(A) Rare Factory Engraved Maltby Henly & Co. Revolver.

Lot # 10 (Sale Order: 10 of 702)

Manufacturer: Maltby Henly & Co. Serial No. 5251 Caliber: .32 S&W Barrel Length: 3-1/4” FFL Status: Antique The Maltby Henly name was used by and for Otis A. Smith Revolvers. Barrel is stamped “New York” but the Smith company was in Rock Falls, Connecticut. The revolver and engraving are similar to Hopkins & Allen products of the era, especially the engraving, which is nearly identical New York engraving with the familiar punch-dot motif. Virtually nothing is written about this company and these revolvers are almost never seen. This is the first factory engraved model we are aware of. It is a five shot, double action, solid frame, loaded through side port, with ornate carved black composite grips, factory nickel finish, fully engraved and case colored trigger. This revolver shows no signs of having ever been fired. There is no cylinder burn. Strong bore. Near mint grips. Retains approximately 97% of the original factory nickel finish. This handsome 19th century revolver is housed in a “Geo. Tritch” marked shoulder holster and also stamped “3-1/2” for length and “.32” for caliber. An interesting and high condition 19th century undercover dress gun. Would have been worn by gentleman in New York City in the 1880’s and 1890’s.
