.50 caliber, 36" octagonal barrel with W.A.T on top flat. Maple stock checkered at the wrist. Brass mounted with two-piece patch box and silver inlays. A Gothic R on a silver plaque on top of wrist. Double set triggers.

Condition: Good; later sights added. Missing ramrod. Stock shows dents and dings. Metal has a rich brown patina.

European Flintlock Pistol

.530 bore diameter, 5" round barrel. Iron triggerguard with finial. Brass band, wood stock.

Condition: Metal is grey and black stained.  Has a coat of clear varnish to preserve it.  Missing top jaw and screw. Overall good.

Engraved Powder Horn, Lot of Two

Lot # 303 (Sale Order: 4 of 541)      

16" engraved horn with six separate pie-wheel themed motifs. Base of horn rendered with volute pattern. Butt plug with six-pointed star surrounded by four raised carved concentric circles.

Second horn is 12" with carved image of a sporting dog. Throat of horn with raise carved rings and matching raise carved spout.  

Condition: Horn with dog theme has .5" crack and a few small holes.

Large 18th Century Engraved Powder Horn

Lot # 304 (Sale Order: 5 of 541)      

15.5" horn with crudely fastened pewter spout and cap with four pierced hearts in between two tiered rings connected by a 1" pewter bar. The horn's body is in two tiers - part of the top tier's exterior surface has been removed. This region features a raise carved abstract image of a duck with a tiny raised carved duck nearby. A crudely carved letter "X" is carved on the opposite side. Lower tier of the horn is engraved with "ZHB", an engraved heart with stylized border with a triangular pattern rendered inside. Second smaller heart with same stylized border and trefoil patterned engraving inside. Horn is further engraved with a crudely rendered ship and a posed human figure looking onward. Images of other smaller vessels plus several images of fish, horse, turtle and an unusual sea creature. The horn also features some random letters and numbers. Plug with a raise carved eight-pointed star.

Condition: Pewter spout is heavily worn; the bottom half of the horn shows much use and is dried out. Good.

Folksy Engraved Powder Horn Dated 1818

Lot # 305 (Sale Order: 6 of 541)      

Measures 10.5" through the curve.  Marked near the base and above the wood pegs "Rogers Carlton NBD".  Many different images and scenes are depicted on this horn.  There are several Masonic images such as the square and compass.  Naval scene using several ships and a canoe.  Several varieties of animals and fish including a snake, birds and patriotic eagle motif.  There are geometric shapes and religious symbols.  Image of woman with naked breast and a gentleman firing a rifle.

Condition: This is a fine example of a folksy engraved horn with many different images and scenes.  Maintaining an untouched yellowing patina.  Missing the throat and spout.

Original Georgian Kindjal

13" spear point blade, overall length 19.25".  Highly chased silver mounted leather scabbard.  Horn handle.

Condition: Excellent.  Blade may have been cleaned and is now a dull grey with some staining.  Leather is excellent and the silver has a nice patina.

29.5" curved blade with clip point, also has etched panels near the hilt.  Brass crossed guard with white bone style handle.  Metal scabbard trimmed in brass.

Condition: Scabbard is a grey metal with some staining.  Blade also is grey with some staining.  Scabbard is missing the throat.  Overall good.

Massachusetts Brig. Genl. Officer's Frock Coat, Model 1851 Officer's Hat by Benton & Bush, Boston

Lot # 310 (Sale Order: 11 of 541)      

Plus Epaulets, Buckle, Sword Belt with Hangers and Stirrups. Navy blue wool post-Civil War Brigadier General Officer's coat, epaulets, buckle, sword belt with hangers and stirrups.  Coat is double breasted with rows of 8 buttons marked with a harp and "Mass Volunteer Militia."  Buttons are properly spaced for Brigadier General Officer's frock coat.  6.5" bell-shaped elbows and the skirt measures 17" to rough edge.  Bullion collar with 4 button cuffs. Center vent on the back with 2 sets of 2 buttons.  The Model 1851 Officer's hat made by Benton Bush with navy wool body and leather visor.  Red silk lined with maker's mark.  2.5" leather sweat band.

Condition: Generally overall good condition with the buckle, epaulets, sword belt and stirrups.  Coat has light mothing and staining.  The lining inside the jacket displays tears consistent with use.  The inside seem at the skirt is torn.  The officer's hat is in good condition with mothing.  The leather visor is loose on the right side.  The insignia on front of the officer's hat displays "2nd Brig" over "MVM".  Officer's hat comes in original box.

Civil War Cap Box Belt and Sword Knot

Lot # 311 (Sale Order: 12 of 541)      

Lot includes: Leather Civil War era sword knot, cap pouch with wool and pick, marked WATERTOWN / ARSENAL / 1863 on inner flap. Two partial leather pieces, one from a musket sling and one from a waist or shoulder belt.

Condition: Fair to very good. Two partial leather pieces are well worn. Sword knot is flaked and crazed with moderate wear. Cap pouch is in about very good to fine condition retaining the interior wool and vent pick. Mark is clear and all stitching is tight. Leather retains the majority of its original finish with only some minor crazing and loss.

U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1816 Flintlock Musket, Type II

Lot # 313 (Sale Order: 14 of 541)      

.69 caliber, 42" round barrel. Barrel marked with a circle proof over an eagle head and a V. Tang dated 1827. Lockplate marked with an eagle over US and marked Harpers Ferry 1830 at rear. Reconverted to flintlock from percussion. Walnut stock with three barrel bands, tulip head ramrod and US marked buttplate.

Condition: The barrel has a mottled patina with pitting around the nipple. The lock has pitting as well. The stock shows normal wear. The bore is poor but the action is good.

Civil War Wooden Hilt Sword

35" blade length with a 23.75" double fuller. Faint markings on the ricasso only showing the last few letters. Wooden hilt.

Condition: This is a blacksmith "put-together," possibly for Confederate use. The wooden hilt is generally in good condition showing age with nicks and dings. There is a 2" crack from the ricasso toward the handle. The blade has an even dark patina. The marking on the ricasso is faint only showing the last few letters.

US Civil War Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword by PDL For Tiffany, New York

Lot # 317 (Sale Order: 17 of 541)      

30.5" single-edged spear point blade. 21.25" long by 0.5" wide stopped fuller and 14" narrow fuller near spine. Brass guard and hilt with shagreen grip wrap with twisted wire. Obverse ricasso etched: WARRANTED TO CUT / WROUGHT-IRON / TIFFANY & Co / NEW YORK. Blade etched with panoplies of arms, foliate scrolls and splays, eagles and a ribbon with E PLURIBUS UNUM on the obverse and US on the reverse. Leather scabbard with brass mounts.

Condition: Good to very good overall. The blade retains traces of the original bright polish, but has darkened with age and shows moderate staining and oxidation over most of its surfaces. The etching remains mostly visible and marks are legible and traces of the frosting remain. Hilt has a medium golden patina and the wrap remains in very nice shape, retaining the wire with only minimal wear. The leather scabbard shows light to moderate wear, minor finish loss and scuffing. It remains mostly solid and the brass mounts have a nice, uncleaned patina. Throat is loose and the sword does not fit completely into the scabbard, leaving about 1/2" of the blade proud of the throat.

6.5" clipped-point blade. horn slab handle with coffin-shaped German silver pommel and inlaid mother-of-pearl circle. Red suede leather sheath with German silver tip and throat. Knife from the Dr. R. Charles Griffith Collection.

Condition: Blade has been lightly polished. Handle and German silver have nice patina.

American Naval Dirk

5.75" blade length and 9.75" overall length.  American-style wood grips with square pommel and feral.  The quillons have an acorn-style finial at each end.

Condition: The blade has pitting blending to an overall dark patina.  The square wood grip shows age with nicks and dings.  Metal surfaces have an even gray patina blending to a darker patina.

Civil War Bowie Knife Attributed R. Heinisch Newark, NJ

7.375" spear point blade.  Iron bird head pommel handle which is distinctive of Robert Heinisch of New Jersey.  Iron "S"-shaped guard.  Leather scabbard with brass throat. 

Condition: Handle is excellent with nice brown patina.  Blade is very nice with brown staining.  Leather scabbard is missing the tip. Leather is very good.  Overall an excellent example of a rare American made Bowie knife.

6.25" spear point blade, markings on each side of the blade "Buck Brothers."  German silver ferrule and guard with rosewood handle.

Condition: Blade is in good condition with salt and pepper pitting blending to a patina.  The markings are good but fading. The handle is in good condition with minor nicks and dings. The German silver ferrule guard has a nice even patina.
