The Alfa Romeo Spider is widely regarded as a design classic. Itremained in production for almost three decades with only minoraesthetic and mechanical changes. The first presentation of thecar, as a prototype, was at the Turin Motor Show in 1961; however, the continuing success of existing models and the economicchallenges facing Italy at the time, meant that the firstpre-launch production Spiders only began to emerge from thePininfarina production line at the end of 1965. Lot # 205 (Sale Order: 5 of 127)

First introduced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) at MonteCarlo on 20th May 1958 and intended as a low-cost model, the Spritewas designed by the Donald Healey Motor Company which received aroyalty payment from the manufacturers BMC. The low cost of £669was achieved by using a mildly tuned version of the A Series engineand as many other components from existing cars as possible.Manufactured at the MG sports car factory at Abingdon, it was notsurprising that the success of the design would lead to an MGversion, which was known as the Midget. In 1974, tomeet US federal regulations, large black plastic bumpers were addedto the front and rear and the ride height was increased; ananti-roll bar was added to help with the higher centre of gravity. The A-Series engine was replaced by the 1493cc unit from theTriumph Spitfire. Austin A40 Somerset

Lot # 208 (Sale Order: 8 of 127)

The A40 Somerset was produced from 1952 until 1954. It replacedthe A40 Devon and was quite similar to that body-on-frame car, including using the same 1.2 litre, four-cylinder pushrod engine. The engine was updated to produce 42hp however, giving the car atop speed of 69mph. The Somerset featured an updated'Transatlantic' body style designed for export and resembled thelarger A70 Hereford. It had a bench front seat and column mountedgear change. The Somerset was initially offered only as a four-doorsaloon, with a three-passenger two-door convertible introduced inlate 1952. The convertible differed from the saloon in havingseparate front seats that folded forward to give access to the rearand had a top speed of 74 mph while the normal saloon could reachup to 70mph. Over 173,000 were sold before the Somerset wasreplaced by the A40 Cambridge in 1954.This beautiful Austin A40 has only covered 39,000 miles from newand has undergone a complete restoration.  Apart from havingnew sill panels, the rest of the car is all original and is inexcellent condition throughout. Mercedes-Benz C 43 AMG

Lot # 209 (Sale Order: 9 of 127)

The C 43 AMG was launched in 1997 and it followed on from thestraight-six C 36 AMG. That first AMG W202, C-Class was good enoughwith its 280hp straight-six; but its replacement was undeniablyaltogether more special. Not least because the W202 marked a stepchange in the relationship between AMG and Mercedes-Benz, being thefirst car assembled from scratch (as opposed to upgraded) at theformer's factory in Affalterbach. It was also the firstMercedes-Benz C-Class powered by the M113, V8 engine. Just as withwhat seems like all AMGs, the C 43 explodes into life with aninfectious V8 woofle with all that power, allied with a maximumtorque output of 302lb ft, hitting a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 seconds.Limited to 155mph, Mercedes-Benz unofficially claimed it could hit168mph when de-restricted and unlike the old C 36, the C 43'sfive-speed auto is snappy and responsive, thanks to AMGmodifications. Setting off, it feels slightly aloof and inert atlow speeds but once you crank things up, it sprints like a kickedcat - all fury and drama and the noise that accompanies thissurging acceleration is epic; a thread that seems common to all V8AMGs.This excellent, three owner, Mercedes-Benz C 43 AMG has onlycovered 46,700 miles from new and was supplied 'fully loaded' witha long list of optional extras including Designo leather anddecorative trim, electric seats and telephone system. It was fullyserviced less than 1,000 miles ago and recently the airconditioning has been completely overhauled. Finished in dark bluewith blue leather interior and curled maple woodwork, this C 43 issupplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificatewith no advisories which expires in February 2016 and a fullservice history including all the old MoT's and a fully stampedservice book. AMG are renowned for producing some of the bestsports saloons in the world and this model is one of them.?

Jaguar E-Type Series III Fixedhead Coupé

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 10 of 127)

By the mid-1960s, the Jaguar E-Type was appealing to the manwith a young family but who were restricted by the size of thecurrent Jaguar E-Type coupé and its open topped sibling. Thisprompted Jaguar to offer a third option in the form of a 2+2 coupé.By adding nine inches to the wheelbase and two inches in height, itwas then possible to fit a rear seat capable of seating two adultsin tolerable comfort. Of course the rear seat was more suited tochildren or, as 'The Motor' put it at the time, the car could'extend Dad's youth for another seven years'. Robert Bell in Motorwas quoted as saying at the time that "all we expected to try was anew engine but what in fact we drove was a new car. Not a yowling, aggressive Ferrari-like machine with which, perhaps, most peopleassociate a V12 engine but a very smooth, quiet and refined grandtouring sports car."We are pleased to offer this 1972 example of a V12, 2+2fixedhead coupé which requires light restoration.  Originallya lefthand drive example, it was exported to the USA but wasre-imported to Scotland in 1990 before the new owner took it toFrance for a year.  Back in Scotland it changed ownership, which is reflected in the MoT test certificates for 1993 to1997.  The current Scottish owner bought the car in 1997 andhad it converted to righthand drive by E-Type specialist M&CWilkinson of Doncaster.  After enjoyable trouble free touring, including a trip to Switzerland, the car was recorded 'off-road' in2000 due to other commitments.  It has been stored since inthe owner's private garage and regularly cleaned, polished and theengine run to temperature.  Today, this V12 E-Type ispresented in its original Old English White livery with contrastingblack leather interior.  The coachwork is reported to bestraight with a few blemishes requiring some light work. The rearaxle was rebuilt in 1999; however, all the suspension and brakesare in need of refurbishment.  The engine starts and quicklysettles into a smooth and reassuring idle whilst displaying verygood oil pressure, the manual gearbox operated smoothly; however, the clutch hydraulics are now also in need of attention.  Theinterior is in good original order with relined roof trim and ahistory file containing the original US service book, variouscustoms and other paperwork from this car's history including morerecent receipts. This is an attractive and usable example foranyone prepared to apply some TLC and quickly enjoy the reward ofJaguar's sublime V12 motoring.?

Triumph Stag

Lot # 211 (Sale Order: 11 of 127)

Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styledby Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoqueconstruction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes,power-assisted rack, and also the pinion steering and driveline ofthat saloon. The power plant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors and thenewcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970.Most Stags were fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox, asindeed is this one with electric windows, power steering andpower-assisted brakes fitted as standard. Very desirable, the Stagis well supported through various clubs and specialistsuppliers. This sound example, presented in red with a contrasting blackvinyl interior, wood dash and automatic gearbox comes with anexhaustive history of invoices as well as a UK V5C and an MoT testcertificate valid until July 2016. Towards the end of last year, new discs, pads and reconditioned callipers were fitted. Newbearings as well as numerous other minor works were carried out inJanuary making for a reliable and thoroughly mechanically strongexample. Indeed, the entire car underwent a full restoration inapproximately 1998 and has also recently had a gearbox overhaul andengine rebuild to the tune of some £3,000. This Triumph Stagrepresents good value given the fiscal input.1 page?

Mercedes-Benz 350 SL Roadster

Lot # 212 (Sale Order: 12 of 127)

The Mercedes R107 was launched in 1971 and production continuedthrough to 1989 - a hefty 18 years; the longest single series everproduced by the firm besides the G-Class utility vehicle. The R 107replaced the W 113 Pagoda SL in 1972 and was replaced by the R 129SL in 1989. Some 237,000 R 107 SL's were built and about two thirdswere sold in the US. The car was essentially a two-seater sportscar although a small seating arrangement was available behind thefront seats. Mercedes-Benz offered a number of engine choices overthe years, the first cars in 1971 being fitted with the 350 engine,a V8 3.5-litre unit. By 1973 a larger 4.5-litre V8 was available, constructed primarily for the US market. The SL Roadster has sincebecome the epitome of how a luxury roadster should look and is aspopular today as when first launched. This early 1972 example was registered in January 1973 and isoffered in the very rare combination of Aqua Blue with deep blue, hard wearing MB-Tex.  We are informed that it wasprofessionally restored by a Mercedes-Benz specialist just nineyears ago and has seen little use since, leading to a fullre-commission this year by the current vendor.  An extremelysolid and honest example of such a collectable roadster, this 350SLis presented with good chrome work, interior, optional additionalpassenger seats and a very good optional hard top. Carpets werereplaced just three years ago along with a brand new, deep bluehood and all electricals are working correctly. This SL comes witha fresh MoT test certificate with no advisories at which time itwas noted that the car also has near new brake pipes and new rearcalipers. Qualifying for a Historic tax classification, this 350 SLRoadster is sure to make a Sunday afternoon drive even morepleasurable.

BMW 700 Sport Coupé

Lot # 213 (Sale Order: 13 of 127)

During the post-war period, BMW faced several challengesre-building its car manufacturing industry, but due to sheerdetermination and forward thinking developments in design andmanufacturing, it started to evolve. In the early 1960s, BMWlaunched the 700, succeeding the 600 as the first BMW model builtwith a monocoque chassis; initially available in both two-doorsaloon and coupé versions with a convertible option added later. The rear-mounted, flat twin-cylinder engine was an ingenious designdisplacing 697cc, with a single Solex carburettor developing 30bhp.Improved brakes and rack and pinion steering gave the 700 excellentdriving characteristics. Later variants included the 700 Sport withtwin carburettors and the Luxus on a longer wheelbase. In total,188,211 were built in five years of production but relatively fewsurvive today. This BMW 700 Sport coupé is owned by a very knowledgeableenthusiast and is being sold sadly, for health reasons. Registeredon 25th January 1963, this is a genuine UK righthanddrive example and as such, is a very rare model. This interestingBMW started 'on the button' during our demonstration, with theengine sounding superb. Having undergone a restoration a number ofyears ago, 627 NNK remains in very good order and drives with noknown faults. In-car heating was always a problem for these carsand this has been fitted with an Eberspacher heater for greatercomfort. Supplied with a V5C registration document, a current MoTtest certificate, original buff log book and a comprehensivehistory file, this is currently sitting on larger wheels and tyres, however, the original steel wheels and steering wheel are suppliedas part of the sale. Volkswagen Type 2 Double-Cab Fire Engine by Branbridge

Lot # 214 (Sale Order: 14 of 127)

In late 1967, the second generation of the Volkswagen Type 2 wasintroduced. It was built in Germany until 1979 and in Mexico, theVolkswagen Kombi and Panel were produced from 1970 to 1994. Modelsbefore 1971 are often called the T2a (or 'Early Bay'), while modelsafter 1972 are called the T2b (or 'Late Bay'). Thissecond-generation Type 2 lost its distinctive split-frontwindscreen and was slightly larger and considerably heavier thanits predecessor. At 1.6 litres and developing 47bhp, theengine was also slightly larger. As readily recognisable as theimmortal 'Beetle' itself and a cult vehicle in its own right, theVolkswagen T2 and its derivatives enjoyed an even longer period inproduction than their saloon progenitor. By 1968, when the firstmajor revision of this outstandingly successful design occurred, almost two million had been sold worldwide. This rare Type 2 fire engine was built by Branbridge Fire andSecurity Equipment Ltd. of Frant, near Tunbridge Wells in Kent. This was the first of three conversions built and trialled by theKent Fire Brigade; it then went to Merseyside and was trialled as a'first strike' appliance for a large shopping centre in Liverpool. It was subsequently bought by the Central Electricity GeneratingBoard as a works appliance at the Bradewell Plant before beingtransferred to the CEGB at Liverpool's Herculaneum dock where itwas disposed of when the plant closed in the late 1970's. In March2005, the vehicle was acquired by one D. P. Murphy and restoredthat same year. It was gifted by Mr. Murphy to the Merseyside Fire& Rescue Heritage & Education Centre in 2012. We areadvised by the vendor that it is in generally good condition, benefiting from a replacement 1600cc engine and recentlyrefurbished electrics. Finished in the traditional fire engine red,it is also fitted with blue lights and working water pump and comessupplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificatewhich expires in February 2016 and a file containing informationabout all three fire appliances.

Mercedes-Benz 450SL Roadster

Lot # 215 (Sale Order: 15 of 127)

Introduced early in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports carreplaced the 280SL; the body and chassis of the third generationMercedes-Benz SL considerably heavier and longer than itspredecessor, but still showing a resemblance to them. The3.5-Litre, V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those beingused on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on thefloor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provideda top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8seconds. As with the previous generation SLs, the vehicle came asan open roadster with removable hard top and went on to become oneof the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz. A range of enginesize were available, one of the more powerful was the 4.5-Litreunit. This Mercedes-Benz has just been repainted and restored by aMercedes-Benz approved bodyshop and we are pleased to report thecar has been completed to a very high standard. Not in terriblecondition to start with, the fastidious nature of the bodyshopowner resulted in him putting two new front wings on the car andfabricating any other areas of corrosion. Mechanically, 107Mercedes are generally very strong and this car is no exception.Supplied with a V5C registration document, a 12 month MoT testcertificate and a good degree of service history/invoices togetherwith a hardtop; prices on these roadsters have increaseddramatically in recent times, particularly for good examples suchas this.

Triumph TR4A

Lot # 216 (Sale Order: 16 of 127)

We are pleased to offer this 1965 Triumph TR4A, presented inSignal Red with matching red interior. This particular car wasfirst registered on 9th April 1965, making it a veryearly example of the model. The TR4A replaced the TR4 in March 1965as a more sophisticated marque than its predecessor. Externallythere was little difference apart from a revised grille, sideindicators and badging. However, the chassis was radicallyre-designed to incorporate an independent rear suspension set up.The giveaway was the attitude of the rear wheels; the TR4A nowhaving an all around independent suspension was advanced for sportscars of this class, which made its competitors, such as the MGB andthe Austin Healey, look archaic.Purchased in 2012 by the current owner, EUO 895C has undergonesome sympathetic renovation with the intention of maintaining alook and feel of originality. Prior to purchase, the engine wasoverhauled in 2010 and importantly includes an unleaded cylinderhead and a stainless steel exhaust system. In addition, a recentclutch, telescopic rear damper and alternator conversion, thatassists in todays traffic conditions, have been added. Between 2012and 2013 further care was taken to maintain the coachwork; thewings were removed and the inner and outer sill sections replaced, with special care being taken to the alignment of the doors. Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Saloon (3.5 litre)

Lot # 217 (Sale Order: 17 of 127)

The first 'S-Class' Mercedes arrived in 1968 in the form of the280 S and 280 SE, both of which were large, comfortable sports saloons offering powerful touring capabilities and luxurious interiors, seating five occupants. The styling was updated using a thoroughly modern design featuring the attractive stacked layout of the headlights; a popular look during the period. Although the 280was usually powered by a 2.8-litre, straight-six engine,Mercedes-Benz added a V8-engined 280 SE to the model range. The 280SE 3.5 had a 3.5-litre V8 engine and came with both automatic and manual transmission, as well as power steering. These saloons were well equipped and extremely powerful; the 280 SE 3.5 would reach atop-speed of 125mph and offered effortless high-speed cruising, whilst ensuring a comfortable ride. Between 1971 and 1972,Mercedes-Benz produced 11,309 examples and they have been consistently popular with collectors and enthusiasts alike. This 280 SE Saloon has covered 141,996 miles since new and during this time, has been clearly very well cared for. The mileage can be verified by MoT test certificates and service book entries and we can ascertain from the history that the car has covered very few miles specifically in the last ten years;however, it has always had an MoT and been driven to help keep the car in sound condition. The 3.5-litre, V8 engine starts and settles on the button as you would expect and the interior is as new with the important woodwork also in very good condition. The exterior and chrome-work are a credit to the owner's care and ability to shield this example from the English weather; garaged for all its life, there is little-to-no sign of rust. The car comes supplied with a V5C registration document, various invoices and an MoT test certificate until September 2016 with no advisories.  With prices appreciating for the W108/109 models, this United Kingdom delivered 3.5-litre example is competitively priced and offers excellent value in today's market place.

Citroën Traction Avant Six Familiale

Lot # 218 (Sale Order: 18 of 127)

The Citroën Traction Avant was manufactured from 1934 to 1957with about 760,000 units produced. French for 'front wheel drive',it was designed by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni in late 1933and was one of the world's first front-wheel drive steel unitarybody frame production car. With a low-slung design relative toits contemporaries, the Traction Avant always possessed a uniqueand often rakish look. The original model was a small saloon withlater models, like the '11' and the '15' following on with biggerengines. In addition to the four-door body, it was also produced asa two-door coupé with a rumble seat, as a convertible and as anextended length Familiale, (Family) model with three rows of seats, seating seven adults in comfort. This is the largest model of the Citroën Traction Avant rangeproduced, having the eight-seater bodywork and the six-cylinderengine. The Familiale body, the world's first factory-producedstretched limousine, had an extra row of three strapontin seats that could be folded into a recess in the floor. The extralength can be seen between the line of the rear door and the curveof the rear wing. The main market for what are now called 'peoplemovers' were large families and taxi drivers. As a result,six-cylinder versions were comparatively rare, less than 500 werebuilt before the war and only 450 afterwards in 1953. Indeed thiscar is the only known, running example of a Familiale in theUK.Built at Quai de Javel factory in Paris, this Traction Avantwith Gregoire suspension and power steering, was first registeredon 9th October, 1953, where it was used until the late 60s. It wasthen used in Majorca for some years and eventually imported intothe UK in 1973. It lay unused in a lockup garage for 23 years andin March 1995, the present owner bought a very dusty and cob-webbyvehicle standing on four flat and useless tyres. He overhauled itsmechanicals and set its systems to work again. Rotten upholsterywas renewed, of course, and some steel repairs were needed for itsMoT test certificate in 1998. Since being re-mobilised in 1998, thecar has driven an astonishing 40,000km; 3,000 of those in one monthof 2002 during a visit to the USA and Canada for the 12th ICCCR(International Citroën Car Clubs Rally) and 2,500km on a trip toGibraltar in 2007. In early 2012 it was given a new coat of paintand new chrome ready for its 60th birthday in 2013. Together with alarge supporting history file, this very special Traction Avant hasbeen well loved in its lifetime and is now ready for its nextenthusiastic custodian.

Triumph TR5

Lot # 219 (Sale Order: 19 of 127)

It is always a pleasure to offer a motor car that ticks all ofthe desirability boxes and so it is with this TR5 on offer today.Originally supplied to James Edwards Limited of Cheshire on 9th May1968, the TR was later sold to a Mr. Donald Tarbet in November 1968who used the car until 1973 by which time 74,000 miles had beenaccumulated. For reasons upon which may only be speculated; such asthe 1973 fuel crisis (unused fuel vouchers from that period arestill with the TR), the car was laid up for the next 30 years untilit was discovered in 2003 and an extensive professional body-offrestoration was undertaken. When the restoration began, the body tub was found to be inmostly good order; any badly corroded and pitted panels werereplaced with genuine Stanpart contemporary items. The chassis wasrestored with minor additional strengthening by CTM Engineering(CTM). The restoration was completed to return the car to itsoriginal 1968 specification as delivered from the factory includingengine detailing but with enhancements for driving and economy ontoday's roads.  The engine was rebuilt and balanced withlightened flywheel and the gearbox, final drive and suspension werealso rebuilt.  Various upgrades have been incorporated forcomfort, safety and reliability with most of the original itemsretained so that the TR may be put back to its factory state atanytime. These upgrades include Bosch fuel pump and modern PVR,aluminium long range fuel tank, telescopic damper conversion (frontSpax - rear CTM Koni), Kenlow fan, Phoenix six branch exhaustmanifold with sports exhaust system, high torque starter motor, uprated heater, alternator, suspension and brakes, wheel archliners by CTM, electronic ignition, oil cooler, leather seats withheadrests (designed for the TR), Mota-Lita steering wheel, paintedwire wheels and a high level LED brake light. Importantly, theoriginal equipment retained includes the exhaust manifold, steeldisc wheels with Rostyle trims, the rare original steering wheel, lever arm dampers, original seats, alternator and startermotor. Presented in its correct and supplied colours of Valencia Bluewith white screens and hardtop, this UK righthand drive suppliedand registered TR also comes with the British Motor IndustryHeritage Trust Certificate confirming that this is a matchingengine/chassis number motor car with its original equipment of fuelinjected 2.5 litre engine, overdrive, hard top (with removable hardtop factory supplied in white and soft centre section with frame)and heater!  In addition, the history file contains theoriginal green log book which confirms that the last keeperrecorded on it is also recorded on the current V5 registrationdocument, being the previous keeper to the current owner;therefore, there are three recorded keepers in total. The TR wasbuilt to be used regularly throughout the year on internationaltours and covers approximately 2-3,000 miles annually. Its highstandard and reliability were confirmed on a recent test byperforming and handling exceptionally well and receiving commentssuch as "the best TR5 I've experienced" from the tester.Featured in the editorial on the front cover of Classic Carsmagazine in February 2009, this, the most desirable of theMichelotti TRs, is today certainly testament to the standard of therestoration completed nearly 10 years ago and is offered with amost tempting estimate.?

Jensen Interceptor Mk. II

Lot # 225 (Sale Order: 25 of 127)

Shown at the October 1966 Earls Court Motor Show alongside thetechnically advanced four wheel drive FF, the Touring ofMilan designed Interceptor was quite a sensation and received muchpraise. The fact Jensen had in the space of a year produced twocompletely new models was also outstanding, particularly as the twocompanies involved in the project were 680 miles apart. Theoriginal design penned by Touring of Milan was takento Vignale of Turin who had the capability to produce thecar in far greater numbers than Touring. Fully trimmed andpainted bodyshells were delivered from Italy for assembly at WestBromwich by October 1966. Both new cars had the 330bhpChrysler V8 engine coupled to a Torqueflite 3 speed automaticgearbox and fashionable Rostyle wheels were fitted. The originalcars built by Vignale in Italy required much work both inside andout to meet the quality standard required by Jensen and eventuallythe contract was terminated by Jensen, who then produced completecars themselves at their West Bromwich factory. Power steering wasincluded as standard from September 1968 and in October 1969 theSeries II was announced featuring revised frontal styling andvented disc brakes. This superbly presented Series II Interceptor has had  fiveowners from new and was restored bodily and mechanically between1993 and 2014 by the then owner, who was a garage proprietor. Sincethen further restoration has been carried out including a resprayand work to the interior with the front seats receiving new hides, the rear seats 'Connolised' and new carpets fitted. Many items ofrubber trim have also been recently renewed to give the finishingtouches to this most attractive car.The Jensen starts easily and settles down to a quiet idle, showing good oil pressure. We are informed that the car drivesextremely well with no known faults. The history file contains theoriginal workshop manual, owner's handbook and service booklet aswell as a photographic record of the restoration and a number ofJensen Owners' Club journals. There is a current V5 registrationdocument and the Jensen will have a fresh MoT test certificate bythe time of the sale. A new set of tyres will also be fitted. TheJensen Interceptor has become a very collectable car yet stilloffers excellent value when compared with its peers and thisexample, beautifully finished in red with magnolia hide interior,is offered at a very reasonable estimate.
