Class: Antique
Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish on the barrel and receiver. The receiver and side plates have most of the original blue finish with some edge wear on the side plates and scuff marks on the dust cover rail. There are several spots of age discoloration and some very light scratches on the side plates and sides of the receiver. The blue finish on the dust cover is thin and has small patches of age spotting. Nearly all of the professionally refinished blue finish is present on the magazine tube assembly and forearm cap. The buttplate has typical handling wear and retains about 50% of the blue finish with light pitting on the heel. Most of the dark case colors are present on the hammer, trigger, and sides of the lever. The bottom of the lever shows handling wear, and the case colors have aged to a brown patina. The stock and forearm are in fine condition. The forearm is dark, and the finish is worn. The stock retains nearly all of the original finish but has scattered, minor handling marks with a sliver of wood out of top right at frame juncture. This is a very fine example of a desirable Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle.

New Haven Arms Henry Lever Action Rifle
Lot # 3010 (Sale Order: 11 of 959)
Offered here is a Civil War era Henry Lever Action Rifle as manufactured by the New Haven Arms Co. in 1863. The rifle has the distinctive Henry "gun metal" brass receiver, German silver blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight (missing the elevation slide) and empty sight dovetail on top of the receiver. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line patent date/address marking ahead of the rear sight and the serial number "1693" at the breech. This serial number is also stamped on the left side of the lower tang, stock inlet, buttplate and both buttplate screws. The buttplate is the First Style with rounded heel which was eventually replaced in the mid 4000 serial number range with a sharp pointed buttplate heel. The buttplate has a hinged brass trapdoor. A four piece hickory cleaning rod is included. The left side of the barrel and buttstock have a factory loop for a sling hook and sling swivel respectively. Experts believe that most Henry rifles made before 1865 were privately purchased by individual federal soldiers who wanted the unprecedented firepower offered by the 15-shot Henry repeating rifle. The Henry rifle was especially popular with soldiers in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky regiments. Many of these soldiers purchased Henry rifles from dealers in Louisville, Kentucky, and other Midwest cities in 1864 using re-enlistment bounties.
Class: Antique
Very good plus. Streaks of original blue finish remain on the barrel and magazine, otherwise a smooth dark brown patina. The fine original, untouched brass has an attractively aged appearance. The stock is fine with a number of dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
Silver-Plated, Deluxe Engraved New Haven Arms No. 1 Volcanic
Lot # 3011 (Sale Order: 12 of 959)
New Haven Arms Co. No. 1 Volcanic Pocket Pistol manufactured c.1860. The New Haven Arms Co. manufactured approximately 850 No. 1 Pocket Pistols with .31 caliber, 3 1/2-inch barrels between 1857 and 1860. This pistol has a silver-plated brass receiver with deluxe Germanic scroll engraving on a punch-dot background. The engraving features star-burst designs surrounding the lever screw, a stylized hounds head in the scrollwork on the left side plate and elaborate punch-dot, cross-hatched with dots and wheat chaff borders. The engraving is very similar to the "New York" style engraving executed by Louis D. Nimschke on Colt revolvers and is almost certainly an early example of Nimschke's work. The barrel and six-shot magazine have a deluxe high polish blue finish, and the hammer, trigger and finger-lever are color casehardened. The cartridge elevator, trigger spring, bolt and rear sight are fire blue. The two-piece factory grips are stamped on the inside with the pistol serial number. The pistol has a steel front sight blade on the barrel and dovetail mounted rear sight on the receiver. The hammer has fine border-less knurling on the spur. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the New Haven Arms Co. legend: "NEWHAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB. 14. 1854" in one line reading toward the breech. The serial number is stamped on the left side of the butt beneath the grip. All of the visible serial numbers match. Special factory grips of this material are rare on any Volcanic pistol. Although many New Haven Arms Co. No. 1 Pocket Pistols were factory engraved, the deluxe engraving on this pistol is far more elaborate than the simple scrollwork utilized for New Haven Arms factory engraving. The high polish blue finish on the barrel and silver plated receiver are also indicative of a special order, deluxe engraved pistol.
Class: Antique
Very fine. This pistol is all original and retains 80% of the original high polish blue finish on the barrel and at least 90% of the silver-plated finish on the receiver. The bolt, cartridge elevator and rear sight retain significant amounts of the fire blue finish. The hammer, trigger and finger lever have about 70% of the mottled case colors with some silvering. The detailed and flawlessly executed scroll and punch-dot engraving and elaborate border work is crisp and sharp. The grips have yellowed slightly but remain in fine overall condition with several small stress lines visible on both bottoms. This is a very rare example of a New Haven Arms Co. No. 1 Pocket Pistol with deluxe engraving and finish and special factory grips.

Winchester Deluxe Model 1887 Shotgun, Factory Letter
Lot # 3018 (Sale Order: 19 of 959)
The Winchester Model 1887 was the first highly successful repeating shotgun. 64,855 were manufactured in 1887-1901. Most prior shotguns were single or double barrel break actions. The Model 1887 held six shots and could be fired rapidly. It is no surprise that this fine arm was based on designs by John M. Browning given his long and productive relationship with Winchester. Production of this model began just two years after Browning sold his single shot design to Winchester. The Model 1887 built upon the solid reputation of Winchester?s lever action rifles and carbines that were already in widespread use throughout the country. Many Model 1887s replaced double barrel coach guns used by "shotgun messengers" employed by express companies and lawmen throughout the country. Cochise County Sheriff John Horton Slaughter is known to have been fond of these six shot repeaters. The accompanying factory letter lists this shotgun with a 32 inch fine Damascus barrel in 10 gauge and fancy checkered pistol grip stock when received in the warehouse on January 6, 1898, and shipped on March 30. The letter lists a returned and repaired date (April 28, 1898). The barrel is fitted with a single bead sight and is marked with the two-line address and "10/FULL." The left side of the frame has the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. monogram. The bottom of the receiver at the front has the serial number, and the lower tang is marked with the four-line address/patent dates information. The left side of the wrist is stamped "T. TYLER" in small letters (unidentified individual at this time). Mounted on highly figured and checkered forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with checkered steel buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "364 XX." "364" is repeated on the stock inlet, and the buttplate has the number "311." Length of pull is 12 3/4 inches. This gorgeous shotgun was formerly part of the Felix Bedlan collection.

Gun "A" was manufactured in 1921, has a bore pull through contained in the buttplate compartment and retains the original period hanging tag numbered to gun. All five guns fit in a period correct Winchester crate specifically marked for Model 1895 .30 Army carbines chambered in .30 Army. The crate was originally intended to ship 10 guns, which leaves five more guns to find to complete this set! Four casters have been added to the bottom of the crate, and the original wooden top has been replaced with a piece of glass for display purposes. Four period Winchester "General Instructions" booklets are also included.
