Russet-iron Menoshita-ho Mask
Time Period: 16th century (late Muromachi era)Width: 16cmLength: 23cm
We can know the information that Myouchin Munekatsu guaranteed that it was made by Myouchin Nobuie, by rubrics on the back side. Whether the rubrics is right or wrong, it is certain that this product was made by Nobuie. It was large as a whole, he exhausted his skill in the expression of the winkles. There are holes to set the hair of animals on the area under the nose and under the lips, but not has been reused. Three-section iron plate (tare) is laced in dark-blue line with kebiki style.
Nobuie had been active as one of the greatest armorer in late Muromachi era. Munekatsu, who rubricated, had been active in mid edo era, and rated high in Edo city. However, Munekatsu lost his credit because he issued written expert opinion to excess, finally he was excluded from the Myouchin's family record.

Russet-iron Hara-ate Armor Inlaid Siddham Script (Bonji)
Time Period: 19th century (late Edo era)
Hara-ate is the most simplified Japanese armor in Kamakura - Muromachi era. It is simpler than Haramaki or Doumaru which is very light shape, only protects the front and the both side of the body. It is similar to the protector of Kendo (Japanese fencing). It is easy to attach and detach Hara-ate because of its lightness, but the defense is very low. It is thought that Hara-ate developed into Haramaki.
It is thought that Hara-ate appeared as an armor for a low-class soldier in Kamakura era, and became popular as a light armor in Muromachi era. High-class soldiers and monk soldiers wore Hara-ate as a stab vest. Hara-ate was made as a revival model in Edo era. The notice is also the revival model armor made in late Edo era.
The hara-ate is rubricated "made by Shimada Tokuzaemon Sadahide" on the back side.
Comes with paper box.
There are many little rubbings, flaws and discoloration because it is an antique. Please purchase with caution.
