Condition report for genset: Following inspection and partial repairs to genset the following is noted -
• valve train and injectors, no concerns noted following removal of valve cover for inspection.
• engine rolls around by hand smoothly, and cranks independently of control system. Without proper power supply to engine ECU however it remains in shutdown mode.
• general condition of engine appears to be good, with minor maintenance needed, but all falling within normal service
• At start of project it was found that the VOLVO ECU had failed. This was tested by VOLVO and found to be defective due to internal failure. New ECU was ordered and installed from VOLVO, response of engine control system was improved via additional readout info on display following installation of new ECU. Following this however start failure was still in effect and now issues were noted internally in the control board that is related to the OEM genset manufacturer, and outside of VOLVO parameters.
• All indications lead us to believe that if the control board issues can be repaired this engine will start and run well. Use of this engine in another application may even be possible working with a newer control system.
