Andrew Henry's Meadow (1963 First Edition) - Doris Burn Illustrated Children's Classic
Andrew Henry's Meadow - First Edition (1963)
First Edition copy of the children's picture book Andrew Henry's Meadow, written and illustrated by Doris Burn and published by Coward-McCann in 1963.
Book tells the story of Andrew Henry, a young inventor whose constant experiments frustrate the adults around him. Eventually he leaves home to build a hidden meadow workshop where other imaginative children join him, each constructing their own elaborate houses designed to support their creative pursuits.
The book is widely considered a landmark in mid-century children's literature due to its highly detailed pen-and-ink illustrations and inventive architectural designs. Author and illustrator Doris Burn reportedly spent nearly ten years developing and refining the intricate artwork that fills the book’s pages.
The elaborate drawings, whimsical machines, and imaginative structures have made the book a lasting favorite among collectors of illustrated children's literature and mid-century picture books.
Published during a golden era of illustrated children's books in the early 1960s, Andrew Henry's Meadow stands out for its technical drawing style, unusual level of architectural detail, and celebration of creativity and invention.

1976 First American Edition The Bed Book - Sylvia Plath Children's Classic
The Bed Book (First American Edition)
Vintage First American Edition copy of The Bed Book, written by acclaimed poet Sylvia Plath and published by Harper & Row in 1976. The whimsical children's book was originally written by Plath in 1959 for her own children, Frieda and Nicholas.
The story presents a playful series of imaginative beds described in rhythmic verse, including inventions such as a Submarine Bed, a Jet-Propelled Bed, and other fantastical sleeping arrangements designed to spark creativity in young readers.
This edition features illustrations by Emily Arnold McCully, who later won the Caldecott Medal for her celebrated picture book Mirette on the High Wire. Her playful illustration style complements Plath’s imaginative text and whimsical concepts.
Although written during Plath’s lifetime, the book was published posthumously. Plath passed away in 1963, and the book was first released in the United Kingdom in 1970 before this First American Edition appeared in 1976. The copyright for the text is held by Plath’s husband, poet Ted Hughes.
