Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate with Dehors neck articulation, blue glass inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, delicately painted lashes...more and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, all-wooden poupee body with swivel waist and dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4 (doll) A La Poupee de Nuremberg, 21 Rue de Choiseul, Lavallee-Peronne, Paris (paper label on doll). Comments: French, circa 1870, the doll was presented as Lily by the prestigious Parisian doll shop, A La Poupee de Nuremberg, owned by Jeanne Lavallee-Peronne, who worked closely with the journal, La Poupee Modele, to market her dolls and which described her as a "doll maker of exquisite taste". Value Points: wearing a very fine antique ivory silk gown, the beautiful poupee has rare wooden body with deluxe articulation, rare neck articulation allowing infinite posing, and her important boutique label.

Four Wooden Grodnertal Dolls with Original Costumes and Family Provenance 2500/3500

Each is all wooden with heart-shaped face, elongated throat, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted complexion and black hair wit...moreh shaded tendril curls around the face (the two larger with tuck combs), carved and painted facial features, complexion painted arms and lower legs, painted shoes. Condition: generally excellent, original finish on each albeit some light craquelure. Comments: Grodnertal, circa 1840. Value Points: the dolls are wearing wonderful original costumes enhanced with passamenterie, silk flowers, and seed pearls. Provenance: the dolls have resided in the 16th century Griffith estate of Carreglwyd, Anglesey, England, likely acquired during her travels by Maria E.E. Conway-Griffith, a mid-1800s heir to the estate who was an inveterate adventurer and notable collector of curious and interesting objects of all nature.

Condition: generally excellent, some typical minor body repair. Marks: Brevet Bte SGDG Huret 22 Blvd Montmartre Paris (original green stamp on torso). Comments: Adelaide Huret, circa 1855, during that year she exhibited her poupee at the 1855 International Exposition in Paris where her dolls were described as "an ingenious idea, of very high quality, solid articulations, accurately assembled, perfect taste in the doll dressing." Value Points: an outstanding example of the sought-after important French signature doll, with original signed body, wearing her original costume and undergarments, black and royal blue silk bonnet, and very rare blue silk ankle boots with Huret stamp on the sole.

All carved wooden doll with one-piece egg-shaped head and shapely torso with defined bosom and waist, elongated strong throat, inset black enamel eyes, all-a...moreround dot painted lashes, single stroke brows with dot accents, defined pointy nose, closed mouth with firmly-set lips, original facial complexion with cheek blush spots, original brunette wig, cloth upper arms, wooden lower arms with fork-shaped fingers, simply-carved wooden legs with dowel-jointing at hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: English, early 1700s, the doll bears a very close resemblance to the famous wooden doll once belonging to Letitia Penn. Value Points: rare early doll is all original including painting and costume, wearing superb silk and brocade gown with original trims, matching woven bonnet, necklace, stockings with applied trim, black leather attached shoes with wooden soles and red buckles, and with attached crewel embroidery purse. Also included is an early box with two additional bonnets, and another box containing an early chatelaine. The doll is preserved in an early wooden box with transfer-printed early paper lining, and which also contains an early hand-lettered indenture paper for a British property, and an 18th century satirical print titled "People of Consequence".
