*Fantastic pair of Engraved Colt single action revolvers.

The engraving is attributed to Arnold Griebel known for his elaborate firearms engraving. Both revolvers have near identical engravings covering almost 100% of each revolver, being silver plated and gold washed. The engraving is of a scroll work style with a pin punched background both retaining the caliber designation on the left side of the barrels and patent marks on the left side of the frame just under the cylinder. The top of the barrels retain the Colt address with SN- 254044 being a single line and SN- 340960 having a two line address. The gold wash is thinning but present in areas of cylinder, ejector rod housing triggers and hammers. Both hammer sides are engraved and the spurs are checkered. Both bores shine bright with rifling and each having a fixed blade front sight and notch rear. Revolvers show almost no handling marks with some toning to the silver finish. Serial number 254044 is numbered on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with serial number 340960 being marked on the frame. The engraving is a scroll type and is found throughout most surfaces with a nickel finish having a "44" on the frame just in front of the cylinder. The finish shows areas of light thinning with the sides of the hammer being engraved and stars on either side of the trigger guard. single action. Manufactured in 1878 being renickeled with a nice action and strong hammer spring. The bore has shine with rifling showing some surface pitting. The renickeled finish shows a few losses most noticeable on the cylinder and some small spotting on the barrel and frame. The front sight is a fixed blade and the rear is a notch with the top of the barrel having a single line address and the bottom at the cylinder pin being marked "44". The left side of the frame has the standard 3 line patent marking and the serial number is present on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. double action. The underside of the barrel is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the underside of the grip frame is marked "U.S./ARMY/Model/1917/No/59/359" with a lanyard swivel present. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two line address/patent and the left side is marked "S.&W. D.A. 45". The barrel is pinned, serial numbered to the revolver with an eagle head proof. The cylinder is also serialed to the revolver with an eagle head proof and the flaming bomb proof is located on the left side of the frame at the top rear corner. The smooth walnut grip panels show only a few light handling marks while the case colored trigger and hammer retain a majority of the coloring showing some light freckling. The blued metal finish shows some thinning to the left side of the muzzle where there are some light scratches present as well and some light freckling is present in a few areas most noticeable on the right side where one of the areas shows old very light surface rust in an area approximately 0.212" x 0.219" with some wear on the right side barrel near muzzle as well., Both front and back straps also show light scattered freckling. Zettlemoyer Auction Co. is not a retail store.
