1981 Renault 5 GTL

Lot # 201 (Sale Order: 1 of 30)

* Built and prepared by Mark Fish Motorsport in 1981* In need of some recommissioning and pre-race prep before the season* Eligible for 750MC Classic Stock Hatch and other club championships* Fabulous fun to drive. Motor racing doesn't get any cheaper During the mid-1980s, the tenacious little Renault 5 GT Turbo was adapted for racing and competed in the Renault-supported 'Renault 5 Elf Turbo UK Cup' Championship with great effect until 1990/91. The cars were largely based on the road-going versions but were stripped, mildly tuned and had a few modifications including brake ducts, a different boost pipe, engine mounts, roll-cage and strut brace. From 1991, the Clio 16v took over as the flagship one-make, running with the BTCC. After this time, the Renault 5s completed in their own one-make championship in the early 1990s, then in the 'Super Coupé Cup'. This was a championship that ran from the mid-1990s to 2003 and catered for many one-make championships that no longer had manufacturer support. This particular example is a Renault 5 GTL that was originally campaigned in the 1981 Renault 5 Championship with Lance Baber at the wheel. The well-known Renault race car builder Mark Fish competed and won the championship in 1985 and thus gained cult status within the Renault fraternity, and hence Mark Fish Motorsport was formed. Over the 22 years of the Renault championship, his company race prepared and ran many successful cars, this one being an original built by Mark Fish.At the time, the engine was built to race specification and included; a ported cylinder head, race cams, tuned exhaust, and custom airbox resulting in around 100bhp which, for a light car with a longitudinally mounted engine and good weight distribution, lead to competitive lap times and a rather exuberant cornering style! To this end, it is running standard brakes and sticky tyres as that is all that is required. The suspension and camber have also been set-up for racing hence its stance with its low Gordini bumper.Brought out of 'retirement' in 2002 this plucky Renault 5 competed in the Historic Touring Car Championship and in 2004 was invited to compete in a special 30 years celebration of Renault Racing Car series. Being one of few surviving 3-door cars in attendance, with many front-running Renaults being GT Turbo's from the 90's, this car received a lot of attention. The following year the car competed in the IBIS Packing Solutions Touring Car Championship where it was a consistent front-runner in Class E.In summary, this car appears corrosion-free and presents as the perfect candidate to be refreshed and returned to the track. We advise all prospective buyers to satisfy themselves as to the currency and legality of all safety equipment in the car including; the seat, harnesses, fire extinguisher and roll cage. A possible entrant to the 750 Motor Club Classic Stock Hatch Championship or similar, this pocket-rocket is offered at no reserve and makes for a very tempting purchase prior to the start of the 2018 season.

1994 Porsche 968 Sport and Trailer

Lot # 202 (Sale Order: 2 of 30)

* Smart, well equipped, 968 Sport that has raced only once* EMC Engines of Birmingham prepared the car for circuit racing with work totalling £5,750* Steel fuel lines, new discs all round, Pagid pads, new Aeroquip brake lines, rebuilt Gaz shocks,* New windscreen, new race seat and 6-point harnesses, carbon door cards, 4 new Dunlop DZ03G tyres* Very affordable, entry-level Porsche motorsport complete with 4-wheel covered trailer & spare set of wheels The Porsche (project no.) 968 made its debut in 1991 and was effectively, the last gasp for the long-lived 924 line. The interior trim was standardised with the 911 and 928, justifying the inflated list price, but not enough as sales were rather slow, however, all that changed in 1993 when the stripped-out, back-to-basics 'Clubsport' (Vereinssport) was launched at £7,000 less. Not only was it cheaper, but the CS was also inspirationally good to drive. Porsche had set their sights on creating a car tailored for the driving enthusiast and, in particular, one with competition potential. This was achieved by removing all luxury-orientated equipment from the basic build specification, for example, less sound deadening material was used and the electric windows were replaced with hand wound units. In addition, Porsche installed manually adjustable, lightweight Recaro racing seats rather than the standard power-operated, leather buckets, and revised suspension optimized and lowered by 20mm, with 17-inch wheels also helped the quest for lightness and crisp handling. With the no-frills approach, less weight, and clever suspension, Porsche could now focus media attention on the Club Sport's fast road and track abilities, and the CS achieved a 'Performance Car Of The Year' award in 1993 from Performance Car magazine in the UK. In total, just 1,923 units were produced, of which only 179 were right-hand drive, making the Club Sport a very rare Porsche indeed.Offered here is a 1994 Porsche 968 Sport competition car which was built from an original UK-supplied, right-hand drive example. An invoice in the file shows that respected marque specialist Autofarm corrected an oil leak in 2015 and carried out some other minor work totalling £860. Our vendor bought the car later that year and sent it to EMC Engines of Birmingham who prepared the car for circuit racing with work totalling £5,750:- Steel fuel lines- New discs all round with Pagid brake pads- New Aeroquip brake lines- Rebuilt all 4 Gaz shocks- New windscreen- New race seat and 6-point harnesses- Carbon door cards- 4 new Dunlop DZ03G tyres- All new fluids and filters.Work commitments have meant our vendor has only had time to complete one race at Brands Hatch since, and so the car is now ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. Also included in the sale is a covered trailer and a spare set of wheels. We suggest all prospective bidders please satisfy themselves as to the currency and legality of all safety equipment on this 968. The perfect candidate for the 'Modern Classics' championship run by the Classic & Sports Car Club, this little Porsche racer is now ready for a busy 2018 season.

1964 Triumph Spitfire 'Le Mans GT Fastback'

Lot # 204 (Sale Order: 4 of 30)

* Original Williams & Pritchard 'Le Mans' GT fastback with a Lenham one-piece front end * Comprehensive restoration in 2012 with incredible attention to period detail* 1320cc competition engine with twin Weber 40s. C/R competition gearbox, LSD, IRS, adjustable shocks, uprated discs* NEW; fire extinguisher system, race harness, competition dry-cell battery, electrical cut-out, Smiths 8,000 rpm tach* Eligible for HRDC 'Allstars', CSCC 'Swinging Sixties', Ecurie GTS Championship and possibly the 'Fordwater Trophy'Named after the iconic WW2 fighter aircraft and launched in 1962, the Triumph Spitfire, styled by Michelotti, was Triumph's riposte to BMC's Sprite/Midget range and was such a success that the basic design remained virtually unchanged until 1970.This 1964 Spitfire has been built with incredible attention to period detail. Whilst echoing the style of the Works Le Mans cars, this particular Spitfire has its own unique identity having been clothed with an original Williams & Pritchard 'Le Mans' GT fastback and a sleek Lenham one-piece front end. Sporting a 1320cc competition engine breathing through twin Weber 40s, the power is fed through a close-ratio competition gearbox to a limited slip diff which ably transmits the car's horsepower to the independent rear suspension, all of which works in unison with the adjustable shock absorbers and uprated front disc brakes. Keeping the driver safe is a full roll cage, racing harness and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher system. The comprehensive restoration was initially carried out on this car in 2012 when it was stripped to a bare shell, carefully repainted in a correct shade of British Racing Green and detailed before being prepared for competition. The owner, a time-served restoration specialist, then completed just 4,000 road miles and a single hill climb, so the mechanical integrity of the car's rebuild has been carefully retained with such little use. In October of 2017, this car was sent to Triumph racing specialist 'Moto-Build Racing' for a complete refresh for the forthcoming 2018 season. After the engine was tuned and set up on a rolling road, the safety equipment on this car was subjected to a full upgrade to include a new plumbed-in fire extinguisher unit, new race harness, converted to a competition dry-cell battery system and fitted with a new electrical cut-out. A new period correct Smiths 8,000 rpm tachometer was also fitted. With a more than acceptable patina of age, this versatile competition car will look the part in any historic competition paddock. The attention to period detail in all aspects of this historic Spitfire is obvious; notably, the period competition steel wheels, race number lights, vented bonnet detail and correctly executed race numbers. Prepared and already accepted for the highly respected HRDC 'Allstars' Series, this Spitfire is surely a welcome addition to a number of other prominent historic series such as CSCC 'Swinging Sixties' and the Ecurie GTS Championship. It is also worthy of note that this car would be eligible for one of Goodwood Revival's coveted 'Fordwater Trophy' production sportscar races. Offered at a most realistic reserve, it would be hard to contemplate buying an early Spitfire and successfully building it to anything close to this rare specification for the money. An altogether unrepeatable package that provides a truly accessible entry into the exciting world of historic motorsport.

1970 Lola T210 SL210-07

Lot # 205 (Sale Order: 5 of 30)

* Probably the best sorted and currently quickest Lola T210 available today* Complete history and an impressive list of successes, in the past and more recently* Prepared and run by Martin Stretton. Recently refreshed Richardson Ford FVC* A winning car last year. On the button and ready for the 2018 season* Check our website for further informationAt the end of the 1969 season, Eric Broadley, owner of Lola Cars realised that he was unable to sustain the economic effort needed, particularly in engine development, to build a car capable of competing with the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512 in the World Championships for Makes. He decided to build a car to compete in the new Sports 2-Litre Championship, where the wide availability of engines would ease the economic effort and expanded the customer base. The resulting Lola T210 was an open sports car with an aluminium monocoque, lighter and more rigid than a conventional tube frame but more difficult to build and repair. The front and rear suspensions were conventional and a tubular sub-frame was mounted at the rear to support the engine, gearbox and suspension. The 245bhp, four-cylinder, 1.8-litre Ford Cosworth FVC was the engine of choice coupled to a 5-speed Hewland gearbox and clothed in fibreglass bodywork, this pretty little racer weighed in at 550 Kg.Jo Bonnier was Lola's works driver and he made the best use of the 210 winning the 1970 European Championships and came within one point of winning the European Championship for Makes. The following year the T210 was upgraded to the T212 and they went on to become the most successful cars in the 1971 European Championship, winning five of the nine races and rewarding Helmut Marko with the title. Lola produced 16 T210s and a further 22 T212s, making it a commercial as well as a sporting success. Offered here is probably the best sorted and currently quickest Lola T210 available today with a complete history and an impressive list of successes, in the past and more recently. With a refreshed Richardson Ford FVC and prepared by the talented Martin Stretton,' No-fuss Russ', and their team of race engineers in Kidderminster, it's ready to go and win in the world's most prestigious events. In 1970 the car was run by the German BG Racing Team with driver Willy Kauhsen competing in the first five races at the Nurburgring 500 kms, Anderstorp, Hockenheim and Mugello in the European 2.0-litre Championship. For the final half of the season it participated in endurance events including the Kyalami 9hrs in South Africa with New Zealanders, John McNicoll and Willie Ferguson sharing the driving, and in October 1971 Helmut Marko managed a worthy 2nd place at the Bulawayo 3hrs. After a run of very creditable results, the first win for #SL210-07 was at the hands of Gerard Larrousse in a round of the European 2.0-litre Championship at Paul Ricard on 9-4-1972.Ownership then passed to Swiss team owner George Foitek before being purchased by Peter Bloore of the well known 'Raceparts' business and the car remained in his possession for some twenty-five years. Several years ago Broadley Automotive were entrusted to do a total rebuild and they were about 90% through that when it was purchased by our vendor who handed it over to Martin Stretton to complete the build and get it race-ready. They installed a new Richardson FVC, new belts, extinguisher, fuel cells, wheels, shocks, springs, exhaust etc. and generally finished the car to their normal high standards. Consequently, our vendor has really enjoyed enjoying driving this car for the last three seasons in the Masters and CER1 with some excellent results culminating with a win at Paul Ricard last October. Careful preparation and shared driving duties on occasions with Martin Stretton has ensured that 07 has remained the most competitive Lola T210 currently out there and is eligible for, and welcome at, all the 'Blue Ribband' sports car events in the world.

1963 Jaguar MK 2

Lot # 206 (Sale Order: 6 of 30)

* Initially built from a solid donor car with the intention of producing a competitive and reliable MkII to be used at club level* Has enjoyed a long and successful racing career in the hands of its gentleman driver/owner spanning over 20 years!* Numerous class wins and a number of outright wins. This remarkable car has also laid claim to a few championships* Fibreglass panels were used for the bonnet, boot lid and some of the external trim * Pete Lander /Sigma Engineering 3.8-litre engine. Race spec Pete Lander gearbox and back axle* The suspension, brakes and running gear have all been quietly developed over the years * A well prepared, front-running car with lots of potentialIn April of 1963, as the Jaguar Mk II featured here was rolling down the production line at Browns Lane, the cream of British saloon car drivers were lining up on the grid at Goodwood prior to the start of the St. Mary's Trophy, a round of the 1963 British Saloon Car Championship. 3.8 Mk IIs filled the top seven places on the entry list and a contemporary report from Autosport reads; “Mike Salmon led the pack away from the start in his Jaguar and held the lead for the whole of the first lap ahead of Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori, Peter Dodd, Bill Aston and Jeff Sparrow in similar cars. On lap 2 Hill took the lead and Sparrow spun at Lavant and Jack Sears nipped into sixth spot chased by Jimmy Blumer. Salvadori passed Salmon on lap 4 and followed Hill closely for the rest of the race”. Famous as these cars are, none have had the length of competition career as Graeme Dodds' venerable example offered for sale today. This particular example has enjoyed a long and successful racing career in the hands of its gentleman driver/owner spanning over 20 years! The car has competed throughout this time in a variety of championships including JEC, HSCC Historic Roadsports, and more recently in the Jaguar Heritage Challenge series. As well as numerous class wins and a number of outright wins this remarkable car has laid claim to a few championships and is possibly the 'winningest' classic Jaguar racer in recent years. It was initially built from a solid donor car with the intention of producing a competitive and reliable MkII to be used at club level with the occasional foray to Spa and Pau, and no expense was spared in the build. Fibreglass panels were used for the bonnet, boot lid and some of the external trim such as bumpers and the interior was partly stripped and prepared for racing. Some club championships require a certain amount of the original trim to remain and this was taken into consideration. A full cage is fitted as well as a Tilton Pedal arrangement and a Smiths electronic rev counter mated to an Armtech Speedshift device. Further details of the interior spec, harness, extinguishers etc. will be supplied shortly. The suspension, brakes and running gear have all been quietly developed over the years and full details of all of this will be available shortly.Pete Lander of Sigma Engineering has long been regarded as the 'Guru' when it comes to the 3.8-litre XK engines and it's one of his creations that powers this car with its remarkable power output fed through an equally well-built race specification Pete Lander gearbox and back axle. Our vendor is currently travelling and full details of the engine's spec and rebuild history will be available when he returns. This car is a well-known example throughout the UK racing scene and the current owner has enjoyed much success, many battles and races including a support race at the British Grand Prix. However, he and his son have had an excellent couple of seasons in the Jaguar Classic Challenge in their glorious E-Type and he now feels its time to let the MkII go and for a new owner to pick up the mantle and continue its illustrious racing career.

1970 Ford Escort Mk.I RS1600 FIA race car

Lot # 207 (Sale Order: 7 of 30)

* From the home of the well-respected British saloon car driver Vince Woodman * Created from an original 1970 Ford Escort RS1600 bodyshell. Built in 2008 into an FIA 'Appendix K' race car * Ridgeway Engines rebuilt 2.0 BDG unit mated to a 5-speed ZF gearbox, disc brakes, comp spec wiring loom, Avon slicks, full roll cage, competition seat, and 5-point harness* Finished in Vince's famous Broadspeed VMW Motors livery. Supplied with a UK V5c and its FIA HTP papers,* It has only been used once since its rebuild and therefore presents in superb condition. In 1970, Ford opened their Advanced Vehicles Operation at Aveley dedicated to the production of the Escort RS range and both the Mexico and RS1600 were built simultaneously at the, now famous, South Essex plant. The RS1600 was one step up from the Mexico and was developed using an engine that was essentially a detuned Formula 3 unit designated BDA (Belt Drive 'A' Series) combined with a strengthened bodyshell and sports suspension making it ideal for competition. The same year also marked the formation of Ford's RS Dealer network dedicated to selling these products to a very eager public. For the first time ever, professional teams and privateers alike could compete on an equal footing, so even a 'clubman', equipped with his RS Parts catalogue, had reason to be optimistic. The Ford Escort RS1600 BDA would dominate the World Rally Championship for several years and turn British and Scandinavian drivers into household names. During the late 1960s, a Bristolian racing driver by the name of Vince Woodman began to make a name for himself on the motor racing circuits of the UK. Synonymous with Ford, Woodman became a regular, driving Broadspeed Escorts and Capris and finished 3rd overall in the 1973 British Touring Car Championship. A very successful season in 1982 saw Vince secure four overall victories in his 'Cologne' Capri, particularly poignant as these turned out to be the last wins for the Capri in period.Created from an original 1970 Ford Escort RS1600 bodyshell with registration 'XKB 353J', this particular car was built in 2008 into an FIA 'Appendix K' race car with FIA HTP papers valid until 31st December 2017. After selling his much beloved Cologne Capri, Vince purchased this car and finished it in his famous Broadspeed VMW Motors livery. The specification of the car includes a Ridgeway Engines rebuilt 2.0 BDG unit mated to a 5-speed ZF gearbox, disc brakes both front and rear, a competition spec wiring loom, Avon slicks, full roll cage, competition seat, and 5-point harness. Naturally, prospective buyers should satisfy themselves as to the currency and legality of all the safety equipment in this car. It has only been used once since its rebuild and therefore presents in superb condition.Supplied with a UK V5c and its current FIA HTP papers, this fabulous RS1600 comes from the home of a well-respected British saloon car driver of the period and would be a welcome entrant at 'Blue Riband' events including Motor Racing Legends, HSCC meetings, and the Heritage Touring Cup run by Peter Auto.

1966 Morris Mini Cooper 'S' 1293

Lot # 208 (Sale Order: 8 of 30)

* Road registered 1275 'S' Works homage club rally car. * Superbly prepared. Great period detail. Gearbox completely rebuilt less than 500 miles ago* 1293cc well-built engine, lightened and balanced and fitted with a Janspeed head. Around 100bhp * From nine-year ownership, Very lightly used and 'on the button' It's amazing how many motoring images from three or four years in the mid-1960s have gone on to become almost iconic. Steve McQueen's Highland Green, Shelby 390GT with smoke pouring from the tortured rear tyres, Jim Clark's Lotus Cortina waving a wheel at the crowd, bespattered, orange and blue, Gulf GT40s crossing the finishing line at Le Mans, and anyone with even a passing interest in Rallying can instantly recall those night-time pictures of the world-beating works Mini-Cooper S' of Aaltonen, Makinen and Hopkirk battling through heavy snow on the Col de Turini in '65 and '66.Given that lasting image, it's probably not surprising that, should you be considering restoring a genuine 1966 1275 'S' with some club rallying in mind, then the 'Works' cars of this period make a marvellous template. This excellent example of an original UK 1275 Mk.1 Cooper 'S' has resided with the current owner for the last nine years. Whilst it has been prepared as a period Rally Car and has previously been issued with an RAC/MSA Log Book, the current owner has never used it for competition. Finished in the classic period colour combination of Almond Green and Old English White, this car has been restored to an exceptional standard using only correct period components and modifications. Most motorsport events, including circuit racing and rallying, were divided into classes with small saloons able to run up to 1300cc. Homologation regulations allowed re-boring to within factory recommended limits and the 1275cc standard engine could legally be bored to '+60 thou' giving a swept volume of 1293cc and a few more bhp. Every little bit helps and this became fairly standard practice with teams running the 1275 'S'.CJD 69D is indeed powered by a 1293cc unit that has been lightened and balanced and fitted with a Janspeed head and, we understand, produces around 100hp on the rolling road. It's fitted with a competition clutch, Salisbury LSD diff, s/c c/c gearbox, uprated driveshafts, adjustable suspension (dry), camber blocks and tie bars, Bilstein shock absorbers, competition rubber cones, and silver painted Minilite wheels. The interior is fitted with a full 'works' spec dash, including a Halda Twinmaster, matched Heuer stopwatches, and a heated front screen. The Mini has been very lightly used since the rebuild and with only three previous owners the recorded mileage of 18,500 may well be correct but we cannot verify this. The car's history file contains some earlier MOTs and invoices for the engine build, etc. There is no motoring event anywhere, large or small, that will not greet you with a grin when you arrive in this evocative '66 Cooper 'S'.

1970 Morgan Plus 8

Lot # 209 (Sale Order: 9 of 30)

* No-expense-spared, nut and bolt restoration in 2011/12 on a new race-prepared steel chassis from G.E.E,* New factory ash frame. Newly built John Eales race engine recorded at 254 bhp* Rebuild was completed to FIA Appendix K specification for 'Period G' cars,* Supplied with a UK V5c, reams of invoices, an MOT until 15th April 2018, and its FIA/MSA passport valid until 31st December 2027,* Eligible for HSCC events, Tour Auto, Tour Britannia and new for 2018, a 1970's HSCC Roadsports race at the Silverstone Classic* Please note, registration plate 'RCR 1F' is being retained by the vendor, and the car is now registered 'FVG 727J'. Introduced in 1968, the Morgan Plus 8 was immediately popular and remained in production for 36 years, an income stream that has been widely credited with keeping the company afloat during difficult times. Design and development of the Plus 8 was led by the larger-than-life, Maurice Owen, a race engineer taken on specifically for the role. The Plus 8 prototype was based on a modified version of the Plus 4, to which was added a Rover 3.5 litre V8, purchased from GM-Buick in 1967. The Plus 4's 4-speed manual Moss gearbox with synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th was carried over and the Salisbury 7HA axle was uprated with a limited slip differential.Built along familiar Morgan lines, its ladder frame chassis was equipped with independent 'sliding-pillar' front suspension, a leaf-sprung rear axle, and disc/drum brakes. Supported by an ash frame, its swooping bodywork looked as traditional as ever but gave no clues as to the new model's extraordinary performance potential. These early 'Moss box' Plus 8s, of which only 484 were built between 1968 – 1972, have now become very desirable and sought-after Morgans. This particular, UK-supplied 1970 'Moss box' Plus 8 was discovered in Norway by our vendor who repatriated the car to the UK and then embarked on a no-expense-spared, nut and bolt restoration in 2011/12. Built well within the homologated weight of 853 kg on a new race-prepared steel chassis from G.E.E, a new factory ash frame was ordered and a newly built John Eales race engine was installed recorded as producing 254 bhp. Mated to the new engine was the Moss gearbox which received the full treatment from respected specialist Billy Bellinger of J.B Sports Engineering, who also rebuilt the axle. Assembly and build of the car was entrusted to Brett Syndercombe of Brands Hatch Morgans who, over the years, has built some of the finest historic racing Morgans currently competing. Once the rebuild was completed to FIA Appendix K specification for 'Period G' cars, our vendor campaigned this Plus 8 successfully in various events including; HSCC meetings at Silverstone Donington, Spa, Tour Britannia and Modena Cento Ore in Italy. In 2016, the engine was checked over and rebuilt by John Eales and the axle and gearbox were again refreshed by J.B. Sports Engineering. Currently riding on Minilite wheels, the sale of this car also includes 5 original Morgan alloy wheels shod with good road tyres, aero screens, a custom-made tonneau cover, side-screen, a waterproof cover, a front bumper, two rear parcel shelves, the original engine, and the original internals for the gearbox. There are also some sundry race spares including spark plugs, brake pads etc. Prospective buyers should satisfy themselves as to the currency and legality of all safety equipment in the car.Supplied with a UK V5c, reams of invoices, an MOT until 15th April 2018, and its FIA/MSA passport valid until 31st December 2027, this stunning race car is versatile enough to use on the road, but is also eligible for some of the most prestigious HSCC events, Tour Auto, Tour Britannia and new for 2018, a 1970's HSCC Roadsports race at the Silverstone Classic! Well-prepared and rare in its own right, this car represents a remarkable opportunity and we urge you to consider it when thinking about your 2018 race season. Please note, registration plate 'RCR 1F' is being retained by the vendor, and the car is now registered 'FVG 727J'.

1972 Datsun 240Z (2.8ltr) Club Rally Car

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 10 of 30)

* Replica of the Altonen and Todt 'works' Nissan that finished 3rd in Monte Carlo in 1972* Original engine bored and stroked to later-spec, 2.8-litres* MSA Licenced car entered in the Monte Carlo Historique in 2013 and 2014* £7/8,000 was invested at the marque specialists 'Z Farm' prior to the 2013 Monte* LSD, upgraded brakes, sump guard, rally lights, wiring and electrics. * MSA Licence lapsed. May require some updates to belts and seats etc. to reinstateThe Datsun 240Z, (latterly the 260Z and 280Z) was the first generation of 'Z' two-seat coupés produced by Nissan in Japan from 1969 to 1978. Its dramatic looks owed a considerable amount to a 1960's styling concept drawn by Count Albrecht Goertz for Datsun, presumably at a time when they were considering ways to break into the European sports car market. The early cars were powered by a lusty 2.4 litre, straight six, overhead cam engine, developing around 150bhp resulting in a 0-60 time of 8 seconds, and a top speed of 125mph. A five-speed manual gearbox was standard and the car featured independent suspension all round with MacPherson struts at the front and Chapman links at the rear. Rack and pinion power steering and front disc brakes meant that the 240Z was a thoroughly modern package. This evocative 240Z is a super replication of the Nissan works car that was driven by Rauno Altonen and navigated by Jean Todt in the 1972 Monte Carlo rally finishing in a very creditable third place. It was imported into the UK in 1973, declared built in 1973 and ended up with a 1973 registration number but it's definitely a '72. Prior to selling the car in 2012, its owner at the time, Robert Gaskin, had removed the engine and had the L24 block bored and stroked to the later 2.8-litre spec before carefully reassembling it and installing it in the car. With some classic rallying in mind, its new owner sent the car to marque experts the Z Farm and they carried out some work including fitting a limited slip diff, suspension, upgrading the brakes, a sump guard, some rewiring, lights, and sorting out the complex electrics of a fully equipped rally car. We understand the account for this was in the region of £7-8,000. In 2013 and 2014 the Datsun took part in the Monaco Historique starting from Glasgow on both occasions. The car then came into the possession of our vendor and has remained in his collection ever since. Whilst its MSA paperwork may have lapsed, it is our understanding that a few updates to the safety equipment are all that are required to have this cracking car back up and enjoying the limelight. The overall impression is of a really well-detailed and functional competition car and harks back to the 'big Healey' days with lots of grunt and rear-wheel drive. As well as historic rallies, the car is suitable for club events with night stages, regularity runs, demonstrations at Race Retro etc. or even just going to the pub on a winter's evening.

1960 Cooper Monaco T57 MKII CM3-60

Lot # 211 (Sale Order: 11 of 30)

* Competitive and superbly prepared. Undoubtedly one of the best.* Changed to Mk III coil-spring rear suspension in period by John Cooper* Recently rebuilt and prepared by Martin Stretton and his Team. Fresh Climax 2.0 FPF* Consistently successful over recent decades* FIA Papers. Set-up information. Lots of historyIt was in November 1958 that the original Cooper Monaco, offset-driving position, sports-racing car was announced by the Surbiton-based company to replace its preceding centre-seat 'Bobtail' small-capacity models. The new design was named 'Monaco' as a respectful nod to Maurice Trintignant's 1958 victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, behind the wheel of a Rob Walker-entered Formula 1 Cooper-Climax. The original Cooper Monaco Mark I model combined coil-and-wishbone front suspension with a transverse-leaf rear end and was a notably short-wheelbase sports-racing car, amazingly low and light for the period, clothed in stubby and purposeful aluminium bodywork.During 1959, the new Monacos were immediately successful, displaying a decent advantage over the contemporary front-engined Lotus-Climax 15s. At the mid-season British GP meeting, Stirling Moss made his Monaco debut in the first 2.5-litre Climax-engined variant, while other owners fitted the 2.5-litre Maserati four-cylinder in place of Cooper's preferred Coventry Climax FPF power unit. The Mk II differed in detail and featured a slightly longer nose improving the car's balance at speed. Offered here is a beautifully prepared Cooper Monaco Mk II that is already a previous class winner in the Goodwood Stirling Moss Trophy in 2014. It has been fully rebuilt by Martin Stretton and his team and is ready for the worlds top events. In 1960, early in its race career, it was crashed and during the repairs, Cooper took the opportunity to bring the car up to date by incorporating the coil spring rear suspension arrangement from the Mk III. The history file contains a letter signed by John Cooper explaining that they did upgrade cars in late 1960 and on the strength of photos supplied confirmed that #CM3-60 was indeed modified by them and converted to the more effective coil spring set up. This is a well-known and much-admired car that has been owned and raced extensively by Cooper aficionado Sid Hoole for over forty years. In recent years it has continued its winning ways in the hands of our vendor and is undoubtedly one of the top Monacos. Preparation has been entrusted to renowned specialist Martin Stretton who have recently completely rebuilt the Monaco and its Climax 2.0 FPF making this car ready to continue winning in 2018.This is a unique and exciting opportunity to own a highly competitive coil-sprung Cooper Monaco, surely the ultimate early sixties Sports Racing Car, and put yourself at the front of some pretty decent International Sportscar grids. Accompanied by current FIA papers.

1993 Subaru Legacy RS Group A Ex-Prodrive Rally Car

Lot # 214 (Sale Order: 14 of 30)

* Driven by Ari Vatanen in the 1993 Acropolis Rally and then re-shelled in-house back at Prodrive * Driven by Richard Burns at the 1995 Bettega Memorial Rallysprint* Acquired by the Richard Burns Collection in 2008 who used ex-Prodrive man Ian Richardson to oversee its rebuild into original guise with an authentic Prodrive-spec Legacy shell* Now in full Works spec, retaining its correct chassis ID plate plus its famous and evocative original number-plateAs a World Rally Championship 'Group A' rally car, the Subaru Legacy RS was in use during the formative years of the famous Subaru World Rally Team, from 1990 until the début of the Impreza '555' in 1993. The Legacy was the first Subaru rally car to utilise the flat-4 'Boxer' engine and came to prominence after Subaru's motorsport department (STI - Subaru Tecnica International) moved its base from Japan to England, with David Richard's 'Prodrive' taking Subaru to new heights within international rallying. The Legacy RS was developed during 1989 and homologated in January 1990 in accordance with the current Group A regulations. The 2.0-litre turbo engine produced circa 290bhp and 392 Nm of torque with all that power and torque being distributed to all four wheels through an 'X-Trac' manual gearbox and subsequently through a viscous coupling centre differential and limited slip front/rear differentials. The Legacy's rallying career started strongly, with its maiden podium coming in 1991 at the Swedish Rally, where Markku Alen finished in third place. Ari Vatanen and Colin McRae debuted with Subaru Rally Team Europe's Legacy at the 1991 Lombard RAC Rally, with Vatanen finishing in fifth place and McRae crashing out. 1991 saw the 23-year-old McRae capture the British Rally Championship title driving a Legacy RS, scoring four BRC wins during the year and securing his first British title. In the 1992 Championship, Subaru Rally Team participated in only seven of the fourteen rounds, preferring to demonstrate the car's ability on gravel, however, Vatanen and McRae were signed up as full-time drivers. Wearing its now distinctive blue and yellow colour scheme, along with a new title sponsor, State Express 555, the all-new Impreza 555 was almost ready to enter competition when the Legacy RS finally scored its first and only WRC victory. It was in August 1993 at Rally New Zealand, where McRae managed to hold back Ford's Francois Delecour. It wasn't only the first WRC win for the outgoing car but also the first ever WRC win for the future world champion who went on to become one of the most popular rally drivers ever.During its competitive career from 1990 to 1993, the Legacy RS scored one victory and five WRC podiums but, here at home, won three consecutive British Rally Championship titles driven by Colin McRae and Richard Burns, setting a foundation for one of the most extraordinary stories in the history of the WRC. 'K555 BAT' really is a part of this amazing Subaru rallying story and has a fascinating history. In 1993, as the latest specification works entry, it was leading the Acropolis Rally driven by Ari Vatanen, ahead of Tommi Makinen, Carlos Sainz and Didier Auriol, Colin McRae and Juha Kankkunen, but on Special Stage 21, it was crashed and badly damaged. After the rally, it returned to Prodrive and was re-shelled in-house before being sold to the Italian team 'Procar' and was subsequently driven by Trelles, Navarra and Liatti. Whilst in Italy it was also driven by Richard Burns at the 1995 Bettega Memorial Rallysprint, achieving a second place overall. In 2000, the car was purchased by Hugh Dunne and returned to the UK to be used on the IRC. Following this, it was sold to Alastair Cavenagh who in 2001 oversaw its re-shell again, this time into a new 'Safari-spec' Impreza shell (not uncommon for Legacys), with the work carried out by Subaru rally specialists 'Autosportif Engineering Ltd.' of Bicester. In 2008, the car was acquired by the Richard Burns Collection who commissioned Autosportif to completely rebuild the car and return it to its original guise. This process was overseen by ex-Prodrive man Ian Richardson, who was able to call upon all his specialist knowledge and the original technical drawings to produce a brand new, authentic Prodrive-spec Legacy shell for the car. The very special car, retaining its correct chassis ID plate (PRO/STI/01.112 Type: BC5019283) plus its famous and evocative original number-plate, has a continuous owner/rebuild history and is today presented in the same gravel specification and livery as per the 1993 Acropolis Rally, utilising the correct ECU, many original mechanical components, and the correct 'Works' engine, 6-speed gearbox and suspension set-up. This formidable machine has only covered approximately 100 kilometres since this exacting rebuild and would make a worthy addition to any collection.

1990 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 'Group A'

Lot # 216 (Sale Order: 16 of 30)

* Amazing and unique opportunity to purchase the 1990 BTCC Championship-winning Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth * Fabulous pedigree. Robb Gravett with Mike Smith and Stig Blomqvist. Record-breaking nine wins during the season* New shell for the 1990 season built and prepared by Dave Cook of Yortech Fabrications * Twenty years in storage before being purchased by our vendor. Publically offered for sale for the first time* Eligible for HSCC 'Supertourers', the Grand Prix Legends Touring Car Challenge, as well as numerous prestige events* Now back in its 1990 livery. An important part of BTCC historyIn 1989 Radio 1 Breakfast DJ, the late and great Mike Smith, joined forces with highly respected ex-Prodrive Team Manager, Malcolm Swetnam, and top saloon driver of the day, Robb Gravett, to form "Trakstar" a team whose sole ambition was to win the British Touring Car Championship. Robb and Mike had enjoyed prior success in both the Monroe and Uniroyal Production Saloon Car Championships, as well the BTCC, and their resourcefulness took them to Australia and the highly successful Dick Johnson racing team. Two top-spec Ford Sierras were purchased, with their backing coming from NEC and Cartel (a mobile phone service provider of the day) and Shell Oils, and then put instantly to good use in the 1989 BTCC by winning the first round at Oulton Park. Their goal was to win the Championship outright and beat the other teams especially the established Rouse Engineering Ford Works team, which they very nearly achieved at their first attempt, ending the season by disputing the overall title in a courtroom drama between the MSA and Rouse Engineering (over a possible non-legal turbo charger) which the MSA lost. Thus Trakstar finished as runners-up despite several outright race wins! For the 1990 season they focussed their efforts on one car for their lead driver Robb Gravett, with Mike supporting him at Brands Hatch and Stig Blomqvist at Donnington in the long distance two-driver races. This car, which was a new shell specified by Trakstar and prepared by Dave Cook of Yortech Fabrications, was then fitted with all new running gear. This is the car we are proud to offer here in this Sale. All the 'trick bits' from the previous Dick Johnson car, which included the special "spool" type differential, Eggenberger suspension, and a Getrag 5-speed dog gearbox were utilised which, when coupled to a top-spec Mountune RS500 engine running up to 2.5 bar boost, gave them well over 500bhp on tap. Cleverly Gravett also negotiated a unique tyre contract with Yokohama tyres which the team developped and tested, and they soon became known as the best tyre available and longer wearing than the Pirellis used by Rouse Engineering, which then sealed this car's winning edge. They went on to win 9 rounds outright with 8 pole positions and 8 fastest laps and took the overall BTCC title which gave the Sierra RS500 its swansong Championship victory before the new 2-litre cars took over from 1991 and beyond, adding to the provenance of this particular car. This RS was then converted to left hand drive, sold to Italy and used in Italian 'Supertourismo' during 1991 before being laid up for the next 20 years until being discovered by our vendor and eventually purchased in 2014. Publically offered for sale for the first time since that dominant Championship win, the car has an outstanding pedigree and, is today a significant part of BTCC history. It's now back in its original right hand drive form and in it's original livery, but is not fully race prepared, presenting its lucky new owner with the opportunity of deciding on his or her choice of engine specification - which we are sure Mountune Racing would be happy to supply once more! Now re-fitted with its original RS500 engine which is now 1993cc, but is only running on a 4 injector ECU (when it raced in Italy their regulations forbid the RS500 version of the Sierra) built to the Italian spec of the day which only allowed single point injectors, not the twin set up as used in the BTCC. Details noting the extent of the recent rebuild and an expert report by Paul Linfoot will be available to view in advance of the sale to seriously interested parties.1990 BTCC results for this car:13th April Oulton Park 12th29th April Donington Park 2nd (Pole and fastest lap)28th May Thruxton 1st (Pole and fastest lap)10th June Silverstone 1st 1st July Oulton Park 1st (Fastest lap)15th July Silverstone 1st (Pole and fastest lap)22nd July Brands Hatch 1st (Pole)5th August Snetterton 1st (Pole and fastest lap)23rd August Brands Hatch 1st (Pole and fastest lap)27th August Birmingham DNF (Pole and fastest lap)16th September Donington Park 1st 23rd September Thruxton 3rd (Pole and fastest lap)7th October Silverstone 1stThis is an amazing and unique opportunity to purchase a BTCC Championship-winning Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth which is now eligible for the HSCC 'Supertourers' series, the Grand Prix Legends Touring

1997 Nissan Primera Super Tourer - Ex David Leslie

Lot # 218 (Sale Order: 18 of 30)

* Driven in 1997 by the late, great David Leslie. * Owned by our vendor since 2005. Restored to factory colours/graphics in 2013 by DB coachworks. Only one outing since * Very impressive spares package offering everything you need to go racing properly including a spare engine, bodywork, suspension, 40 wheels, Pi laptop, data + set up sheets - probably at least £40k worth of spares. * Eligible for HSCC Supertouring Championship and high profile events such as the Silverstone Classic Often referred to as the best Super Touring Car ever constructed, this 1997, RML built, Nissan Primera Super Tourer was driven in period by the late, great David Leslie in the British Touring Car Championship and has been owned by our vendor since 2005. Under current ownership, Chassis #33 has won three Club Championships and one prior to his ownership in Formula Saloons. After a strong debut season in 1997, the car was updated with the, then, current 1998 aero pack, larger flared front wings (there are spares) and an update to the ECU and dash instrumentation, before being sent to Sweden to campaign the STCC in 1998. However, all the original 1997 kit comes with the car, should the new owner wish to return it exactly to period. The car was meticulously restored to its original 1997 Vodafone Nissan Racing factory colours/graphics in 2013 by D&B Coachworks, running just one race since the work was carried out. It has clearly been loved and cherished by its passionate owner and is only being offered for sale to fund business expansion commitments. Being a 1997 car, it's interesting to note that, according to our vendor, the electric folding mirrors still work from the steering wheel and they were actually banned after the '97 season, along with the twin balanced 4-pot water-cooled brake callipers also in use for that season only. With several of these unique design features still present and working on the car, this '97 example is the one to own. Eligible for the Super Touring Car Championship, now being run by the HSCC, this car benefits from a very impressive new and used spares package that appears to contain all the bits you might need to run one of these cars effectively. Perhaps it's fair to say Super Tourers do require significant investment to run and maintain which is why you do not want to miss this opportunity as it certainly looks to offer all the support you might need during a competitively fought season. There is simply far too much to list here, but the vendor estimates that there is in the region of £40K worth including a completely dressed spare engine in its Nissan flight box, a collection that has been amassed over the last 13 years. Interested parties should contact Harry Whale on 01926 691141 to go through the parts included and to discuss some pit equipment and original Vodafone Nissan Racing team clothing that can be bought outside of this lot listing after the auction. Altogether, a very serious package.

1999 Ford Focus WRC Rally Car - Ex-Colin McRae

Lot # 220 (Sale Order: 20 of 30)

* Driven on 11 rounds of the World Rally Championship - four by legendary Colin McRae* Used by McRae and his co-driver Nicky Grist on the '99 Rally Catalunya bearing registration 'S10 FMC'. * With its original 'gold book' FIA technical passport and UK V5c for 'S32 OTR'* Plain white enabling the new owner to apply a choice of appropriate graphics including 'Martini ' colours* An important car in WRC history The World Rally Championship as we know it began in 1973 and consisted of 13 events held in countries around the globe. In its inaugural year, some 20 car manufacturers competed for the Championship, including the Ford Motor Company with their challenger the Escort RS1600, but competition was fierce and Alpine-Renault became the season's champion. The marque was represented throughout rest of the 1970s and 80s, not always by the factory, but quite often by private teams such as David Sutton Cars with now legendary drivers like Ari Vatanen at the wheel securing them many successes. After the 'Group B' rally era came to an end, Ford was fortunate to secure the driving services of both Malcolm Wilson and Frenchman Francois Delecour and by 1993 were back with a full-factory backed team utilising the talents of the Escort RS Cosworth. From the 1997 season onwards Ford's WRC programme was run by Malcolm Wilson himself and his well versed M-Sport squad from their base in Cumbria. The Escort RS Cosworth was run for a further two years before Ford was able to debut the Focus WRC in 1999.Built in utmost secrecy, and codenamed C170, the Focus WRC was based upon the well-engineered road-car, which boasted a 10% stiffer bodyshell than that of its predecessor, the Escort. Housing a new Ford Zetec E 16V turbocharged engine, other areas of the car were also greatly improved making it a compact and nimble contender. Along with a new car for the '99 season, Ford had also managed to lure away the 1995 World Rally Champion, Colin McRae, from Subaru at a reported sum of £6 million over two years - making him the highest earning rally driver in history. Always a favourite amongst rally fans due to his 'if in doubt, flat out' driving style, McRae won 25 WRC events in his career and in doing so, etched his name into motorsport folklore. We are pleased to offer this 1999 Ford Focus WRC, chassis ending #68335, which was first registered to M-Sport Ltd. and used by Colin McRae and his co-driver Nicky Grist on the '99 Rally Catalunya bearing registration 'S10 FMC'. Unfortunately, the rally ended in retirement for the pairing and the car was used at the next round in France at the Rally Tour De Corse where they were more competitive finishing 4th overall. McRae drove #68335 at two further WRC rounds in the '99 season namely; Rally Acropolis and Rally China, whilst it was also used by his teammate Thomas Radstrom at the rounds in New Zealand and Australia. For the 2000 season, the car was upgraded and used on two rounds by emerging talent Petter Solberg. In total, the car took part in 11 rounds of the World Rally Championship before it was sold to a private team and used on national events around Europe. Our vendor was able to purchase this car in 2007 and has used the Focus on many events over the last few years across the UK and Europe, the last of which was the Rallye National de la Lys in France in 2017.Now wearing registration 'S32 OTR' the car will be supplied with a UK V5c and its original FIA 'Gold Book' World Rally Car technical passport. At the time of sale, it will be presented in plain white livery allowing the car's new owner to add its famous 'Martini' colours at a later date. Rally cars of this calibre rarely come to market and this unique offering has the advantage of being associated with the late, great Colin McRae.

1986 Bowlby Suzuki SC100

Lot # 221 (Sale Order: 21 of 30)

* The first race car that was designed and built by Ben Bowlby, in 1985. Must be seen to be appreciated* Fully rebuilt by Simon Green Motorsport in 2014* Brand new 1100cc ZZR Kawasaki unit supplied by Radical, at a cost of £2,160, fitted with modified sump and oil system* In excellent race-prepared condition. Full details on the website This is the first race car that was designed and built by Ben Bowlby, in 1985/6, which he raced with considerable success in Special Saloons from 1986 on. The car is likely to be eligible for the CSCC Special Saloon and Modsports Series or could be used in speed events, or track days. During the time that Ben was racing and developing the car, Channel 4 did a documentary about Ben titled 'The nuts and bolts of Ben Bowlby' with Ben visiting Frank Durney at Lotus to discuss the car's aerodynamics. This and more are on DVD in the history file. Also, there is a YouTube clip of the car being driven in 2014, search Richard Tipper.Amongst the design innovations incorporated by Ben were the motorcycle engine, flat floor, diffuser, adjustable front splitter and a ride height levelling system, which was soon banned. Ben went on to climb the motorsport design and engineering ladder, working for Lola and Ganassi and has become particularly well known as the designer and promoter of the Delta Wing Project sports racing car. This sports racer has involved Panoz, Ganassi and Nissan, and the cars have raced extensively in America, as well as at Le Mans.In the early 1990's, the SC100 was raced by a number of drivers including Erling Jenson, Paul Brend and Derek Barrett. The car was always regarded as seriously quick for a 1.0-litre car and held the Class 'C' lap record for many years at Castle Combe, as well as being the first 1.0-litre car to lap the Wiltshire circuit in under 60 seconds, an average speed of over 100mph. Throughout the late 1990's and early 2000's, the car still made occasional race appearances but its outright pace was being eclipsed by the newer generation of club 'prototypes' such as Radical and Juno.In 2010, the car was bought by Richard Tipper. He commissioned Simon Green Motorsport to carry out a full rebuild of the car. The engine was removed and all suspension components stripped down, all rose joints checked over and replaced. The wishbones were media blasted, crack tested and then powder coated. The chassis was stripped back, and all welds crack tested before painting in gloss black. The wheel bearings were replaced as were the driveshafts and UJs. The exhaust system was fully ceramic coated along with new carbon race exhausts. The car has since passed the noise limit restrictions at a Bedford Autodrome track day.A brand new 1100cc ZZR Kawasaki unit was supplied by Radical, at a cost of £2,160, fitted with their modified sump and oil system. This engine has been run after installation in the car but not on track and it needs running-in.New front and rear sections of bodywork were made from the original moulds and the old wooden-based front splitter and rear diffuser were re-made in carbon fibre and aluminium. Lastly, carbon fibre infills were made to cover the side pod section, as well as to reduce flex in this area. The moulds will be passed to the new owner, along with some old and original bodywork, a set of wheels with wet tyres plus some other parts including the original final drive unit made by Ben, which was replaced by a Quaife CD axle unit in 2005 (cost £2,150). The car was purchased by our vendor at our Silverstone Classic Race Car Sale in July 2016 but other commitments have precluded its use and, due to a change of circumstances, he has decided that someone else should take it on.Offered without reserve, this car represents a rare opportunity to buy a unique car conceived by a truly innovative designer early in his career development. This amazing little car must be seen to be appreciated and is offered in excellent race prepared condition. Not to be missed!

Can quite quickly be changed to Atlantic specFounded By Eric Broadley with the introduction of the Lola MKI in 1958 Lola Cars Ltd. has become the longest established race car manufacturer in Great Britain. The ability to diversify across several classes showed the technical expertise of Lola's founder allowing them to dominate for almost a generation. By the mid-seventies, Lola, with their Formula 2, Formula Atlantic and 2.0-litre Sportscars were the class of the field and, as sponsorship became the norm, things went from strength to strength. Offered here is the beautifully prepared Lola T360 # HU18 sponsored, in period, by Wella and driven by Ted Wentz in 1975. Wentz had won the Wella sponsored Formula Ford Championship in 1973. and they continued to support him. In 1975, when his Lola T360 #HU07 was written off in testing by Roy James (of Great Train Robbery fame) Lola loaned him #HU18. For the 1976 British Formula Atlantic Series HU18 went on to be driven for the first two rounds at Brands Hatch by Tony Trimmer, winning on both occasions and for the remainder of the season by Mike King. ( Full results on file). After the 1976 season, HU18 was sold to Carl Liebich in Canada who campaigned the car in the 1977 Labatts Canadian Formula Atlantic series and the 1978 and 1979 North American Formula Atlantic series. In the records for 1977 and 1978, HU18 is listed as a T460. It is unclear at this stage as to whether it had been fully converted to T460 specification or not. It is interesting to note that in 1979 it is listed as Lola T560 (460-HU18) as the factory upgrades were added. The history file contains all the race results from Trois Rivieres in September 1977 through to Long Beach in March 1980.HU18 was finally returned to the UK having been purchased by Steve Maxted and with the help of Colin Poole, they undertook the complete restoration of the chassis and car fitting a new 2-litre Cosworth BDG engine intending to run the car in Formula 2 specification. Finished in time for the 2006 Silverstone Classic, Steve raced the car until it was purchased by its current owner. Recently the wishbones were crack tested and all the rose joints replaced and the car has not raced since. The BDG was rebuilt by Geoff Richardson two races ago. The rear wing supports and rear frame/engine mounts are all fresh as well. The car comes with an extensive usable running spares package which includes 7 wheels (4 x wets + 2 x rear slick and 1 x front slick), wheel nut socket and brace, a gear ratio box with 19 ratios, 2 sets of new Pagid pads, exhaust silencer, 3 pairs of springs, new oil filter, new thermostat, rear wing post, left and right rear subframe, engine cradle/mounts, nose section, 2 steering wheels, new and used timing and fuel pump belts, etc... a full list is available by request. Accompanied by a complete history file with its current FIA paperwork, race results, set up sheets drawings and invoices. Eligible for Historic F2, Peter Auto F2, HSCC's Derek Bell Trophy, and can quite quickly be changed to Formula Atlantic specification. This a very well sorted Lola T360, prepared to a very high standard with a full and impressive timeline and history. This is the Lola to have, ready to go and offered at a very realistic guide.

1960 Elva Mk.V Sports racer.

Lot # 223 (Sale Order: 23 of 30)

* A rare and important car. Number 11 of the 13 Mk.Vs built. Lots of history* Only six running hours since a full, nut and bolt, restoration by Michael Clifford in Connecticut* Needs a harness, period windscreen, and some other small details to qualify for an FIA Passport* Superbly presented in an 'American' colour scheme. Wouldn't take much to return it to 'period' coloursClub racing in the early fifties was cheap and cheerful, with many 'specials' constructed by innovative enthusiasts looking for maximum performance at minimum cost. One such enthusiast was Frank G. Nichols. Having left the Army with a gratuity and some mechanical skills, he bought a small garage business at Westham in 1947. This was successful and he moved to another bigger garage in London Road, Bexhill where there was a good local following for motorsport After gaining experience in a Lotus VI, he ordered a 'CSM' from a Mike Chapman (no relation to Colin), achieved some notable successes particularly at Goodwood, and attracted attention from like-minded enthusiasts. He was shrewd enough to realise that this potent little car could be further improved and marketed, and very soon he was able to produce a similar chassis. At one meeting at Goodwood, a French enthusiast, impressed with the speed of Frank's car commented “Elle Va” which translates as 'she goes' and shortly afterwards the Elva Sports Car Company, based in Hastings, was formed. Unfortunately, a few years later, financial problems directly attributable to the failure of their U.S. distributor and a large number of their 'Courier' road cars being impounded overseas, resulted in Elva being forced into liquidation and being sold to Trojan in 1961. Production was relocated to Rye, Sussex, and again in 1966 to the main Trojan factory in Croydon. In 1965 Ken Sheppard from 'Customized Sports Cars' of Shenley, purchased Elva from Trojan, but sadly production ended in 1968.The ultimate front-engined, drum-brake Elva sports racer was the small displacement Mk.V. and thirteen examples were produced. They were powered by the Coventry-Climax FWB single overhead camshaft engine, and they were remarkably competitive, outhandling Chapman's Lotus 11 at most circuits here, in Europe, and the United States. This particular Elva Mk.V is chassis number 100/101 and was the eleventh car built. Unusually for an older racing car, the History File is pretty comprehensive from new staring with the car being imported in the USA by Elva distributor Stephens Motors and purchased by R Davis. Mr Davis owned and raced it for several years with some success even winning the SCCA Cal Club 'D' championship in 1964. It then became the property of its second owner, Mr G Clark, who raced it for a number of years before storing the car prior to being purchased in 1988 by Mr B McCaw. Mr McCaw owned the car for almost a decade before, in turn, selling it to Don Kruzan, head of the Elva Register, who apparently sold it back to the previous owner in 2002.At this point, a full restoration was commenced and over the next four years 'Michael Clifford Vintage Racing', a British sports racing car specialist near Connecticut, was tasked with returning the little Elva to full health. The car needed a complete nut and bolt rebuild and was returned to factory original specification fitted with a correct 1220cc Climax engine. Since restoration, the car has only seen occasional use at the Monterey Historic Races in 2007 and the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in 2008 and 2009.The Elva was purchased by our vendor in 2011 with the intention of obtaining FIA papers and competing at Goodwood, however other commitments have taken priority and, sadly, it has not turned a wheel in anger since.Despite the car having had little use prior to purchase in 2011, with just 6 hours of running time on the car, engine and gearbox, we would recommend having the car professionally checked over before use and most obviously the fitting of a racing seat and harness. Whilst the owner believes it would obtain FIA papers if fitted with a period-correct full-width windscreen, we cannot confirm this. This Elva looks fabulous in Red and Yellow with distinctive yellow Elva web wheels and has clearly been well restored and prepared. This is a rare car, nicely rejuvenated, and with Goodwood eligibility and front-running capability, at today's guide, it is surely one of the most economical ways to be competitive in International historic motorsport.
