Marble end pages, interior good. Davis (1812-1882) spent many of his years in northern Africa. "From 1856 to 1858 he was engaged on behalf of the British Museum in excavations at Carthage and Utica" of which this is a popular account.

Mrs. Graham grew up in Scotland under the ministry of John Witherspoon, then came to New York in 1789 and, guided by the ministry of John Mason, founded widows' and orphans' societies. The life was written by her son-in-law, Divie Bethune, and the selections from her diary and letters were made by her daughter Joanna Bethune.
