Colt New Service .44 Russian Rare Condition

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 26 of 251)

Colt New Service was Colts first large caliber swing out cylinder revolvers. .44 Russian was one of many calibers it came in and is one of the more desirable calibers. At the time it was a great target round and stout projectile for war or personal defense. This example has the original hard rubber grips and high polished blue frame. Trigger, hammer, and screws exhibit the fire blue unique to colt in that time. Factory letter confirms original barrel length and shipment originated to New York City.

Excellent antique condition. The bluing is over 90%, and all original. Rubber grips are intact and appear to be original. Function is excellent. No rust, repairs or any distractions.

1884 DFC Inspected Colt SAA Cavalry Revolver

Lot # 26 (Sale Order: 27 of 251)

Factory letter confirms that this Colt Peacemaker Single Action Cavalry Model revolver was manufactured in 1884 and inspected by Captain Frank Heath and Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that states it was one of 100 guns shipped to the U.S. Government on December 3, 1884. The revolver has the patina and remnants of the military blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer are formerly color casehardened and now have muted espresso patina with faint flow marks of the case hardening left. The frame screws are original and show signs of fire bluing but show signs of repeated use. The one-piece walnut grip is oil finished. The ejector housing has the bullseye ejector rod head utilized until early 1885 and cavalry style hammer with extended, bordered knurling on the spur. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the fourth style elongated block address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/three-line patent marking followed by the "U.S." property mark. The small "D.F.C." sub-inspection mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel, bottom of the frame above the serial number, side of the chamber and on the right grip heel. A small "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel ahead of the "D.F.C." sub-inspection mark and on the side of the cylinder. A "G" Colt inspection mark is stamped below the serial number on the trigger guard and back strap. The lower left side of the grip is stamped with the date "1884" above the Ordnance final inspection stamp which consists of the encircled script monogram "FH". The Ordnance sub-inspection stamp which consists of the script initials "DFC" in a rectangle with rounded ends is stamped on the lower right side of the grip. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "1722". The full serial number, "113324", is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match

Good to Very Good, all original matching parts. No repairs, no major distraction. Function is excellent, surprisingly solid and smooth for age. No slop at all while working the action. All bluing and finish has turned to a dark patina. Some older pitting on the underside of barrel in crevices. Some light pitting on surface. Bore has been inspected and exhibits strong rifling, but moderate pitting. Grips are solid with one noticeable indentation mark on the bottom right side.

Colt New Army 1892 DA .38 Revolver

Lot # 43 (Sale Order: 44 of 251)

Colts first standard issue swing out revolver. Like many, this one has had the serial number rubbed out on the butt and the lanyard removed. "RAC" inspector markings (Ronaldo A. Carr) are located on the back of cylinder, with several small sub-inspector marks visible on the latch, underneath the barrel, cylinder, inside the frame, and on the crane. The barrel on the Model 1892's were serial numbered to the rest of the gun, which was unique to the first year DA's. This gun has a barrel that is numbered to the frame which identifies it as unique to the Model 1892. This can be definitively identified as one of the original 1st Contract Model 1892's that was produced in the year 1893 upgraded by Colt or Springfield Armory to the 1894 (hence the 1895 patent date on the early barrel). Left side of barrel is marked "COLT D.A. 38".Other numbers are assembly numbers and do not necessarily mean replaced parts. Checkered walnut grips are probably replacements (done by an individual or factory) as the 1892 military had smooth walnut. We feel that this was re-blued at some point in the early 1900's. The bluing is period correct however there are several "RAC" inspector marks missing as well as the info on the butt.

Very Good to Excellent, Despite the many changes, these were done by Colt or SA. The re-bluing looks older and Pre-1960. Grips look original colt and heavily worn, but probably not original to this gun.
