Lot # 9 (Sale Order: 10 of 49)

Shipping Costs: UK-£12.50, USA-£20, Europe-£20, Far East-£20. Jamie Hewlett's talents became apparent early in life. Of these Tank Girl went on to become phenomenally successful, spawning dedicated comics, books and even a film adaptation. While sharing a flat with Blur singer Damon Albarn the pair hit upon the idea of a cartoon band, Gorillaz. In May 2006 Jamie was named named Designer of the Year. The chair of the jury, Sir Christopher Frayling, summed up his achievements perfectly saying, "Jamie Hewlett has not only created a personal mythology with the virtual band Gorillaz, he has also created designs for the direction in which technology and culture are going, the shape of things to come." This authentic fragment, which even in doodles could only be by one hand, is from a series of only 45 original art cards made by Hewlett between 1988 and 1995....more

Shipping Costs: UK-£21, US:£45, Europe:£40. Far East:£60. Duncan Fegredo made his American comics debut with KID ETERNITY, a book he decided to paint in full colour for no better reason than “everybody else was doing it”. It was followed by a number of titles crafted with writer Peter Milligan for DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, including the critically acclaimed ENIGMA. Fegredo has latterly collaborated with writer/artist Mike Mignola on his signature creation Hellboy, published by Dark Horse Comics, for which he has drawn the story arcs “Darkness Calls,” “The Wild Hunt” and “The Storm & The Fury.” Their latest work together is "The Midnight Circus", also from Dark Horse. A step outside comics saw Fegredo in the position of lead storyboard artist on the Darren Aronofsky film "Noah", and more recently he co-created the Image Comics series "MPH" with writer Mark Millar. Fegredo resides in the UK with his lovely wife, Diana, and a succession of snuggly cats. This brilliant Hellboy painting is in watercolour and lightfast fineliner on board, 43cm x 29cm. POSY SIMMONDS - ORIGINAL GEMMA BOVERY SKETCH

Lot # 46 (Sale Order: 19 of 49)

Shipping Costs: UK-£13.50, USA-£22, Europe-£22, Far East-£23. Posy Simmonds is a British national treasure: artist, writer, award-winning newspaper cartoonist and writer and illustrator of children's books. She is best known for her long association with The Guardian, for which she has drawn the series Gemma Bovery (2000) and Tamara Drewe (2005–06), both later published as graphic novels, and both also adapted into major feature films. Posy gently satirises the English middle classes and in particular those of a literary bent. Both "Tamara Drewe" and "Gemma Bovery" feature a "doomed heroine", much in the style of the 18th- and 19th-century gothic romantic novel, to which they often allude, but with an ironic, modernist slant. This beautiful, unique and unsettling artwork is an original sketch for Gemma Bovery, dated c. 1998. 265mm x 185mm (roughly) / ink and coloured pencil on paper....more

FRANK QUITELY - BLIND MEN AND ELEPHANT FROM "BROADBAND"

Lot # 53 (Sale Order: 20 of 49)

Shipping Costs: UK-£13.50, USA-£22, Europe-£22, Far East-£23. Since breaking into the American comics mainstream in 1996 by pencilling Grant Morrison’s metatextual masterpiece 'Flex Mentallo', Frank Quitely – born Vincent Deighan in Glasgow – has become one of the industry’s foremost artistic talents. In addition to work on 'The Authority', 'Sandman : Endless Nights' and 'Batman : The Scottish Connection', he has since collaborated with Morrison numerous times on some of the most exciting, vibrant and groundbreaking series of the last fifteen years – including 'New X-Men', 'We3', 'All-Star Superman', and more recently the mindbending 'Multiversity: Pax Americana', as well as 'Jupiter's Legacy' with Mark Millar – meeting with high critical acclaim and awards at almost every turn. Frank created this stunning, one-off ink drawing for a 2002 project called BROADBAND. It was a 3-page, one-off comic that was the brainchild of visionary comic-creator ILYA. He put together a team of thirteen great artists who each contributed a few panels to the comic in their own style. Originally a project for Bristol Comic-con, this brilliant idea never saw the light of day, and is now available to be seen for the first time. Most of the artists have kindly donated their original images, which will be auctioned shortly on Ebay. As well as viewing, enjoying (and bidding on) this artwork, you can read the complete 3-page comic in its final, full-colour form by visiting this link: http://sites.google.com/site/broadbandcomic/home. Her art has a decidedly pop-art and psychedelic flair. Mizuno has participated in the Angoulême International Comics Festival and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Her graphic novel 'Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu' is the tale of a naive cotton-ball-like alien who leaves his home world, the all-female planet Kotobuki, and travels to Earth to find love and to have a child. However, Earth women view him as an entertaining pet. He drifts in and out of their lives, solving their problems in an attempt to woo the women of Earth. The Comics Journal described it as containing Mizuno’s main interests: "sex, death, romance, kawaii, and the way they merge into a single melting rainbow of uncanniness". This set of two pictures comprise the original ink drawing and original artist's proof print featuring characters from 'Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu', made for a limited edition print set exclusively sold at the Last Gasp booth at San Diego Comic Con 2010. Original drawing: ink on paper. 12.5" x 10". Artist's proof: print on embossed paper, 12" x 10"....more
