Fine Pair Of British Center Hammer Turn Off Pistols by Bunney

Lot # 14 (Sale Order: 14 of 1029)

.57 caliber, 6 1/2" brass cannon barrels. These large pistols feature brass frames which are engraved in beautiful period scroll with ribands on either side of frame reading "BUNNEY" on left and "LONDON" on right. The cocks, frizzens, triggers and triggerguards are all of iron and bear a dull gray patina. The brass frames and barrels bear a lovely untouched patina and show Birmingham proofs on bottom of frame. The flat-sided grips show lovely silver wire inlay along with oval shaped silver monogram plates in the back of each grip. The condition of the grips is very good with a good deal of original oil finish remaining and with virtually all of the original silver wire inlay remaining. The grip of one pistol was broken and repaired long ago and there is just a little missing wire in this area, less than 5%. The repair is neat and not overly obtrusive. These pistols are early as Joseph Bunney was active in Birmingham (but marking his guns "LONDON") from 1765-1814. We would date these pistols the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. A very handsome, fine and unusually large pair of British center hammer flintlock turn off pistols. (7727-1) {ANTIQUE}

Excellent Rogers & Spencer Army Model Percussion Revolver

Lot # 15 (Sale Order: 15 of 1029)

serial #1874, 44 cal., 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore showing a few very widely scattered very light spots of oxidation. This is a lovely revolver in very fine condition retaining much original blue showing only light flaking. The barrel and frame retain about 97% bright original blue finish with the areas of loss being very minor flaking to brown, also showing a few scratches and handling marks in the areas of the screw heads. The cylinder shows roughly 70% original blue with one area toning to a dull pewter gray, no doubt where it rested in a drawer, also with a turn line and flaking to brown. The hammer and loading lever show nice mottled dark gray color case-hardening, the ram more of a silvery case-hardened patina. The triggerguard/grip frame retains perhaps 90% original blue, the loss is due primarily to flaking to a gray-brown on the frontstrap and butt. Winchester Model 12 Slide Action Shotgun in Original Factory Box

Lot # 17 (Sale Order: 17 of 1029)

serial #1918476, 12 ga., 28" plain barrel choked full with a bright excellent, likely unfired, bore. The metal surfaces on this fabulous shotgun retain 99% original blue, the only loss is due to some extremely light rub wear, likely when the gun was assembled when-new and placed in some sales rack at a local gun shop. The light rub wear consists of some very light wear on the barrel from the magazine tube guide, some light light wear on the magazine tube itself and a few very tiny scars at the left side of action above the slide bar cut. The carrier is brilliant with absolutely no wear and there is barely any discernible wear on the bolt, with hardened oil still on the bolt face and headspace ring. The stock rates excellent to as new, the buttstock showing box rub on its left side nearly its full length, the right side with a few very superficial light scuffs also with a very light age flake here or there, most prominent atop the wrist. The box itself rates excellent with the expected minor oxidation and oil stains from the years. The box bottom shows a tear through one of its edges, the box lid with a couple of small impact marks along one lower edge. The label is 97% intact, the serial number fully legible. Really an absolutely super model 12, basically as-new, appearing unfired, unused, since it left Winchester in 1961. (37771-15) {C&R}

Winchester Model 12 Slide Action Shotgun in Original Factory Box

Lot # 18 (Sale Order: 18 of 1029)

serial #868308, 12 ga., 28" solid rib barrel choked modified with a bright excellent, likely unfired, bore. The metal surfaces retain 98-99% original blue, the loss due only to some extremely light handling wear, no doubt from when the gun was assembled in some dealers shop, then disassembled and put away. There is little or no wear on the carrier with only slight wear on the bolt, the breech face with old hardened oil; there is a very light scratch on the right receiver flat opposite where one normally finds a reassembly scratch, no doubt from some helpful salesclerk unfamiliar with how the arm assembled. The smooth walnut pistolgrip buttstock and grooved forend rate excellent, the left side of the butt showing very slight box rub wear, a similar amount on the right side. The arm includes its original box, correctly end labeled and serial numbered to the gun. The box bottom rates very good with only one tear and with the internal softwood end supports. The top is somewhat tender with numerous taped repairs, a piece missing at one corner and numerous tears through the lid; the original label is 93% intact and fully readable, the end label is in a similar state of condition; there are remnants of some taped repairs and there is some cellophane tape still present. Included in the box is an original Winchester hardwood migratory waterfowl plug with wrapped Winchester label stating it is for models 1901, 97, 12; and an original Winchester "Important Instructions for Model 12" pamphlet which describes the takedown, assembly and operation of the gun. Overall an absolutely superb model 12 which appears unfired, un-used since leaving New Haven in 1941. (37771-14) {C&R}

The carrier shows no wear at all and the side of the bolt only the slightest amount of minimal wear with both breech face and headspace ring immaculate. There is the odd light handling mark here or there but one must really hunt for them to see them, primarily a few extremely light scratches atop the receiver. The smooth walnut pistolgrip buttstock and grooved forend both rate excellent to as-new, the buttstock with some light box rub wear and a tiny handling ding here or there and a 1" scratch on the front of the pistolgrip itself.
