German Oriental Baby

Lot # 600 (Sale Order: 1 of 574)      

Attributed to Recknagel this cute baby with molded hair and oriental features was manufactured in Germany during the earlier part of the twentieth century. Recknagel competed for market share with other well known manufacturers such as Simon & Halbig, J.D. Kestner and Armand Marseille. Nicely colored bisque(some very light peppering) and in this case the baby has blue glass sleep eyes which are original to him. The boy is dressed in a cotton colorful embroidered chemise and retains some original body finish(some aged repair/repaint to toe tips & arms). Size 12" T.

Exquisite perfect bisque socket head incised with size “E” having Bru’s classic lady face based on Empress Eugenie with blue threaded eyes, delicately painted eyelashes, smiling closed mouth with lip shading strokes, and pierced ears, with replaced human hair wig, on an unmarked bisque shoulder plate mounted on an antique cloth body with leather arms, one lower leg broken at the ankle, other is weak. Wearing only vintage stockings and new shoes. Wonderful project to get her properly outfitted! Size 16 - 1/4" T.

Marked on rear of head with only a number(14) this fine quality earlier Kestner is on her original straight wristed chubby composition body. Pale bisque with rosey cheeks, a square jaw, set brown glass eyes and finely painted facial features such as her lips. Compo body has original finish(re-glue at ball joints on left arm) with some typical wear on fingers, possibly her original blonde mohair wig and dressed in antique white cotton underwear. Bisque socket head incised “B 10 F” with Jumeau checkmarks and lovely classic face with multistroked dark eyebrows, blue inset glass eyes, closed mouth, pierced ears, and brown human hair wig with long curls which is glued tightly and not removed, but no damage noted. French jointed composition and wood body with original finish (paint chips on upper legs, wear on hands, fingernail polish). Wearing a splendid antique red wool dress with lace and ribbon trim (a few moth holes), red attached petticoat, antique underwear, vintage shoes and socks. She makes a very stylish presentation! Black Jumeau Bebe

Lot # 605 (Sale Order: 6 of 574)      

A seldom seen example of a mulatto bebe attributed to the Jumeau firm. On a fully jointed unmarked composition body with only a “6” mkd on the rear of the bisque head. Amber paperweight eyes, open mouth with upper teeth, softly colored bisque it appears she retains her original mohair wig(tightly glued to head) which is cropped short adding to her appeal. Body retains original finish( some flaking to left hand) which matches nicely with her complexion. As is sometimes typical with black & mulatto bisque dolls the painted features have worn slightly including brows, lashes & lips. Redressed in a newer French style red bebe outfit but she is still quite pleasant. Bisque head appears to be free of hairlines, eye chips, cheek rubs, etc. Size 16" T.

Rabery – Delphieu Closed Mouth Bebe

Lot # 606 (Sale Order: 7 of 574)      

A contemporary competitor of Jumeau, Bru, Steiner this bebe is just often referred to by the initials R.D. Marked on rear of head R.0 D. she is on a jointed composition body mkd Jumeau with a partial French store label. Nice coloring to bisque face(white spot & some speckling/kiln dust under chin) with bright blue paperweight eyes which give her an appealing charm. Doll has an antique sandy colored mohair wig with cork pate and being nicely redressed in a cream colored woolen outfit highlighted with pink ribbons(antique undergarments). Bisque head inspected and appears to be free of hairlines and/or eye chips. CORRECTION: Has a wig on top of the head at the crown.

A socket head marked only with red Jumeau checkmarks has glowing bisque with long dark multistroked eyebrows, large brown inset eyes, closed mouth with lip shading strokes, applied pierced ears, and short brown human hair wig which is glued tightly and not completely removed, but appears to be free of any damage. Original French composition and wood jointed body with original finish but wear on fingers and peeling on knee joints. Wearing lovely maroon satin dress with ecru lace trim and layered underwear and vintage shoes and socks. A large and beautiful chunky child! Size 32" T.

First Series Portrait Jumeau Bebe

Lot # 608 (Sale Order: 9 of 574)      

An exceptional first series Portrait Jumeau mkd “0” with the highly desirable almond eye cut, mauve shadowing, greyish/blue spiral eyes, original skin wig, and on the proper early 8 ball jointed composition body. Nice original finish to body(toes on right leg re-glued)and dressed in a newer French style bebe outfit(lacking shoes). A really nice example of an early Jumeau Bebe!! The bisque head has been inspected and appears to be free of any eye chips, hairlines etc. however the original skin wig has not been fully removed. CORRECTION: The doll`s wig & cork pate have been carefully removed for inspection of the bisque head, there are no signs of any damage to the bisque head. The head retains its original compression spring apparatus connecting the head to the torso and the composition torso is fully marked with the typical blue Jumeau stamping.

She has an open mouth with upper teeth, a tongue & on her original jointed teenage composition body with good original finish. Appropriately redressed in a white pique suit. The second is a mkd K * R 100 (50 centimeters tall), an exceptional size with a solid dome, original finish to the composition body and wearing lace-trimmed baby gown and underwear. Kid over Wood French Fashion

Desirable French Fashion on a fully articulated kid over wood body except lower arms which are painted wood. No visible markings on the bisque head or shoulder plate, head is free of damage however the shoulder plate has a small chip at rear of neck which has been filled & colored. A most pleasant look about her with cobalt blue eyes and finely painted facial features. The brown mohair wig, cork pate, & red leather boots appear to be original to the doll. Redressed, most likely in the 1980s, in an appropriate style dress. Leather body overall is in good to very good condition with no normal wear. Other than mentioned above the bisque head appears to be free of hairlines, eye chips, cheek rubs, etc. Size 18" T.

A later closed mouth Tete Jumeau on her original finish composition & wood “pink” body still retaining her coil spring in head. Overall pleasing bisque coloring, large blue paperweight eyes, and nice painted facial features such as her mouth and lashes. Sweetly dressed in a white cotton layers, she still has her original leather shoes mkd 10 w/bumble bee on leather soles and quite possibly her original human hair wig & cork pate. Head inspected and appears to be free of any hairlines, eyechips, cheek rubs however she does have a long factory mold line running just below the rim above her right ear. No visible when wig is in place and not an after market damage but rather a factory flaw!! Size 21 - 1/2" T.

Steiner Gigoteur Bebe

Lot # 623 (Sale Order: 24 of 574)      

Created to compete with German counter parts and attract the childs attention this French bebe had a clockwork mechjanism contained within its torso that when activated the dolls arms would move, the head would turn from right to left, the legs would “walk” all while the doll utters “momma”/”papa”. The red colored hand tied mohair wig(glued to head)appears to be original, doll has no clothing however the rear of body is stamped with identifying mark of “Le Petit Parisien” BEBE STEINER. Beautiful nicely colored bisque with blue paperweight eyes the mechanism is in functional condition. The bisque head has been inspected & appears to be free of any damage however the wig has not been completely removed. Size 17" T.
