Shishigashira Mask

This Shishigashira is a mask actually used for Shishimai (lion dance) in Japan. The shishimai performed at the time of festival or something of celebration and popular in China and other Asian countries. The dance is to mimic the lion movements.
It is contained in the black-lacquered wooden box.

Monju Bosatsu is a Bodhisattva associated with transcendent wisdom in Mahayana Buddhism.
72-Plate Suji-Kabuto Helmet and Menpo Mask
Time Period: 16 - 17th century (late Muromachi - early Edo era)Original
72-plate russet-iron helmet (Kabuto). The back part is near perpendicularly, the top part is flat, and the front part is protuberant. It has Hachimanza (the hole of the top part) that is 5-section, plating with bronze. It also has four rivets (Shiten-no-byo), Kyoko (holes to pass ornamental strings), and Kasajirusi-tsuki-no-kan. The Mabisasi is Hitaigane style, relatively largely overhung forward. The Kosimaki-ita with Sankou-byo (three rivets), tacking down the Haraitate-dai with Nakabyo (rivet). Haraitate-dai has a shape of W.
The Maedate (front ornament) has the shape of Sanskrit characters: Vajrabhairava. The Fukikaeshi has two sections. It is pasted Egawa (a deerskin which a design is pictured in); depicting a lion and the peonies (a common combination in Japanese art), designed with the family crest of Date, with plated Fukurin, and seven Kozakura-byo?The second section of Fukikaeshi follows Shikoro. Shikoro has five-section Itazane with Iyozane style, laced in dark-blue Odoshi lines, both ends of fourth section is laced in purple Odoshi lines. It has a laborer that does not disturb the movement of both shoulders.
The Mengu (mask) is russet-iron, with four section of Tare; made even with Kabuto. The nose has deep ridge, the nasal passages has a shape of fan. Its winkles are made very boldly, the shape of the chin is delightful.

Classy Gusoku Armor - Nimaido Gusoku Laced in Purple Odoshi Lines -

All laced in purple lines; the color had been considered noble. And all plated decorations are high-elaborated.
the Kabuto: 62-plate Koboshi-Kabuto helmet black-lacqured on iron. The Hachigane (shape of the helmet) is sharp. The helmet has six-sections Hachimanza with bronze-plated. The Mabisashi is Hitaigane style, with Fukurin which is engraved by a technique called hairline inlaying, fasten with four Kogikubyo nails. The Maedate is made with Nerigawa. The Fukikaeshi has two sections, put Egawa, set plated Fukurin, designed with a family crest, and fasten five Kozakurabyo nails. The second section follows the Susoita. The Shikoro has a shape of Manju (sweet bun); the five-sections of Itazane is laced in purple Odoshi lines with Kebiki style. The Susoita is decollated with Takuboku-Odoshi lines.
the Mengu: Menoshitabo of russet iron. The part of nose is removable. It has three-sections Tare laced purple lines.
the Do: It is the style of iron Kirituke-Moriage-Zane. It has not been decorated at all, therefore the purple Kebiki-Odoshi lines are emphasized. The parts of the shoulders have Shoji-ita with Goishi-Gashira style, three-sections Kohire, and light green Nishiki. The Kusazuri is Shichiken-Godan style (five sections) made with Nerigawa.
the Sode (sleeves): Each have seven sections, the style of Hon-Kozane, made with Nerigawa. The Kamuri-Ita is black-lacquered and set plated Fukurin, and the Kesho-Ita is put Shobu-Gawa and decorated with Hasso-Kanamono and Mizuhiki.
the Sangu: All Ieji (cloth attached on the ground) is unified in Koshino style. Signed on the left Kote hand armor and Dated on the right Kote hand armor, therefore you can know that the Sangu was made by Myochin Munekoto in 1850. The details on his biography are not known well. We guess that the product except the Sangu were made in mid Edo era (18th century).
the accessories: paper Saihai, Gunsen (the rub is little missing), Kegutsu shoes, Ukedutu, and armor box (Gusokubitu).

Originally, Kinkarakawa is European high-grade wall paper. In 17th century (Early Edo era), Kinkarakawa made in Spain was imported from Netherlands, so that it was very expensive in those days. This product was processed to cigarette case in 19th century (late Edo era), made in Kinkarakawa.
