The 1873 was later produced chambered for .38-40 and .32-20, both of which would become popular handgun cartridges of the day allowing users to carry just one type of ammunition. The Model 1873 was produced in three variations: Rifle, Carbine & Musket. It gained its reputation as the weapon of choice for pioneers, lawmen, and outlaws during the expansion of the American West. Famous figures who carried the Model 1873 include William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, Apache warrior Geronimo, and outlaw Frank James. Universal Picture's 1950 movie Winchester '73, starring James Stewart, focused on one of the prized "One of One Thousand" rifles which fueled its popularity even more. The outbreak of World War I created a massive demand for the pistol. Production ramped up significantly by Colt. The "US Property" marking was applied to these government-issued pistols to indicate their ownership and were carried by soldiers throughout the war. Many WWI-era pistols saw extensive service, and some were still in frontline service during World War II. After WWI, the design was slightly improved and officially became the M1911A1. CONDITION: This pistol is in nice condition with very light wear, has nice/ sharp clean bores and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Schuler Reform is a rare .25 ACP (or 6.35mm) semi-automatic pistol designed by August Schuler and patented in 1904, with production running from 1907 to 1914. It was an innovative but short-lived design that featured a unique four-barrel "magazine" block that slid upwards with each trigger pull to align a new barrel with the hammer. Spent casings were ejected by the gas pressure of the following shot, deflected away from the shooter by a unique upward curved hammer spur. The final spent casing must be manually removed. It is often mistakenly called the "Brevete" due to the patent marking on the magazine. The Schuler Reform is a significant example of an early attempt to create a compact, high-firepower pistol in a novel way. Its unusual design and short production run make it a prized possession for collectors. SHIPPING - We offer free shipping anywhere within the continental US. All firearms must be sent to an FFL (or C&R if applicable) regardless of age or caliber. This includes antiques & muzzleloaders.
