will be supplied with the car. IsettaVelams' are very rare with only 7,115 manufactured from June 1955through to January 1958. It is not known how many have survived andthis is the first one we have ever seen. A great opportunity toacquire a micro-car that will create even more interest thanusual.

Renault Avantime 'Privilege'

Lot # 105 (Sale Order: 5 of 194)

Renault wowed the crowds and the motoring press with their 2+2Coupe GT MPV concept when they revealed their Matra inspiredstyling exercise at the Paris Motor Show in 1998. The concept byPatrick Le Quement was boldly taken into production largelyunchanged. Featuring design ahead of its time the Avantime (Frenchword "Avant" meaning "ahead" with English word "time") was packedfull of luxuries, safety features and advanced engineering.Highlights included unique double-hinged 'kinematic' pillarlessdoors allowing easy access to the front and rear seats (even whentightly parked), the worlds largest opening glass sunroof at thetime (a full 1m/sq of opening roof) featuring strengthenedheat-reflecting glass, theatre seating (rear positioned higher thanthe front), galvanised steel chassis with aluminium upperstructure, cavernous 530 litre boot, xenon headlights, a 'grandair' button which simultaneously opened all pillarless windows andsunroof, and finally a choice of powerful engines (3.0 V6 or 2.0turbo) giving a grand tourer driving style and claimed lowest0-62mph of 8.6 seconds. Delays in the launch prompted sudden competition from within whenRenault themselves elected to put their concept Vel Satis modelinto production. Just ten months after Avantime production startedin 2001, Matra announced that they would cease all vehiclemanufacturing, with much of the facilities going on to be sold toPininfarina in 2003.  Renault elected not to continue theAvantime themselves. Across 18 months only 4,557 vehicles werebuilt, half of those sold in France. BBC's Top Gear positioned the Renault Avantime at 'Sub Zero' onthe 'Cool Wall' stating it was cooler even than the Aston MartinVanquish and "the coolest car money can buy". Despite this just 450cars sold in the UK, of which nearly half were optioned as 3.0Privilege models. Our car is a 2002 3.0 Privilege Automatic in 'Steppe' Silver/Greywith silver aluminium roof rails and full black leather upholstery.Optioned with SatNav, this is a striking top of the range exampleof Renaults futuristic MPV Coupe. The car is production number 210in the sequence of cars built for the UK market and comes with aletter from Renault UK, a certificate and a gift box containing anAvantime concept print and Renault concept cars book. Owned by thepresent registered keeper for the past six years the car isreported as delivering good power, a pleasing exhaust note and abright and rewarding driving experience. The aluminium roof railsare prone on the Avantime to oxidisation blisters but the rails onthis car remain in excellent condition. The remote control handsetthat operates the concert music system is present and correct andthe car is also fitted with a good quality LPG alternative fuelsystem with discreet twin tanks. It is intended that the car willbe presented at the sale with a fresh 12 months MoTtest certificate. The Avantime combines bold styling with exceptional comfort and ahost of highly attractive features that would appeal to most carenthusiasts. When you overlay the GT flare and performance withsuch limited production numbers, we believe that the Avantimepossesses all of the hallmarks of a highly collectableclassic. ?

Mercedes-Benz 450SL

Introducedearly in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the280SL. The body and chassis of the third generation SL wasconsiderably heavier and longer than its predecessor but stillshowed a resemblance to them. The 3.5 litre, V8 engine underwentslight modifications to those being used on other models and thegear-shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of the car.The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a veryrespectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. Mercedes-Benz 280SL Roadster

Lot # 112 (Sale Order: 12 of 194)

The Mercedes-Benz SL (Sport Leicht) has been in production since1954 with perhaps the most influential model being the W113 Pagodaof 1963. This second generation evolved from the 230SL to 250SL,finally becoming the 280SL. The W113 was replaced by the W107 in1971 and, as the engines became larger, the bodywork and weight ofthe cars also increased - as often happens in mid-life!  TheSL improved through the years with technical innovation but stillmanaged to keep its fundamental character and identity of anup-market, quality sports car.  Its reputation went fromstrength to strength and it was rare to see an episode of Dallas orDynasty in the 1980's without an SL making a star appearance. Thegenius soft-top mechanism which folds down out of sight under apanel ahead of the boot lid gave the car a beautifully sleek, uncluttered appearance.Offered with beautiful and almost unmarked red coachwork, complemented by a near flawless biscuit trim, this great 280SLRoadster has covered just over 60,000 miles from new and hasbenefitted from a wealth of recent work which we are told includesa gearbox re-build and re-adjustment of the timing giving us anexample that is ready for the summer and hopefully hours ofmotoring enjoyment. Accompanied by a valid MoT test certificate, ahistory file including recent services and a wealth of old MoT testcertificates verifying the mileage and original owner's manual, this plucky 280 is a pleasure to drive with its lighter nose andshould, in our opinion, see significant investment potential foryears to come with other similar models on offer at double theprice.

Although the launch was accompanied by the slogan 'NewCortina is more Cortina', the car, at 16 feet long, wasfractionally shorter than before. Amonth later, in August, the 1300 received a new crossflow cylinderhead design making it more efficient, while a crossflow 1600replaced the 1500. The Cortina was Britain's most popular new carin 1967, achieving the goal that Ford had been trying to achievesince it set out to create the original Cortina back in 1962.Period reviews were favourable concerning both the styling andperformance. Again, two-door and four-door saloons were offeredwith base, Deluxe, Super, GT and, later, 1600E trims available. This very original Ford Cortina 1600 Super four-door saloon hashad four owners and covered 68,000 miles from new; less than 15,000miles since 1987. Alfa Romeo GTV6

Lot # 114 (Sale Order: 14 of 194)

The Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo Veloce (GTV), designed by EnricoFumia at Pininfarina, was planned to re-establish the sporty coupétradition of Alfa Romeo for the 1990s. The GTV's name placed it asthe successor to the long-discontinued Alfetta GTV coupé and with atypical Italian design many journalists commented that Alfa hadimproved the overall build quality considerably, coming very closeto equalling its German rivals.  The car was indeed favorablyreceived by the written press with the Alfa Romeo GTV listed as #29in Jeremy Clarkson's 'Top 100 Cars' from 2001. Offering the fabulous and much desired 3.0 litre, V6 Alfa Romeoengine, this black with black leather example has covered just76,000 miles and importantly, has had a service history thatincludes a cam belt change.  A full VOSA MoT test history ispresent as is the current MoT test certificate valid until May2016. Messerschmitt KR200

Lot # 116 (Sale Order: 16 of 194)

The Messerschmitt KR200 is a three-wheeled bubble car designedby the aircraft engineer, Fritz Fend and produced in the factory ofthe German manufacturer from 1955 to 1964. Messerschmitt, temporarily not allowed to manufacture aircrafts, had turned itsresources to producing other commodities and, in 1952, Fendapproached Messerschmitt with the idea of manufacturing small motorvehicles. The first of Fend's vehicles to enter production was theKR175, the title 'Kabinenroller' means 'scooter with cabin'. Thenarrow body and corresponding low frontal area was achieved withtandem seating which also allowed the body to taper like anaircraft fuselage; the fuel consumption of the car was reported tobe 87mpg with a top speed of 65mph - if you were brave enough.Production of the KR200 was heavily reduced in 1962 and ceased in1964 following consistent drops in sales for a number of years. TheKR200 ran on a 191cc Fichtel & Sachs air-cooled, singlecylinder, two-stroke engine positioned in front of the rear wheel. The engine had two sets of contact points and, to reverse, theengine was stopped, then restarted, going backwards.Originally registered on 21st April 1959, this KR200presents in excellent condition and, whilst we did not test drivethe vehicle, we are advised she starts and runs well. Clearly, thisMesserschmitt has been loved and cherished and, as such, is one ofthe best KR200s we have seen for some time. The cream paintwork isvirtually unmarked, as is the black interior. These quirky vehicleshave a strong following and one in such good condition as this willcertainly create interest. Supplied with a V5 registrationdocument.

The entertainment system -radio function, navigation, television and telecommunications, as well as the automotivecomputer bus system- was identical to the BMW 5-Series and couldalso be upgraded with the newest BMW technologies. This Range Rover Vogue TDV8, 3.6 litre engine presented in greywith black leather interior has had just two owners from new withthe current owner since 2011. It is offered with a service historyand described as being supplied 'with all the usual refinements'including a tow bar. This example has a new MoT test certificateand is an extremely competent, yet refined form of transport forthe new potential owner. We are all familiar with Range Rovers and they are somewhat afavourite amongst the classic community for their towing ability, whilst still allowing the driver to travel in luxury and this, in amuch sought after colour combination, is noexception.?

Austin Morris Mini 1000

Lot # 120 (Sale Order: 20 of 194)

The original Mini is considered a British icon of the 1960s withits space-saving, front-wheel drive layout, allowing 80% of thecar's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage and was votedthe second most influential car of the 20th century, behind theFord Model T. The Mini Mk I had three major UK updates; the Mk. II,the Clubman and the Mk. III. Within these were a series ofvariations including an estate car, a pick-up and a van. Initially,Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names as the AustinSeven and Morris Mini Minor until Mini became a marque in its ownright in 1969.This remarkably well kept Mini 1000 automatic has been cared forthroughout its life, covering a mere 21,800 miles from new. Theoriginal owner, a Mrs. B. Elliot, purchased the car in June 1979for £3,139.59 from Kennings Motor Distributors of Derby. The carhad been undersealed and Cadillac protected by the factory beforebeing finished in works colours, Russet Brown, which has helped tokeep it in such condition to this day. The interior trim andheadlining are in fabulous order and the paintwork is certainly acredit to the car, as is the chrome detailing. However, she isn'tjust about good looks; indeed on a drive to and from Brooklands onMini day in March, this car didn't miss a beat.  Accompanyingthis vehicle is an impressive history file, including many old MoTCertificates (some warranting mileage) as well as a wealth ofservicing and repair bills and even the original bill of sale andreceipts. Original handbook and owner's workshop manual can also befound along with a current MoT test certificate valid until January2016. Having been garaged and looked after by its three ladyowners, this mini is a true collector's example with a supportinghistory to cement its place as a true classic. With a keenestimate, why not raise your hand for a real slice of Britishmotoring history…?

Thisincluded four door saloons with two door coupés and cabrioletsbeing produced from 1961 to 1971.This lefthand drive example, presented in lovely blue paintworkwith black leather interior, was originally purchased in Rome byDario Lenzini, the son of famous Lazio Football club owner, UmburtoLenzini, from Mercedes-Benz Agent F. Bornigia in June 1962 and soldfor a mere 6,091.000 Lira. Registered under Lenzini's name on theplate ROMA 542235, the current owner bought the car from him in thesummer of 1980 when he transferred it to his work in London and hadit registered under diplomatic status with the plate number188D172. Sunbeam Alpine Mk. V Restoration Project

Lot # 122 (Sale Order: 22 of 194)

The Sunbeam Alpine is a sporty two-seat open car launched in1953 as the first vehicle from Sunbeam-Talbot to bear the Sunbeamname alone since the 1935 takeover of Sunbeam and Talbot by theRootes Group. Ken Howes and Jeff Crompton were tasked with doing acomplete redesign of the Alpine in 1956 with the goal of producinga dedicated sports car aimed principally at the US market. KenHowes contributed some 80% of the overall design work and, throughout its production cycle, the Alpine was manufactured infour subsequent revisions through to 1968. The Series V Alpine wasproduced from 1965 through to 1968, the final version having a newfive-bearing 1725cc engine with twin Zenith-Strombergsemi-downdraught carburettors producing 93bhp.The previous owner of this Alpine restoration project bought thecar from Hounslow, West London some 10 years ago and during hisownership spent considerable time and money on its preparation. This included a full bare-metal re-spray to its current conditionas well as many other repairs and parts to the tune, reportedly, ofover £8,000. The current owner has also contributed extensively toits restoration including new door cards, front and rear seats (allnew) in excellent condition.  He was also unhappy with thestandard Sunbeam replacement floor-pans and so had new, heavy duty, items made, under-sealing as he went providing a more long-termfuture for the car. He also sourced many new items from a Sunbeam supplier in theMidlands and all parts for this car are either new (as in the hood)or original and in good order. The car drove into the garage priorto striping and so the engine and drive-train are thought to be 'upand running' although some light re-commissioning may be required. The majority of the hard work has been taken care of and so, givena Philips screwdriver and some patience, many of the remainingparts can simply be re-affixed. An extremely accessible lightrestoration project that could easily be ready for thissummer...

Jaguar Mk. II Saloon (2.4 litre)

Lot # 123 (Sale Order: 23 of 194)

The Jaguar Mk. II was a medium size saloon built from 1959 to1969 as a successor to the 2.4 and 3.4 litre models which weremanufactured between 1957 and 1959. It was a handsome, powerful andgood handling saloon which was offered with a choice of threesix-cylinder twin cam engines; 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre. After the appreciation of the MK.I, Jaguar's successor was wellreceived making a good car even better.  Similar inappearance, but with a bigger glass area, it boasted a wider trackto improve road holding together with minor front suspensionchanges to reduce body roll and all-round disc rather than drumbrakes. Raced by all the top drivers of the day including GrahamHill, Roy Salvadori and Michael Parkes, the Mk. II has scoredvictories throughout saloon car races in the sixties and was alsoraced across Europe in the Tour De France and Monte Carlorally.Originally registered on 16th February 1968, thisJaguar, 2.4 litre presents in largely original condition. The greencoachwork shows little sign of corrosion and the grey leather trimhas a lovely patina. Mechanically everything appears in order withthe engine starting 'on the button' and we are advised she driveswith no known faults. With cars as original as this, clearly thereare a few issues that any new owner may wish to address; however,we would describe NJN 348F as a perfectly useable example. Suppliedwith a collection of MoT test certificates dating back to March1984 when the mileage was 46,826, this Jaguar has travelled 3,324miles in 31 years. The current MoT test certificate is valid until4th March 2016 and is accompanied by a V5 Registrationdocument. Jaguar Mk. II's have a strong following and a manualtransmission example with overdrive such as this will appeal toenthusiasts and collectors alike.

Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet

Lot # 124 (Sale Order: 24 of 194)

That Jaguar's XJS will become a 'bona fide' classic is beyonddoubt. Launched in 1975, its twenty one year production life was atestimony to the excellence of its basic design. With all roundindependent, coil sprung suspension, power assisted rack and pinionsteering and disc brakes, its' excellent ride/handling balance wasjustly praised by the contemporary motoring press. The XJS'ssuperlative 5.3 litre developed some 295bhp in later fuel injectedform and when allied to automatic transmission gave authoritative150mph performance. The targa element of the car was oftenpreferred over the straight convertible as it added more torsionalrigidity and was therefore more enjoyable to drive than the laterconvertible.Originally registered on 1st November 1985, this XJ-S V12Cabriolet has been owned by the current vendor for the last 12years. Benefitting from a rear seat conversion, this cabriolet islargely in its original condition, including the starfish alloywheels. Finished in red, with magnolia leather trim and a blackroof, C914TBD is supplied with a V5 registration document, currentMoT test certificate and some service history. Good XJ-S's arebecoming increasingly difficult to find; rare models such as thiscabriolet, in good order, will always have a strongfollowing.?

Triumph Stag

Lot # 125 (Sale Order: 25 of 194)

This fantastic Manual example has been meticulously cared for byits three previous custodians since new and is offered in RoyalBlue with matching hood and hard top complemented by biscuitleather trim.  We would certainly say that this is amongst thebest we have seen as an original car. Under the first owner, Mr.Barley of Woodford Green, the car was serviced annually by Lamb'sof Woodford Green up to 1982 and 27,347 miles; all present andstamped in the Triumph service passport.  It was then sold toMr. Naidu who, it is believed, sent the car to his holiday home inJersey which he visited very infrequently and only used the Stag tomove around the island. Being a rather small island and used sosparingly, the little Triumph spent almost all of its time wrappedup in a garage thus accumulating only another 10,000 miles in the25 years of ownership. The current owner purchased the car in 2007and was astonished at the quality of a car some 30 years old andhas since made every effort to continue with the upkeep again asdocumented in the history file. Upgrades include a four branch Holly carburetor conversion, alarger fan, new exhaust and rear seatbelts and the vendor informsus that the running of the engine is fabulous. The paint and chromework is in very good order and accompanying the sale is a historyfile including previous MoT's as well as a current one valid untilMay 2016, the original service booklet, Handbook and instructionmanual alongside service bills and V5 registration document. If youare interested in reviving your youth, we would certainly urge youto give the Triumph Stag more than a passingglance.?
