NU D Sensual Nude Woman Mikio Watanabe Art Mezzotint

Lot # 10105 (Sale Order: 16 of 673)

"I am absolutely convinced that at the heart of all things existing in this world, there is something very simple and pure which goes beyond the complexity of appearances," says the artist Mikio Watanabe. This conviction, perhaps, is what makes Watanabe's mezzotints of the naked female form so mesmerizing: Title: "Nu D" ("Nude D") 1988 Mezzotint on Rives Numbered from a limited edition of 75, plus XV Roman Signed in pencil in the margin LR Sheet: 11 × 15 Image: 4¾ × 5½ Hinge residue top edge verso; slight creasing in the margins L Otherwise very good - excellent condition Certificate of Authenticity Watanabe creates a mezzotint by repeatedly pressing a curved, serrated mezzotint rocker over the surface of a copper plate until has received many thousands of tiny indentations from this tool. This procedure is extremely time-consuming — most of the plates take 70 - 80 hours to produce — but plates made this way yield velvety blacks that can be obtained no other way. After the entire surface of the plate has been roughened, scraper and burnishers are used to raise tones of gray and white. "During the slow process of engraving, as I scrape the burrs that I have incised on the copper plate and then polish it, the sensitivity which lies inside me can be revealed. Giving shape and light to what was before absolute darkness, I try to feel this universe of purity which exists deep inside the human body," says the artist. Mikio Watanabe (Japan, b. 1954) completed his studies in Tokyo in 1977 and settled in Paris, where he learned engraving techniques at the Atelier 17. Since 1981, Mikio Watanabe has focused on mezzotint and his works can be found in many public collections including Bibliotheque National in Paris, the Central...more

Manon Elder CROSSROADS Motorcycle Art Canvas Medium

Lot # 10114 (Sale Order: 25 of 673)

Offered here is a very handsome and collectible limited edition "Moto" art print by well-known artist Manon Elder:

  • "Crossroads"
  • Giclée on canvas
  • 20 × 44
  • Limited edition of 200
  • Signed by the artist
  • Excellent condition; never mounted, matted or framed
  • Certificate of Authenticity
This biographical information is from the artist's web site:
Manon Elder's initial travels into motorcycle art started in 2001 when the subject of a portrait sitting asked to be painted on his Harley. She obliged and was surprised by her attraction to painting chrome surfaces and mechanical intricacies. Intrigued by the relationship between motorcycle and the rider, Elder — a portrait painter for 15 years before that — saw the glimmerings of a new path open up. She found that the motorcycle culture resonated with her own desire to experience new adventures in new locations.
"In 2003, Elder had a chance to pursue this new inspiration and did so with an enthusiastic vengeance. She has immersed herself in understanding the essence of the riding experience: the relationships between the bikes, the riders and the landscapes they travel through.
"Before a photo is taken or a brush dipped in paint, Elder gets to know the riders and their bikes. She focuses on capturing the energy of the moment as well as the multitude of details that must be accurately rendered on canvas. While paintings are in progress, many of her motorcycle-rider subjects offer her guidance to ensure the authenticity of their bike's structure. Attention to detail is a hallmark of her work."
An exciting addition to any collection or décor!
