Very Rare German Bisque Art Character, 125, with Painted Eyes by Wizlizensus 7500/9500

15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head, very full cheeks, small blue painted eyes eyes with black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with smili...moreng expression, accented lips, row of sculpted teeth, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 125 4. Comments: Adolf Wislizensus, circa 1910, the firm advertised a series of "charakterpuppen" that year, naming the series "Gretchen" and noting "all character series with painted as well as movable glass eyes"; the model was shown in their 1911 advertisements. Value Points: very rare character with wonderful laughing expression, very choice bisque and painting of complexion and features, antique schoolgirl costume.

Bisque socket head with sculpted brown hair at the sides of head, cut pate, painted facial features depicting an adult man, sharply-defined features, strong ...morenose, tiny brown painted eyes, thick brushstroked brows, incised age lines, closed mouth with firmly-set lips, dimpled chin, composition body with jointing at shoulders and hips, painted black boots. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Dressel, circa 1900, from their series of historical heroes of the Spanish-American war, this model presenting William McKinley, US President during that war. Value Points: wonderfully preserved doll, among the rarest to find from that series, is perfectly preserved, wearing original military costume.

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: F.B. 616 1. Comments: Fritz Bierschenk, the Sonneberg dollmaker registered this singular head model, 616, in 1908; few examples appear to have been made as evidenced by their rarity. Value Points: beautiful portrait like doll with distinctive features and body, finest bisque and painting, original wig, body, body finish and costume.

All-cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features and hair, dark brown hair with forelock curl, tiny flat modeled nose, small painted eyes in shade...mored green color with thick brown and black upper eyeliner, closed mouth with solemn expression, two pronounced chin seams, stitch-jointed arms, wide hips, disc-jointed five seam legs, flat-stitched hands known as "frog hands". Condition: generally excellent, arms darkened, some wear to feet. Marks: (partly legible marking 249). Comments: Kathe Kruse, their early model known as "frog-hand" referencing the distinctive shape of hands, made in 1911 only. Value Points: especially appealing example of the very rare doll with original beautifully-painted features and hair, antique costume

With original Steiff button in ear. Generally excellent, mohair is very lush and full, one paw pad repaired, other paw pad has a small spot. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 2 (head) Au Nain Bleu/E., Chauviere Blvd des Capucines 27/Paris (original paper label on body). Comments: French, circa 1876, Edouard Chauviere had succeeded his father at the prestigious Parisian toy store at that time. Value Points: near mint condition of the very beautiful poupee, with original store label, fine original wig, earrings, bonnet, leather heeled shoes marked C.C, unusual round purse with hankie inside, undergarments, and chemise. Her original couturier gown is also included albeit the jacket is very frail.
