Important French Bisque Art Character Lady, Original Costume of WWI Red Cross Nurse 8500/11,000

22" (56 cm.) Bisque socket head with slender angular face and elongated throat, intaglio brown eyes in deeply-set sockets, white eye dots, black and shaded red upper eyel...moreiner, dark eyeshadow encircles the eyes, brushstroked brows with decorative glaze, aquiline nose, closed mouth with impressed worry lines at each side of demure lips, unpierced ears, brunette mohair wig captured in chignon under cap, slender elongated composition lady body with jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, elongated slender fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1917, maker uncertain, created during the Renaissance of the French doll era with distinctive original body and exceptional artistic painting that was stylistic of that era. Value Points: outstanding beauty of the doll, with haunting yet gentle expression created by unique painting of eyes, original body, and wearing all-original Red Cross nursing uniform of WWI era including Red Cross buttons and silver medal with raised letter E.

Grand German Musical Handwind Mechanical Nursery Scene "Hickory Dickory Dock" 4500/6500

18" (46 cm.) h. x 24"w. x 16"d. Arranged upon a wooden platform with painted and lithographed cover and with scrolled sides and mirrored curtained back wall are nine bisq...moreue head children arranged in playful settings. Seated at a table is a little girl playing teacher with her two students, at the back are two boys playing on hobby horse, three other girls play with little toy clowns and ball, and a boy stands in front of a grandfather clock. When wound, music plays, and a series of actions occur: teacher waves her rod and students eagerly raise and lower their arms while the table globe twirls around; one boy appears to lean on the rocking horse, the girls' arms wave their dolls up and down and the ball actually twirls around by itself; and finally one boy points eagerly to the clock because a little mouse is running up and down the side, (as in the nursery rhyme "Hickory, Dickory Dock, the mouse ran up the clock". Excellent condition, mechanism and music function well and delightfully. Germany, circa 1890, attributed to Zinner and Sohne.

Extremely Rare German Bisque Art Character, Model 104, by Kammer and Reinhardt 60,000/85,000

Bisque socket head depicting an older child with very angular oval face and highly-characterized sculpting detail at brows, below the eyes and around the mou...moreth, painted blue eyes that are slightly side-glancing, heavy upper eyelids with thick black liner, one-stroke short brows, rounded nose tip, closed mouth with sculpted space between the shaded lips, impressed cheek, chin and philtrum dimples, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique schoolgirl costume, shoes, socks, and woven bonnet. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K*R 104. Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt from their art reform character series of 1910. According to primary research by Marianne and Jurgen Cieslik, it is known that the doll was sculpted by the noted German artist, Arthur Lewin-Funcke; his daughter Karin served as the model and a hand-written note by the artist describes it only as "104: Girl laughing". Further research by the Cieslik's indicates the model was a commercial failure, only some were used in the Berlin shops for decoration. Few examples were ever made; only three or four others are known to exist today. Value Points: superb unplayed state of preservation of the extremely rare doll which has been in the possession of only the original family for 70 years and then with one collector for 39 years. Included with the doll is its original labeled box "K*R Charakterpuppe" indicating its production for the German market, a second original wig of hand-tied human hair and a second bonnet.
