I think that you can attach any meaning that you want to my work. It's up to you, the viewer. Mostly, I just have fun with the paint and attempt to put the imagery in my head on canvas. Why that imagery? Where does it come from? I don't know, it just appeals to me."

Paul Goodnight FEET DON'T FAIL ME 1996 Olympics Poster

    Lot # 10152 (Sale Order: 53 of 631)

This marvelous poster by well-known artist Paul Goodnight was created for the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996:

    • Title: "Feet Don't Fail Me Now"
    • Poster on glossy paper
    • 22 × 34
    • Excellent condition; has been stored rolled; never mounted, matted or framed
We love this comment by Edmund Barry Gaither, Director of the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists on the art of Paul Goodnight: "Coltrane blows. We hear the plaintive sound — and more. Billy Holiday sings. We hear the melancholy wail — and more. Paul Goodnight paints. We see the animated figures — and more. Between the horn and the man, there is confession. Between the voice and the woman, there is truth. Between the paints and the painter there are revelations. Revelations of his consummate skill as a draftsman, of his sensuous colors and often revealing forms, or his ability to see between the figures, melding them into an environment of endless nuances where his own passions infuse the picture with human resonance.

"Paul Goodnight's art — inspired by his travels to diverse parts of the black world, and energized by his willingness to live life fully — opens a world of women, men, and children who, though on paper and canvas, are familiar, intimate, and engaging. Paul Goodnight's art offers rich evidence of his artistic mastery, visual and compositional audacity, and love of ordinary black people. His art delights the eye and satisfies the spirit. In short — it lives."

    Lot # 10179 (Sale Order: 80 of 631)

This "Pit Stop" isn't exactly the kind that a race car driver takes, but it does portray life in the fast lane. This print is full of style, and the excitement of getting ready to go out on the town. Artist: Pat Clark Title: Pit Stop Medium: Lithograph Image Size: 21 x 26 inches Sheet Size: 23 x 28 Signed in pencil, lower right Numbered from an edition of 950, lower right Excellent condition; never mounted, matted or framed Certificate of Authenticity issued by Midwest Estate Buyers    Born and raised in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Patricia R. Clark always dreamed of travel and adventures far beyond the city limits of her hometown. After graduation with the Class of 1944 from Iowa Falls High School, she pursued her goal to see the world and embarked on a career that would allow her to live and work in dozens of countries around the globe.    At U.S. embassies and consulates from Sudan to Vietnam to Paris to Kazakhastan, Pat Clark worked for the U.S. Department of State in many capacities. Her trademark enthusiasm and friendliness always helped her find friends and, over the years, she found she had a special interest in art. Wherever she was posted, she made a point of collecting a work of art that reflected the culture surrounding her. Sometimes she would meet an artist and commission him or her to paint a particular landscape or attraction. Other times, she d visit an artist s studio or gallery to choose a piece of art that particularly appealed to her because of its cultural connection. Unlike many collectors, Pat Clark never focused on one style, period or type of art. She looked for an authentic cultural expression by the artist and that expression took many forms from culture to culture.    The collection...more

Stan Solomon Abstract Art Print COMET

    Lot # 10180 (Sale Order: 81 of 631)

Offered here is a dynamic abstract print by the popular contemporary American artist Stan Solomon:

    • Title: "The Comet"
    • 1990
    • Limited edition serigraph on black paper

    • 24 × 37 inches
    • Excellent condition; never mounted, matted or framed
    • Certificate of Authenticity
    • Retail gallery price USD 1000
We appreciated Stan Solomon's "Artist's Statement" and quote it here: "This is simple.... I don't have one. If there is anything to say about my work it has to be said by someone else. Julie, who has worked with me for over 25 years, says, 'Each piece is like a love letter from the 'Land of High Whimsy'.... whatever does she mean? I think that you can attach any meaning that you want to my work. It's up to you, the viewer. Mostly, I just have fun with the paint and attempt to put the imagery in my head on canvas. Why that imagery? Where does it come from? I don't know, it just appeals to me."
