Colt Cavalry Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 29 (Sale Order: 29 of 499)

Colt Cavalry Single Action Army Revolver, #116804, .45 Colt cal., 7.5'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish with one-piece cartouched walnut grips, Mfg'd 12/9/1885. Ca...morept. Frank Heath inspected with left side of grip neatly stamped ''1885/FH''. Frame, barrel, cylinder and left butt of grip inspected with David F. Clark (DFC) sub-inspector markings. Because this revolver remains in its basic Cavalry configuration (all matching numbers including grips and 7.5'' barrel), we can surmise that it escaped the 1893 recall by the Ordnance Department for alteration to the Artillery configuration. John Kopec notes in the accompanying letter that in 1886 there were 633 revolvers issued to various states including 400 to North Carolina and 100 to New Jersey and it is a good chance that is where this revolver went. Condition is excellent as refinished long ago with 94% thinning blue to barrel, cylinder, ejector rod housing, backstrap and triggerguard. Frame and hammer with nearly 90% vibrant hues. Grips are fine with clear original markings and knackering on left portion of butt. Action is excellent, bore is bright. A very nice Cavalry revolver indeed. Est.: $6,500-$9,500. (Antique)
