All felt doll with light brown complexion portrays a rajah seated on cushion, pressed and painted facial features with narrowed side- glancing eyes, painted eye shadow, broad nose, widely smiling mouth, wrapped felt turban, plump body posed in seated position with bent knees and right elbow. Very good , few minor moth holes, fading. 16" Rare French Salon Jester Doll, Symbol of Mignapouf Department Store of Paris 200/500

Lot # 24 (Sale Order: 24 of 60)      

16" (41 cm.) All cloth doll, with pressed and hand-painted facial features, large brown side-glancing eyes, muslin torso and arms with velvet tunic, silk-wrapped jointed legs with velvet upturned slippers; the costume is decorated with silver and coral painted tassels and belt, and the jester wears a silk hooded cap with wide wings. Original label "Mignapouf, 12 rue boissy-d'anglas, paris". The Parisian department store specialized in children's fashions, toys and dolls, 1920s/1930s, and in their advertisement illustrations by such famed artists as Maggie Salcedo and Rene Vincent featured a jester frolicking with stylishly dressed children.
