2006 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG (R230)

Lot # 125 (Sale Order: 26 of 101)

  • Civilised supercar performance sprinkled with some AMG magic dust

  • At launch, the 5.5-litre V8 engine propelled the car to 62mph in 4.2 seconds

  • Finished in Iridium Silver with an Alpaca Grey leather interior. 18" AMG multi-spoke alloys

  • Six Mercedes-Benz service stamps, most recent at Mercedes-Benz Swansea on 31/05/2019 at 24,605 miles

  • Extensive spec from new. Bose sound system, CD-changer, Keyless-Go, Carbon trim

  • Accompanied by all the book packs, older MOTs, service receipts and both keys

Introduced in 2002, after some five years in development, the R230 Series SL Roadster was an engineering 'tour de force'. Painstakingly modelled on a state-of-the-art supercomputer which enabled the designers to analyse every curve and line, it looked utterly sensational with an air of barely contained aggression that gave it huge road presence. Packed full of sophisticated electronic driver aids which made it immensely safe but also fun to drive, it was an instant hit with press and public alike and is widely considered to be the best-looking Mercedes for many years. The power-operated aluminium folding roof was particularly admired and would disappear into the top of the boot at the press of a button in just 16 seconds, yet still leave enough room underneath for 206 litres of luggage space. It was in 2003 that the stunning looking SL55 AMG version was introduced. Seriously powerful and massively fast, the 5.4-litre engine gave 476 BHP and a tree stump pulling 520lbs/ feet of torque!

This lovely, low mileage SL55AMG was first registered on 1-09-2006. It's finished in Iridium Silver with an Alpaca Grey leather interior and was heavily spec'd from new including; Cruise Control, Parktronic, Voice Activation, Ventilated front seats, COMAND navigation, climate control. 18" AMG multi-spoke alloys, Bose sound system, CD-changer, Keyless-Go, Carbon trim and much more resulting in a purchase price of £89,113.12. We understand that it's third owner added the car to his extensive collection in September 2011 and it has been lightly used until recently. The service records indicate that it was serviced at 2,680, 5,993, 8,300, 13,247, 23,918 and most recently at 24,605 miles on 31-05-19, all by Mercedes-Benz dealers. Invoices detailing these A and B Services and any additional work carried out are in the history file alongside the V5c, previous details of Cherished Number transfers, older MOTs and the current MOT valid until 12-05-2021. The odometer currently reads 24,968 miles. The Mercedes-Benz book pack is complete and both sets of keys are there.

This SL55 AMG presents really, really well and appears almost unmarked. The engine bay appears showroom fresh and the whole car has patently been looked after. Ballistically quick, fabulous looks, continent covering pace, yet as civilised in town as a Toyota Corolla, it's no wonder that some supercar owners tend to get a little upset.

2013 BAC Mono

Lot # 126 (Sale Order: 27 of 101)

  • The ultimate track car. Carbon fibre body and weighs just 540kg

  • Powered by a 2.3-litre, Ford Duratech-based four-cylinder Cosworth producing 285 bhp at 7700 rpm

  • Impressive power/weight of 525 bhp per tonne. 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph

  • A very early example. Just over 7,000 miles. Recent expenditure at Joe Macari inc. a health check, service and a set of Kumo V70s

Created by the Briggs Automotive Company in Liverpool, the BAC Mono is undoubtedly the ultimate track car. It's a lightweight, ultra-high performance, road legal, supercar designed and manufactured using racing technology that set a new benchmark when launched in the small but elite market segment of radical, lightweight extreme track cars. The steel chassis is clothed in a carbon fibre composite inspired by the construction principles employed so effectively in DTM race cars. The single central-seat layout gave the designers and engineers a blank canvas freeing them from the constraints of having to design an aerodynamic body shape that could comfortably enclose two people sitting side by side.

The Mono is powered by a heavily modified Ford Duratec, a 2.3-litre, four-cylinder Cosworth engine producing 285 bhp at 7700 rpm and, weighing just 540 kg, this results in a staggering, supercar beating, 525 bhp per tonne power to weight ratio. The 6-speed sequential gearbox is operated via paddles on the steering wheel through a hydraulic clutch. From a standing start, 62mph arrives in just 2.8 seconds and the top speed is an attention focussing, 170 mph. At the time of its launch, the 2.3-litre Mono immediately bested the Ariel Atom V8 and Mclaren MP4-12C, and was second only to the Pagani Huayra as the record-holder at the Top Gear test track.

The Mono on offer here is a very early example and has covered just a little over 7,000 miles in its short life. On file is the original spec-sheet and this special ‘personal Formula One car' has recently enjoyed £4,500 worth of expenditure at Joe Macari. There is an invoice on file detailing the work, which included a new set of Kumo V70 tyres, a health check and a full service. Now looking fabulous in a distinctive shade of Pistachio Green, this Mono has an MOT valid until August this year and is offered to auction at a competitive guide price. Offering truly amazing performance this is surely an irresistible proposition for the true track day enthusiast.

2003 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

Lot # 127 (Sale Order: 28 of 101)

  • Very desirable V12, manual gearbox, DB7 with just three former keepers

  • Supplied by Stratstone of Wilmslow on 28/02/2003 in Tungsten Silver with Obsidian leather

  • Full Aston Martin service history (13 stamps) up until 2016 at 43,481 miles

  • Three specialist services since, the most recent at 47,780 miles in September 2019

  • The current indicated mileage is just over 48,000. Full book pack, service book and spare key

  • New tyres, freshly serviced and the MOT is valid until early October 2020

Aston Martin introduced the long-awaited Vantage version of their successful DB7 in 1999. Sporting a Cosworth-designed, 5.9-litre V12 producing a creamy 420bhp, the car was super-quick and was electronically limited to 185mph. The V12 had a serious appetite for air compared to its 6-cylinder predecessor, demanding a larger intake and other modifications to the frontal airflow were made to aid cooling. Other changes included chassis and braking upgrades to cope with the increased performance, and Ian Callum enlarged the grille, added fog lamps, and restyled the valances to give the car a more purposeful look.

This superb example is a V12 Vantage with the very desirable six-speed manual gearbox and was originally supplied by Stratstone of Wilmslow on 28/02/2003 in Tungsten Silver with Obsidian leather. It has been enjoyed by three previous owners and the service records indicate that it's been regularly serviced with 17 stamps in the book, the vast majority by AM, with the most recent by a marque specialist on 18-9-2019 at 47,780 miles. The current MOT is valid until 6-10-2020 and the car is accompanied by the original green leather owner's guide including the service records, the V5C, an MOT History supporting the current mileage of just over 48,000 and a spare key.

Front-engined, V12 manual Grand Tourers have seen mounting investor interest over the last few years and this impressively presented DB7 Vantage with its ageless looks, sophisticated colour combination, manual gearbox, immaculate service history and sensible mileage, seems remarkable value for money.

1984 Aston Martin V8 Series 4 'Oscar India'

Lot # 128 (Sale Order: 29 of 101)

  • Purchased new by its first and only registered keeper on 07/03/1984 via Aston Martin Sales Ltd

  • The owner, the Chairman of the National Bank of Dubai, kept the car at home in London

  • Delivered in Salisbury Blue coachwork with Magnolia hide and automatic transmission

  • Chiltern Aston Martin lightly recommissioned the car in 2016 at a cost of £16,670

  • Warranted mileage of just 10,550 supported by a comprehensive history file

  • Original owners handbook/service records, AM Heritage Certificate, warranty card, maintenance and service invoices

  • A rare opportunity to purchase an unmolested, low mileage AM V8 in one of the best colour combinations

One could describe the Aston Martin V8 Series 4, often titled 'Oscar India' (October Introduction in phonetics), as the 'Mustang that went to Eton'. The exterior, particularly the front, may have had a touch of the Mustang about it but the interior was unmistakably Mayfair. The first Aston Martin in decades to combine sumptuous Connolly leather and polished Walnut facings, the interior of the Oscar India, launched in 1978, provided the driver with all of the comforts of the era and the grunt of the legendary Tadek Marek-designed V8.

Compared to the contemporary exotica on offer from Italy, Aston's V8 would cruise unassumingly, with only the burble and the occasional pop from the twin exhausts on the overrun alluding to the turn of speed available under the discreetly bulging bonnet. Few cars genuinely suit an automatic gearbox but the standard Aston V8 is a car that perfectly mates the 5.3-litre V8 to the Chrysler-derived 3-speed Torqueflite automatic gearbox. Gears change with barely a quiver and the kick-down operates without fuss.

Purchased new by its first owner and only registered keeper, the Chairman of the National Bank of Dubai, through Aston Martin Sales Ltd., it was delivered on the 06/03/1984 in Salisbury Blue with Magnolia hide, Beige (Onslow) carpeting and automatic transmission. It was maintained by the Aston Martin Works Service department at Newport Pagnell for many years with service invoices on file from 1986, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1993, by which time the mileage read just 8,696 miles. In keeping with the demands on the time of an international businessman with a substantial collection, the car was little used but correctly stored in a temperature-controlled garage at his residence in Bishops Avenue, one of London’s best-known and desirable addresses.

The car was latterly maintained by Aston Martin specialist Ian Mason until 2016 when Chiltern Aston Martin were instructed to lightly recommission the car at a cost of £16,670 for various works which included reconditioning the radiator, new coolant hoses, new inlet manifold, vacuum hoses, new front wheel bearings, re-bushed front suspension, rear brake servos, overhauled steering rack and a major service. With the first owner's recent passing, the Aston became available and is offered today as, effectively, a one-owner car, indeed the V5c still shows one registered keeper. The odometer indicates just over 10,550 miles and it's presented to auction with an excellent history file which contains the original owner’s handbook, service book, warranty card, AM Heritage Certificate, invoices, tool kit and its current MOT.

To conclude, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most original, unmolested and well maintained Aston Martin V8s available. This car's superb condition, interesting provenance, comprehensive history and low mileage sets it apart and it's now ready to grace the finest of collections, or possibly do what V8 Astons do best and head for the open highway.

1998 Nissan Patrol GR TD-6 SE SWB Manual

Lot # 129 (Sale Order: 30 of 101)

  • A three-door SWB GR SE-spec superbly finished in Morello Red over Grey Metallic

  • Fitted with the smooth and powerful, 2.8-litre, intercooled, I-6 turbo diesel

  • One owner on Jersey until first registration in the UK during January 2020

  • Has never had a tow bar fitted or even been off-road. Used as a family car rather than a 4x4

  • Full book pack, four main dealer stamps, most recent by Nissan Swansea 10/02/2020

  • There are unlikely to be any other Patrols from this era in this condition anywhere

It's hard to believe that in one form or another, the Nissan Patrol has been around for over forty years. It's come a long way. Whereas it used to be a touch agricultural, the Patrol has evolved into a 4x4 that's not short of creature comforts. Post-1997 Patrol models can be identified by their 'GR' trim designation and were exclusively diesel-engined with the SE-spec cars taking the model even further upmarket.

This superb, fifth-generation (Y61) Patrol is a rare 3-door SE powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder producing 128bhp and mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It's very attractively finished in Morello Red over Grey Metallic and sits on a set of unmarked silver alloys wearing an equally smart set of Maxxis Bravo AT 771 tyres. It was first registered on 29/10/1998 and remained in Jersey with its original owner until arriving in the UK in January 2020. During its time in Jersey, it was used lightly as a family car, never having a tow bar fitted and never having been off-road. Its owner was obviously proud of his Patrol and looked after it fastidiously as it remains in unbelievable original untouched condition, easily confused with a brand new car inside, out and underneath. The engine bay would be at home in a showroom and even the tyres have the branding picked out in white paint. We believe that it's highly unlikely that there are any other Patrols from this era in this condition anywhere.

It's accompanied by its original book pack with the Owner's Manual, Service Schedules, Dealer List, Alarm Manual, the current MOT valid until 10/02/2021 and the Maintenance Record showing four main dealer stamps, the most recent of which was by Nissan Swansea on 10/02/20 at 29,170 miles. We welcome any inspection of this remarkable vehicle.

1999 Ferrari 360 Modena F1

Lot # 130 (Sale Order: 31 of 101)

  • Right-hand drive, UK car originally supplied by Graypaul in Loughborough on 01/10/1999

  • Fitted with the 6-speed, electro-hydraulic, F1 gearbox and finished in Rosso Corsa with Rosso-piped Crema hide

  • A staggering 400bhp from the 3586cc V8. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 186mph

  • 7,595 warranted miles from new supported by a comprehensive service history

  • Full Ferrari book pack in unmarked condition. Spare Key. MOT valid until 19/04/2021

  • Truly immaculate with a detailed history, one of the most attractive 360 Modenas we have ever seen

In 1999, Ferrari knew that it was time to replace their much loved 355 and consequently the 360 was introduced to critical acclaim and immediately set a new benchmark for supercar styling and performance. The 360 Modena design was revolutionary, making extensive use of lightweight materials in its construction resulting in a much lighter car along with substantially increased rigidity. Ferrari also paid particular attention to improving the under-body aerodynamics using knowledge gained from their F1 programme and the 360 boasts a completely flat bottom with two prominent rear diffusers.

The 3586cc engine produced a staggering 400bhp, resulting in a 0-60 time of just 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 186mph, and the Pininfarina designed bodyshell presented an exceptionally clean, low-drag profile without the need for additional wings, flares or blisters. Another striking feature is the large glass rear screen that proudly displays the engine in all its glory. Introduced at the Geneva Show in March 1999 the 360 Modena, not unsurprisingly, swelled Ferrari's order books and within weeks there was a two-year waiting list.

Originally supplied by Graypaul in Loughborough to Kevin Hurcum in Kent on 1-10-1999, this right-hand drive, 360 Modena is finished in Rosso Corsa with Rosso-piped Crema hide and Scuderia Wing Shields and was ordered with the 6-speed, electro-hydraulic, 'F1' gearbox. At the time of cataloguing, the Ferrari had covered a total of 7,595 miles, a figure corroborated by a full collection of MOT Certificates and Acknowledgements of SORN. The service history is as you would expect from such a cherished example and the Service Book details that it was serviced on 9/05/01 (H.R.Owen) at1,306 miles, 23/04/03 at 3,975 miles (cambelts) Graypaul, 25/05/04 Graypaul at 4,614 miles, 12/07/07 Terry Keys at 6,506 with cambelts and ball joints and 11/02/2020 (Graypaul) at 7,569 with cambelts. The current MOT dates from 20-04-2020 (7,583 miles) and is valid until 19-04-2021. It doesn't appear to have needed much mechanical attention over the years, apart from routine servicing, but those few invoices that are in the history file are from the best names, Graypaul, Lancaster, Terry Keys and JCT600.

The tan leather Ferrari wallet that accompanies the car is as immaculate as the rest of the car and contains the Owner's Manual, Owner's Warranty and Service Book, Alarm System Manual, Hi-fi System Manual, Hi-Fi Warranty, Ferrari UK Warranty, Ferrari Assistance paperwork, Ferrari Dealers List, the original Ferrari Torch and spare keys.

Truly immaculate, with a detailed history, and sensibly guided, this is one of the most attractive 360 Modenas we have ever seen.

1992 Vauxhall Lotus Carlton

Lot # 131 (Sale Order: 32 of 101)

  • Conceived by General Motors as a high-performance flagship for its European Marques

  • 3.6-litre, straight-six with twin turbochargers producing 377bhp and 419lb/ft. 6-speed ZR1 box

  • Superbly-balanced rear-drive chassis, limited-slip differential and ventilated discs

  • Dating from June 1992, Number 811 is one of only 284 right-hand drive Lotus Carltons produced

  • The Imperial Green Pearlescent paint retains a deep shine. Superb Anthracite leather

  • Comprehensive service history from new. Fastidiously maintained. Refreshed early last year

  • Less than 100,000 miles, MOT valid until January and in remarkable condition

The legendary Lotus Carlton is the kind of car that comes along once in a generation. At a time when really fast four-door saloons were the preserve of BMW and Mercedes, this Vauxhall (Opel) derived 'super-saloon' arrived on the scene demolishing the opposition. Oddly, it wasn't its huge performance or masculine good looks that created the most fuss, but the fact that the Daily Mail was so outraged by its stated top speed of 176mph, that it declared it too fast for British roads. Of course, the Lotus Carlton - or Type 104 to Lotus aficionados - was nothing of the sort, and although it shared its major components with a mainstream executive car, its level of development across every aspect of automotive dynamics had resulted in a truly special performance car.

It was powered by a twin-turbo version of the venerable straight-six used in the range-topping Senator, which developed a remarkable 377bhp. To achieve that figure, Lotus had put a lot of work into the 3.6-litre power unit, uprating and strengthening the bottom end, porting the 24-valve cylinder head (from the Carlton GSI), and fitting forged 'slipper' pistons made by Mahle atop new Lotus-designed connecting rods tied to a counterweighted, forged steel crankshaft. The gearbox was the same six-speeder used in the Corvette ZR-1, the only transmission in GM's parts bin, capable of handling the car's monster torque. AP 'Group C' derived brakes - four-pot calipers with 330mm ventilated discs at the front and two-pot at the rear - sat behind specially developed Goodyear tyres.

Performance was brisk, to say the least. 0-60mph came up in 5.0 seconds, 0-100 was dispatched in 11.1 seconds and in 1992, Autocar Magazine recorded a time of 17.0 seconds for their 0-100-0 challenge, 2nd best behind an F40, however, it's the car's maximum speed of 176mph that will always be quoted by its fans.

Lotus Carlton (SCC0000019N1231798) was 'Signed from Production' on 23/06/1992 and granted Limited Edition Number 0811G. In common with every other Carlton, it was finished in Imperial Green pearlescent with Anthracite Connolly leather and despatched to Frosts (Cars) Ltd. in Shoreham-by-Sea who registered the car (K909 MFG) to its first owner on 14/01/93. Within the History File is the Lotus Carlton Maintenance Programme (Service Book) which contains a stamped Pre-delivery Inspection by Frosts which is followed by a 1,000-mile service on 21/1/1993 at 851 miles and a 'First Main Service' on 2/8/1993 at 9,095 miles. Frosts carried out the car's 2nd Main Service in early 1994 and on 13/05/94, '811' was registered to Brian McMullan in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, NI. The following three services were carried out by Vauxhall Dealers (Carlton specialists) 'Savilles Auto Village' in Lisburn with the latest of these being on 15/04/96 at 43,547 miles.

It returned to England and was registered to Paul Nevill of Knebworth as K33 NEV on 26/07/96 and he enjoyed ownership of '811' until very recently. In March 2006, cherished registration K33 NEV was replaced with K909 MFG. Frosts of Shoreham returned to servicing the vehicle and carried out the next four services culminating with the 8th Main Service on 11/11/98 at 78,068 miles. Mr Nevill was obviously particularly fastidious as between early 1997 and January 2006 there are a total of 19 invoices from marque specialists for servicing, minor repairs and ongoing maintenance amounting to £14,995. The mileage at the most recent (27/01/2006) was 98,595 and the odometer reads 99,392 now so the car has covered less than 800 miles in the last 14 years having mainly been on SORN. In February 2019, '811' was refreshed by GB Autos of Colney with a bill for £1,652 and there is a very recent account (4/03/2020) fro

1985 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL (R107)

Lot # 132 (Sale Order: 33 of 101)

  • UK-supplied, right-hand drive R107 280 SL, indicating just 69,582 miles (atoc)

  • Delightfully presented in Cabernet Red Metallic with a matching factory hardtop

  • Superb interior in Cream Beige MB-Tex with unmarked Burr Walnut veneers

  • Smooth, fuel-injected straight-six producing 182bhp and 176lb/ft. 4-speed automatic box

  • With its original handbooks and service book along with a substantial history file. Serviced most recently at Mercedes-Benz

  • With Pagoda prices now out of reach, the equally stylish R107SL is a very attractive option

Some cars just get better looking with age and the R107 Series Mercedes-Benz SL is definitely among them. Overshadowed for a long time by its graceful ‘Pagoda' predecessor, it's now becoming better appreciated for what it is - a beautifully built sports roadster that is totally dependable. To this day, no car door closes with a more reassuring ‘thunk' than a Mercedes SL, and everything about the car suggests solid engineering. Fast, comfortable and discreetly understated, the SL has a matchless ability to munch up the miles for year after year without ever seeming to falter. No wonder it stayed in production, fundamentally unaltered, from 1971 until 1989 - the longest production run of any Mercedes car to date.

First registered in May ready for the summer of 1985, the original owners must have been rather pleased with their choice when they collected their gleaming new Cabernet Red Metallic Mercedes-Benz 280 SL, we imagine quickly driving home from the dealership to stow the factory hard-top on its stand at the back of the garage before setting off to enjoy open-top motoring at its very best. Today this example pleasingly continues to present well with the paintwork retaining a deep shine and the tasteful Cream Beige MB-Tex and Burr Walnut interior looking cared for. Clearly this SL has lived a pampered life and this is supported by a comprehensive history file with the most recent services carried out by a Mercedes-Benz main agent.

In our vendor's words ‘’On the road, she is a fine GT tourer with a lusty performance from the super twin-cam engine allied to the smooth four-speed auto gearbox’’.

It's supplied with the original books including the service booklet stamped up-to-date and the above-mentioned history file containing old MOTs and related invoices. Good, well looked after examples of the 107 are becoming increasingly difficult to source and, offered at a very realistic guide having covered less than 70,000 miles, we believe this lovely Mercedes represents superb value for money and, at the very least, will offer its new owner many years of enjoyable motoring.

The Elan is accompanied by its substantial history folder containing the relevant rebuild and preparation invoices and many documents supporting the car's history including the current V5c. This is a great opportunity to own a versatile little sixties sports car that has been professionally prepared for fast road, historic rallying or just having fun. It's always ideal when the previous owner has already invested, where needed, to get a car just right, leaving the new owner with nothing more than routine servicing and desire to pin the throttle wide open – a well-sorted Lotus Twin-Cam on full chat is music to any motoring enthusiasts ears.

1983 BMW Alpina B9 3.5 (E28) Manual

Lot # 138 (Sale Order: 39 of 101)

  • From Rock Legend, Jay Kay’s, amazing collection. Owned by Jay for the past nine years. One of his favourite cars

  • Very rare and desirable. One of only 64 UK-built, right-hand drive cars and one of only 18 with the Getrag 5-speed manual box

  • Classic Alpina bodywork with deep front splitter, boot lid spoiler, 16" Alpina wheels and ‘Deco Set’ graphics

  • 135,000 miles. E28 six-cylinder engines are known for their longevity. Excellent history, service records etc

  • Sounds and looks superb and at this guide price, combined with rock star provenance, this is a rare opportunity

This is one of 500 B9 3.5s (E28) built between 1981 and 1985 of which just 64 are understood to have been right-hand drive examples. Of the 64, 46 were supplied with ZF automatic transmission, with only 18 (including this car) being optioned with the far more desirable Getrag five-speed manual gearbox. Costing almost twice that of the BMW 528i SE (E28) on which it was based, the B9 3.5 offered huge power and performance increases over the standard car. Manual transmission B9 3.5s were easily the fastest saloon cars of their day. According to Autocar, 0-60mph required just 6.3 seconds and top speed was 153mph putting the E28-based Alpina on a par with Porsche’s then-current 911.

Left-hand drive examples were built by Alpina at Buchloe while right-hand drive production took place at Sytner in Nottingham. Cars destined for transformation were supplied by BMW with certain modifications already in place and then further enhanced with a long list of Alpina upgrades. The B9 engine had been developed from the unit used in BMW’s 635 and 735 variants. Uprated by Alpina with a gas-flowed cylinder head featuring hemispherical combustion chambers, bigger inlet valves and a gas-flowed inlet manifold, a 268-degree high-lift camshaft and balanced pistons enabled compression to rise from 9.3 to 10.2:1. Combined with revised fuel injection settings, a reprogrammed Bosch Motronic engine management system and Alpina twin-pipe exhaust system, the net result was a conservatively rated 245bhp at 5700rpm. The standard ZF automatic gearbox was retained (a Getrag 5-speed manual box was an option) and those cars destined to become B9s always came with a BMW-fitted 25% limited-slip differential that was further uprated with an Alpina-installed oil cooler. Suspension modifications saw progressive-rate coil springs and adjustable gas-filled Bilstein dampers fitted although the original front and rear anti-roll bars stayed. New Alpina 16-inch wheels measured 7-inches wide at the front and 8 at the rear (requiring a small modification to the rear wheel arch), these light alloy rims originally being shod with Pirelli P7 tyres.

Cosmetically the exterior was enhanced by Alpina’s deep front spoiler, a rubber boot lid spoiler and body-coloured door mirrors, the eye-catching Deco stripe kit being an optional extra. Early examples were supplied with an amazing interior, the figure-hugging Scheel bucket seats being upholstered in Alpina’s trademark grey fabric with blue and yellow stripes. Other bespoke features included an Alpina leather-rimmed four-spoke steering wheel, Alpina instrumentation, Alpina wooden gearknob and numbered dash plaque.

Offered here is a beautiful B9 3.5 Alpina that for the last 9 years has formed part of a significant collection belonging to rock legend Jay Kay. First registered on 27th October 1983, this rare UK-delivered right-hand drive example is believed to be one of just 18 B9s with a manual gearbox. 64 right-hand drive cars in total were upgraded by Sytner in Nottingham (Alpina's UK partner) to this specification most of which had been delivered from BMW with an automatic transmission. Indicating 134,756 miles at the time of cataloguing ‘A853 FRA’ presents very well, the black paintwork retains a deep gloss and the Alpina clothed Scheel sports seats are superb. Accompanying the car is the original book-pack and a substantial history file containing a wealth of old MOTs, invoices dating back to the mid-80s and some correspondence between the previous owner and Jay Kay, both clearly BMW enthusiasts. It appears that shortly after purchasing the B9, Jay Kay instructed a thorough inspection from a marque specialist with all areas requiring attention to be taken care of. Pleasingly, a customer copy of an invo

1982 Ferrari 512 BBi

Lot # 139 (Sale Order: 40 of 101)

  • 1 of only 42 UK-cars, single family-owned and very low mileage - the Holy Trinity

  • Delivered in June 1982 in right-hand drive, and classically finished in Rosso with Tan leather

  • 20,964 miles supported by a comprehensive history and service records

  • Always professionally maintained by a mix of Ferrari main agents and respected specialists

  • Substantial refresh in 1997 including full-body repaint and a 512TR clutch conversion

  • Rare, desirable, collectable and patently been cherished by a Father and Son from new

The streamlined, low and shapely lines of the 365 GT/4 Berlinetta Boxer, and its successor, the carburetted and subsequently fuel-injected 512, were to dictate the styling approach at Maranello for years to come. Launched to compete with the Lamborghini Muira and upgraded to compete with its successor, the Countach, the 'BB' was the first production Ferrari to be fitted with the boxer-type 12-cylinder engine derived from the Formula 1 unit of the period. The architecture was not that of the classic front-engined and rather upright, V12 Ferraris of old and it could be argued that the BB was the first 'proper' mid-engined Ferrari. The Boxer's moniker was derived from the fact that the cylinder banks form an angle of 180°, resulting in an engine with a flat, rectangular shape which enabled the car's centre of gravity to be lowered. The horizontally opposed pistons were said to resemble a pair of boxers alternating punches and the 'Boxer' nickname was to stick for this engine layout, even when used by other manufacturers. This low centre of gravity enabled the designers to pen the assertive stance that was to be typical of all future Ferraris.

The BBi was the final evolution of the Boxer and was launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1981. The styling was left largely unaltered, but the car now featured an advanced, and far more reliable, Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system offering 360bhp at 6,200 rpm, 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds and 179mph. Maranello's investment in mid-engine engineering ensured the BB's stylistic DNA was to be around until production of the Ferrari 328 ended in 1989, some 18 years since the launch of the original Boxer, the 365 BB. In the UK, just 42 right-hand drive versions of the BBi were ever imported making this model a very rare, desirable and collectable car.

This, best of breed, UK right-hand drive 512 BBi is one of those 42 cars and was supplied new by Colmore Depot of Birmingham on 16th June 1982 finished in the classic colour combination of Rosso with Tan leather. It has the distinction of being one family-owned from new as the original owner is our vendor’s father who has himself owned several significant Ferrari milestone cars over the years, including a Daytona, 308 GTS, 328 GTS and a 355 GTS which he still drives regularly at the age of 84!

Passing the car to his son in 1998, it has since been enjoyed on a number of UK and European tours over the years, whilst being professionally maintained by a mix of Ferrari main agents and respected specialists. The comprehensive history file includes all relevant service invoices and documentation from new, as well as details of a substantial restoration which took place in 1997. This included a full-body repaint and an engine-out service with a 512TR single plate clutch conversion ~giving a lighter feel to the clutch and a much-enhanced driving experience.

Today, the car has covered just 20,964 enjoyable and incident-free miles, making this one of the lowest mileage examples available and, looking at the photographs, it's clear to see that this is a very original car that's been cherished from new, well maintained and properly stored throughout its life. This is the first time that the family have ever offered the car for sale and, as such, it represents a very special opportunity for the discerning Ferrari enthusiast.

1991 Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolet

Lot # 140 (Sale Order: 41 of 101)

  • The 944 Turbo Cabriolet combined the Turbo S' 250bhp engine with the strengthened cabriolet body built by ASC at Weinsberg

  • Only 625 were built, with just 100 examples produced in right-hand drive for the UK, Japanese, Australian and South African markets

  • Classically finished in Guards Red with a Classic Grey (TT) leather interior and grey carpets throughout

  • Original and fully stamped Porsche Service Book plus numerous invoices for maintenance and previous MOT Certificates, helping support the indicated mileage

  • Factory stickers still in situ, two sets of keys and a complete book-pack suggest careful ownership

  • This is a simply lovely example of one of the rarest and most sought-after Porsches from the 1990s

Following the international success of their nimble 924, Porsche designed an all-alloy, 2.5-litre inline-four for their new 944 which they planned to introduce in 1982. Their talented engineers were able to produce a very smooth running four-cylinder engine by utilising two counter-rotating balance shafts running at twice engine speed. These carry eccentric weights which produce inertial forces that balance out the unbalanced secondary forces, all a bit technical but the result is a large four-cylinder engine that feels as turbine-smooth as a six.

Cosmetically, the 944's bodywork was revised with wider wheel arches (similar to that of the 924 Carrera GT), a fresh interior and upgrades to the brakes and suspension. With greater visual presence and the performance to match, better handling, stopping power and more creature comforts, the 944 was a natural step forward.

A 'turbo' version of the 944 was always on the cards, and the forced induction boosted the 2.5-litre engine by a healthy 60bhp, necessitating an upgraded clutch and gearbox. The chassis was further developed and thicker anti-roll bars and four-pot brake calipers were fitted to deal with the significantly increased performance. Externally, a smoother nose panel and a larger rear spoiler distinguished it from its lesser siblings.

In February 1991, the final year of 944 production, Porsche released the 944 Turbo Cabriolet which combined the Turbo S' 250bhp engine with the strengthened cabriolet body built by the ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg. Compared to the Coupé the Cabriolet's windscreen is lowered about 6cm and raked back to reduce the wind noise when the top is down. Porsche initially announced that 600 would be made, but ultimately 625 were built, with just 100 examples produced in right-hand drive for the UK, Japanese, Australian and South African markets. These are rare cars, produced for just one year, with only 32 examples believed to still reside in the UK.

Presented here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 944 Turbo Cabriolet supplied new by Porsche Centre-Strattons of Wilmslow Ltd. on the 1st August 1992. Finished in the ageless Porsche colour combination of Guards Red with a Classic Grey (TT) leather interior and grey carpets throughout, this car is in superb condition and has today covered just 50,000 miles (approx.). It was supplied with options 220: a limited-slip differential with 40% lockup with reinforced inner plates and molybdenum coated differential shafts (as standard), 233: tyre specification, 573: air-conditioning, 605: headlight aim control and 946: leather/ leatherette seats.

It was serviced by Porsche Centres (Strattons, Chariots, AFN) from 2,789 miles to 19,968 miles, and latterly by marque specialists. It's supplied with the original fully stamped Porsche Service Book, numerous invoices for maintenance, and older MOT Certificates, which help corroborate the indicated mileage. Now being sold from part of an enthusiast’s collection, this car has recently benefited from a full service (including cam-belt) in 2016. Bought by our vendor from a Porsche main dealer, unfortunately, a change in circumstances now means he must sell the car.

This fabulous, open-top, Porsche has obviously been well-maintained and presents, both mechanically and cosmetically, really well. Small but important details like factory stickers still in situ, two sets of keys and a complete book-pack help support its careful ownership. This is a simply lovely example of one of the rarest and most sought-after Porsches from the 1990s.

The 944, the 968 and even the 928 are seeing their value

1987 BMW M3 (E30) 'Competition Pack'

Lot # 144 (Sale Order: 45 of 101)

• Offered straight from the collection of rock legend and Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay• Original, German-supplied M3. Recently developed by Classic Heroes into ‘Competition spec’• Emphasis on turn-key usability, quick on track whilst comfortably driveable on the road• 2.5-litre competition engine. Circa 260bhp at the flywheel. Short-shift gear change• Sports suspension, AP front discs and calipers. 17” split-rim wheels. Presented in ‘works livery’• Recently prepared and run by Dansport for Jay at the Rally Isla Mallorca

The E30 M3 requires no introduction to the motoring enthusiast. It has the finest competition history of any tin-top racer and will go down in the record books as the single model to have won more international races, rallies and hill climb championships than any other car. Driven by legends such as Stuck, Cecotto, Ravaglia, Soper, Pirro, and Quester to name but a few. The road version has gone down in the history books as the most flattering saloon car chassis of all time. Offered straight from the amazing stable of rock legend and Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay, this car started life as an original road-going M3. More recently Classic Heroes were commissioned to develop this fabulous example into a competition car. The emphasis during this build was on turn-key usability and for it to remain comfortably drivable on the road as it was, naturally, essential to be quick and safe on track and occasionally driven long distances to a circuit. The owner wanted to use the car at events all over Europe and it had to fit in with his busy lifestyle with no dependency on tow bars and trailers! This M3 was originally supplied to Germany in 1987. The original engine is now a 2.5-litre competition unit with a balanced and lightened crank, rods, modified cylinder head, camshafts and converted to valve shim under the bucket. Running with a carbon airbox and programmable ECU, it now gives 260 bhp at the flywheel and also features a short shift gear-change, as well as an internal oil pressure gauge and Lambda gauge. Additionally, the car has sports suspension, competition rear shock top-mounts, negative camber front top-mounts, a front strut-brace, a rear strut-brace, poly-bushed suspension joints and a competition-ratio steering rack. AP competition front brake discs and callipers are fitted with competition rear brake pads and front brake ducting along with braided brake lines. The car sits on 17” BBS split-rims with wheel spacers and Toyo Proxes R888 R tyres. Finally, Recaro front seats with Schroth 6-point harnesses sit inside a 6-point, bolt-in Safety Devices roll cage with padding. The steering wheel is a Momo removable version with a Motorsport footrest and a competition fire extinguisher. Its looks are enhanced by carbon mirrors, a carbon Sport Evo rear spoiler and an Evo 2 front chin spoiler and it's presented in a works livery that can easily be removed if a more subtle track appearance is required. In January 2020, the car was entrusted to International Rally Engineers, Dansport of Chesterfield to be prepared for Jay to drive in Rally Isla Mallorca in March. Whilst in Dansport's care, they fitted a front lightbox and a Monit trip meter. Running as “Car Zero” at the front of the Legends rally, both car and driver were very competitive as can be seen in the video below this description. The car finished the event competitively and without incident and is presented today as it finished ~ turn-key and ready to be used again in sprints, hill climbs, stage rallies, or as a perfect track day car that can be driven to any event, yet still be competitive. And that sound...nothing comes close!

1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale

Lot # 145 (Sale Order: 46 of 101)

  • Very rare (1/1,366) 1300cc Giulietta Sprint Speciale with great provenance

  • 100bhp/120mph from the 1290cc double overhead cam, alloy block, straight-four. Remarkable

  • Correct 5-speed box, rare alloy wheels, upgraded front brakes and an oil cooler

  • Until recently part of a large UK private collection and maintained by their in-house mechanic

  • Eligible to race in a plethora of prestigious 'Blue Riband' events

  • 2015 FIA/MSA Historic Technical Passport (Period E 1947-61 Class GTS4) valid until 2025

  • Carta di Circolazione, CSAI Passaporto and Log Book, Classic Car Taxatie (Dutch valuation)

When Francesco Vittorio Scaglione moved to Turin in 1951 in pursuit of his dream to become a car stylist, he was fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of a young Nuccio Bertone, who had recently established his own design studio and body shop. Franco's first efforts were focussed on an Abarth 1500 and the svelte Siata 208CS followed by the dramatic BAT 5. In 1954, he styled the Alfa Sportiva Coupé and Spider, subsequently the superbly balanced Giulietta Sprint (aided and abetted by ex-Ghia, Mario Boano) and finally, the out-of-this-world BAT 7, a design that stops traffic now never mind 65 years ago. Scaglione’s output was prodigious with creative designs flowing from his fingertips onto the drawing board. In 1956, he penned the remarkable little Giulietta Sprint Speciale, an example of which we are offering here. It embodied his search for streamlined beauty and, despite the lack of computer-aided design, the car’s Coefficient of Drag was a tiny .28, scarcely troubling the surrounding air, and a figure that would not be bettered for 20 years.

In 1957, at the Turin Motor Show, a pre-production prototype of the SS was given a low-key debut to assess reaction and was particularly well-received, however, Alfa continued to tweak the design and displayed two further prototypes at later motor shows until, on June 24th 1959, the official press launch of the finalised design was held at Monza in the lovely Italian sunshine.

The new car was powered by an Alfa Romeo Twin Cam straight-four of 1290cc, with an aluminium-alloy engine block and cast-iron inserted sleeves. The 'crossflow' alloy head featured hemispherical combustion chambers and the double overhead camshafts were driven by two timing chains and acted on two valves per cylinder, angled at 80°. With 100bhp available and lightweight streamlined bodywork, this little car had a recorded maximum speed of 124mph, quite remarkable for a 1300.

Motorsport is part of the Italian DNA and Alfa were convinced that Scaglione’s incredibly ‘slippery’ design would offer success on the circuits and with the FIA requirement to produce 100 cars in order for the model to be ‘Homologated’, the first 101 cars produced had the "low nose” and 750SS designation. Whilst there were some all-aluminium cars produced, the majority of these cars had steel bodies with aluminium doors, engine bonnet and boot lid. After these initial cars, the Tipo 101.2 was introduced as a production road-going model and changes included steel doors, Weber 40 DCOE2 carburettors, a higher front nose, removal of Plexiglas windows, bumpers front and rear, and minimal sound-proofing. In total 1,366 1.3-litre, Giulietta SS were completed with production ending in 1965.

This charming Guilietta SS 1300 dates from early 1960 and was used as a road car until being converted to an historic racing car in Italy at some point in the past. During 2005, it was granted FIA papers (Period E /Class HGTS4) and in 2011, the little Alfa was imported to the UK to join a large private collection where it was campaigned by a prominent historic racer and carefully maintained by the collection’s personal mechanic. In 2015, it was fitted with new FIA seats and belts but, as always with any competition car, it is essential that a new owner satisfies himself as to the legality, validity and currency of any racing-related equipment. An MSA/FIA Historic Technical Passport (Racing and Hill-Climb) was issued in 2015 and is valid until the end of 2025.

The car is nicely prepared and has been well maintained with the bodywork, underneath, running gear and engine all appearing to remain in very good condition. It’s fitted with twin Weber DCOE2s, an oil

1968 Ford GT40

Lot # 146 (Sale Order: 47 of 101)

  • Built by the late Terry Drury who, whilst working at Ford (FAV), was involved with the development of the GT40 from the start

  • As a privateer, Terry owned and raced two original GT40s (#1005/#1073) during 1967/1968

  • The chassis has a number of fuel crossover features that date it as being an early example

  • The meticulous build during 2017/2018 utilised a huge number of original GT40 parts that he had acquired over the years

  • Fitted with a period-correct 'Works' 302 ci, four-bolt main bearing, Gurney-Weslake Ford V8 and a ZF Le Mans gearbox

  • When original parts weren't available from TDR's stock or couldn't be sourced worldwide, they were fastidiously remanufactured to the original specification

  • Correctly finished, trimmed and assembled with tremendous attention to period accuracy

  • A superb homage to TDR's two happy seasons with #1005 & #1073 just over 50 years ago

Following on from their success at Le Mans in 1966, Ford was not short of privateer teams wanting to purchase a GT40 and amongst those customers was Terry Drury, a former Ford engineer and well-respected figure in the world of international GT and saloon car racing. During 1967, he entered his Ermine White Ford GT40 #1005 for the Monza 1000 Kilometres in April sharing with Jackie Oliver, however, head gasket failure ended their race after just three laps. The next outing was the 'BOAC International 500', a six-hour race at Brands Hatch in which Terry shared #1005, now resplendent in Purple, with Keith Holland, qualifying 28th and finishing a respectable 14th in a field that today reads like a 'Who’s Who' of international racing drivers. In August 1968, Terry once again entered the BOAC International 500 sharing with Keith Holland but this time in his new car, #1073, however, falling oil pressure resulted in a premature exit. With the car repaired, it was off to the Nurburgring 1000 Kilometres in May this time sharing with Terry Sangar and finishing 35th (6th in Class). A week later the two Terrys headed for the Spa 1000 Kilometres with #1073, qualifying an excellent 11th before a broken clutch sadly ended the day.

The GT40 had a spot-welded sheet-steel monocoque, with square-tube stiffeners linking the scuttle to the nose, and a detachable framework supporting the tail against the riveted sheet steel and duralumin structure. There were also multi-tube frameworks at either end and these monocoques were built in Coventry. The early cars featured what became known as "fuel crossover" chassis which in period would have embodied two fuel crossovers between the left and right-side sill tanks, one passing through the dash section and the second via a rubber pipe passing under the driver's legs. Considered a bit risky, even at the time, the system was later changed and no replica or continuation chassis used a 'fuel crossover'.

With close ties to Ford and always requiring spares and running consumables, Terry Drury built up a very comprehensive spare parts stock including a 'Works' 302 cubic inch, four-bolt main bearing, Gurney-Weslake Ford V8 and a ZF Le Mans gearbox. The inventory, we understand, included a tub featuring the infamous fuel-cross over fabrications and it is believed that this spare monocoque was supplied to Terry after #1073 was damaged at Monza, however, the damage turned out to be less serious than initially thought and the new tub was put aside.

Fast forward some fifty years and after a lifetime in motorsport, it was decided that Terry Drury Racing would set about assembling their GT40 as an homage to #1005 and #1073, utilising many original parts, and the period Gurney-Weslake and ZF-1 gearbox. As the project started, Silverstone Auctions were invited to the TDR premises and to view the etch-primed bare monocoque, still tight as a drum, and discuss with Terry the build specification and the plethora of original works parts that would be incorporated in the build.

A new wiring loom to the original specification was used, however, original factory connector plugs for the front and rear bodywork are used. The steering column and rack are original items together with refurbished tie-rods. The steering column flasher stalk is original, as are the Lucas switches and warning lights. Both the heated screen and the original wiper motor mechanism operate and the ventilation system on the dash

1974 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster

Lot # 147 (Sale Order: 48 of 101)

  • Original UK-supplied, right-hand drive, matching numbers V12 with a manual gearbox and only 34,706 miles from new

  • Splendidly presented in Signal Red, tinted windows, soft black hide and chrome wire wheels

  • Rare, factory-painted in Signal Red, 'works' hardtop recently professionally restored

  • Fastidiously maintained, upgraded and fully detailed by our knowledgeable vendor

  • Around 6,000 miles in the last four years including two London to Brighton runs

  • "Retro Car of the Show" from over 800 classics at TECA (Aberdeen) in September 2019

  • Series 3 cars continue to strengthen in the market and this superb example may offer an excellent investment opportunity

According to its Heritage Certificate, this lovely Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12, OTS was built to UK right-hand drive specification, fitted with a manual gearbox and tinted windows and finished in Signal Red with soft black hide, a black Mohair soft top and, unusually, a factory hardtop also finished in Signal Red. We understand that the optional ‘works’ hardtops were always painted in black, however, there were one or two influential customers who persuaded Jaguar otherwise and, apparently, this is one of two finished in Signal Red. We also understand that it was fully treated with Ziebart Protection from new.

The car’s date of manufacture is listed as 26/10/1973 and it was duly despatched to the supplying dealer, Leigh Park Motors of Datchet, on 14/12/73. With appropriate ceremony, it was handed over in early January 1974 to its excited new owner who was the first of six registered keepers. There is a timeline of ownership with parts of old V5s in the history file and from that, we can establish that the second owner enjoyed the V12 for 28 years with a later owner keeping it for an eight-year period.

Originally the underside of the bonnet had been Ziebart protected but, in addition to adding unnecessary weight, it quickly becomes unsightly so a previous owner had the bonnet off and washed the underside in petrol regularly for a week in order to remove all the black Ziebart from the underside leaving the bonnet paintwork completely original. At the same time as the bonnet was off, the engine was removed, the space frame repainted, and the rear engine seal and clutch were replaced. There is an invoice in the file detailing this work which was carried out at circa 27,000 miles. Our vendor is the car’s sixth keeper and, having satisfied himself as to the car’s remarkable originality, took possession 16/08/2016 at a warranted mileage of 28,600.

This lovely Series 3 has patently been cherished by all its owners as evidenced by its remarkably low mileage and sparkling condition. The shut lines are to factory standard and the vendor informs us the paintwork appears excellent (apart from the frequently stone-chipped panel under the front bumper) and retains a good depth of finish. It has been regularly serviced and maintained throughout its life and our fastidious vendor has certainly kept up that tradition. He has kindly provided details of work carried out during his ownership as listed below;

The original factory special order Signal Red hardtop was fully restored by Classic Restorations of Alyth retaining the original rear screen with its supplying dealer sticker.

Uprated headlight units, originals with the car. Locking fuel cap, original with the car.

Fitted 5 new MWS, 74-spoke, chrome wire wheels with period correct Pirelli tyres, complete with new bearings, hubs and knock-off spinners.

Recarpeted the interior using Jonathan Skinner specially manufactured materials. Recovered the rear parcel shelf/lid and armrest box.

Applied Dynamat sound insulation and carpet insulation to floor

Replaced seat foams and base support, sun visors and headrests

Changed steering wheel for a special order leather-covered Moto-Lita. Original with the car.

Replaced the radio with a DAB Pioneer. Original Radiomobile with the car.

Independent Rear Suspension unit (IRS) frame powder coated. , and differential rebuilt by Hardy Engineering, Leatherhead. 3.07:1 Crown and Pinion wheel was replaced with the same.

1961 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-litre manual/overdrive

Lot # 148 (Sale Order: 49 of 101)

  • Jaguar's seminal Mk2 sports saloon in the ultimate 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive configuration

  • UK/right-hand drive, matching numbers, original panels, and in its original colours of Opalescent Silver Grey with red interior

  • Fully documented ownership history and a verifiable 20,400 miles

  • Magazine-featured (see images) and considered one of best Mk2 examples in the UK

  • Accompanied by a large history file, including many invoices, photos, a Heritage Certificate and all-original handbooks, toolkit, and even the paper tag that hung on the cigarette lighter to inform owners how to use it!

  • In 2006, sold to Richard Fairbrass, lead singer of Right Said Fred, by a prominent Jaguar specialist where it benefited from a full engine-bay detail, power steering and other driving enhancements believed costing in excess of £60,000

  • One of the best Mk2 examples we have ever offered for sale

Launched in October 1959, the Jaguar Mk2 offered a noticeably improved driving experience over its predecessor courtesy of revised front suspension geometry, widened rear track, and four-wheel disc brakes. It was also better looking and, fittingly, the Mk2 was voted 'Car of the Year' in 1959 and would form the mainstay of Jaguar's saloon car production until 1967.

One of the most readily recognised cars of the 1960's, thanks in part to countless appearances in films and on television, Jaguar's seminal Mk2 saloon set the standard for the class throughout its entire production life and today remains highly prized by enthusiasts. With the advent of the Mk2, the 3.8-litre version of Jaguar's XK twin-cam six became available for the first time in the company's medium-sized saloon. In 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive configuration with 220bhp on-tap and a whopping 240lb/ft of torque available at a lowly 3,000rpm, it was a genuine 125 mph car capable of reaching 60mph in 8.5 seconds, outstanding figures for a saloon of its size and making it the fastest saloon in the world at the time.

The car presented here is that most desirable of models, a 1961 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-litre M/OD. This particular car is well-known and has been magazine-featured, having completed a genuine and well-documented 20,400 miles from new. It was sold new to a Mr James Young of Strathaven, Scotland, who ordered this Mk2 from Rossleigh Motors, notably with Ace Turbo wheel-trims and two huge air-horns situated in the front wings! Mr Young owned Townhead Garage and upon delivery of the car, he took the rather unusual step of having it professionally stripped and repainted in his ‘garage livery’ of Coffee and Cream. This work was carried out by Millar & Williamson of Kirkintilloch and period photographic documentation (in the accompanying history file) depicts the car in this colour scheme (Mr Young also assigned the very special registration number ‘NU 1’ to the car at this time, and this was later purchased by Norwich Union).

Mr Young only used the car sparingly at weekends and for holidays, however in 1964 he sadly fell ill and the Mk2 sat unused until his death 23 years later in 1987. Townhead Garage was then sold to a Mr Jimmy Louden and he agreed with Mr Young’s widow that he would help dispose of her husband’s car collection that had quietly accumulated over the years. Jimmy Louden fully re-commissioned the car and it was sold in 1988 with just 8,500 miles on the clock!

In subsequently passed between a number of owners since (all fully documented in history file, often with letters from each), including a Mr Kevin Videan of Pembrokeshire, who together with the Mk2 featured in a great article in the January 2005 edition of ‘Jaguar Enthusiast’ magazine (photos of which are attached to this listing, use arrows to click right through). Prior to his ownership, the car was professionally restored back to its original colour combination (with another high quality repaint in 2012 with a photographic record and receipts); the only external deviation now from the original factory specification is the fitment of wire wheels.

The interior is one of the best we have seen, presented in an unrestored condition, with a beautiful patina and unrepeatable original smell, a rare opportunity to experience just how Jaguar prepare their veneers when new! The only upgrade is the addition of a recreated Derringt

1984 Peugeot T16 'Group B'

Lot # 149 (Sale Order: 50 of 101)

  • Built by Peugeot Sport UK under the guidance of Des O’Dell. Sister car to the actual factory owned T16

  • 1.8-litre, turbocharged, 16v, transversely-mounted, 4-cylinder producing 350+bhp and 332lb.ft

  • Used by Jon Woodner with great success in the US between late 1984 and 1988

  • Purchased by Peter Johnson and shipped to New Zealand in 2000 prior to a full recommission

  • Fully rebuilt and upgraded by Kiwi rally legend, Ron McMillan, to a remarkable standard

  • In the UK since 2004, invited everywhere and actively displayed by its owners

  • A comprehensive history, large owner's file and a substantial spares package

  • Fabulous opportunity. 'Group B' cars with this pedigree and known history rarely come to market

The Peugeot 205 T16 ‘Evolution 1’ marked Peugeot’s ‘works’ entry into top-level rallying, shaking the world of WRC ‘Group B’ with its raw speed. From its debut with Ari Vatanen at the wheel, it was the car that provided two years of almost complete domination of the WRC by the Jean Todt-led Peugeot Talbot Sport team. As well as Vatanen, Bruno Saby, Timo Salonen, and Juha Kankkunen contributed to a total of 13 outright wins between 1985 and 1986, placing Peugeot at the pinnacle of Group B until it was eventually banned on safety grounds in 1987.

The car’s clever, mid-engine 4 x 4 packaging with an accessible, transversely-mounted engine and suspension, and great derivability made it almost unbeatable. With a 16-valve head, mechanical fuel injection compressed by a turbocharger running at approximately 1.5 BAR, the little four-pot developed as much as 400-horsepower at an incredible 8,000 rpm. Peugeot factory stats quoted max torque was 332 lb.ft at 5,000 rpm and, coupled with a relatively svelte 2,160 pounds, acceleration was almost linear prompting some drivers to complain of ‘tunnel vision’.

As one of the most successful rally cars of the astonishing Group B era, the T16 has largely been overlooked, with people idolizing the Audi Quattro for its innovative four-wheel-drive system or the Lancia 037, which was the last rear-wheel-drive car to win the WRC Constructor’s title, and the 205 has, for too long, remained the unsung hero.

The example offered here is ‘the’ Jon Woodner Car, # S007. Commissioned by the wealthy American Real Estate Developer and rally driver in 1984, it was built by Peugeot Sport UK under the guidance of Des O’Dell, before being exported to the United States for Jon’s outings in the SCCA Rally Championship. The Peugeot arrived in the US late in 1984 and its first 'shakedown' was at the Carson City International Rally on December 8/9th. The rally was won by Hannu Mikkola but unfortunately ‘S7’, co-driven by Ty Holmquist, recorded a DNF first time out. The following year, with Tony Sircombe now navigating, only two rallies were entered but 1986 proved a more productive year with 7 SACCA events rewarding Jon and Tony with 5 podiums. The high spot of 1986 was undoubtedly the Olympus Rally in early December which, for the first time, was an official round of the World Rally Championship and consequently Jon and S7, as leading ‘privateers’ were treated to ‘works support’ and an abundance of factory upgrades. 1987 was to be another full season for the team with events in Ireland, France and Belgium however the Peugeot remained at home in the States enjoying five outings in SACCA achieving two seconds and a third in very competitive fields. In early April 1988, Chassis S7 made its final appearance in Jon's hands at the intriguingly named Chattahoochee Forest Pro Rally poignantly resulting in an 'Open Class' win. Sadly, Jon was killed in an aeroplane crash a couple of weeks later on the 24th of April 1988.

Having acquitted itself brilliantly over the previous three years, Jon's beloved T16 was put into storage by his widow in 1989 and she rejected repeated attempts to buy the car, however, in 2000, Peter Johnson, a New Zealand businessman was successful in purchasing S7 and it was immediately shipped to NZ accompanied by a substantial quantity of spares. Shortly after its arrival, Ron McMillan of Road, Race and Rally in Auckland was asked to fully strip and assess the car and he entrusted Alistair Wickens to dismantle the rollin
