Winchester Third Model 1873 Lever Action Musket

Lot # 3001 (Sale Order: 2 of 929)

Near New Winchester Third Model 1873 Lever Action Musket

This is a truly exceptional example of a Winchester Model 1873 Musket manufactured c. 1902. The musket has the standard features which include 30 inch round barrel, full length magazine, three barrel bands with sling swivel on the middle band, block mounted iron front sight that also serves as a lug for a socket bayonet, military style folding leaf rear sight rear sight with 900 yard center notch, stock sling swivel and carbine style steel buttplate with sliding brass trap. The butt trap contains a five piece jointed steel cleaning rod. The upper tang is factory drilled and tapped for a sight. The Third Model receiver has an integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The rifle has a blue barrel, magazine, barrel bands and receiver with niter blue loading gate and casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate. The stock and forearm are straight grain walnut with a varnish finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." ahead of the rear sight. "44 W.C.F." is stamped on the top of the barrel at the breech. "44 CAL" is stamped in script letters on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang is roll stamped "-MODEL. 1873.-" is script letters with foliate devices at either end of the marking. The lower tang is stamped with the serial number between the lever latch and the tang screw. This musket appears to be part of a group of 700 muskets in the 569,000-571,000 serial number range that were shipped to Central America in September 1903. These muskets were apparently never issued and were re-imported to the United States in the late 1950s in new un-fired condition.

Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun

Excellent plus. The musket retains 98% of the original blue finish on the barrel, magazine, receiver and other components and shows only very limited storage wear. The hammer, loading lever and buttplate have 97% of the vivid case colors. The loading gate has nearly all of the niter blue finish. The stock and forearm are both excellent plus with wear limited to several very minor storage marks on the stock and some thinning on the finish on the underside of the forearm between the lower barrel band and the receiver. The markings are sharp. This near new example of a scarce Winchester Third Model 1873 Musket that would be extremely hard to improve upon.

Civil War New Haven Arms Co. Henry Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 3004 (Sale Order: 5 of 929)

Fine Civil War New Haven Arms Co. Henry Lever Action Rifle

This Henry lever action rifle was manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company in 1864. This rifle has the second style brass receiver without the rear sight dovetail and first style buttplate with rounded heel and hinged buttrap. The distinctive octagon barrel with integral 15-shot magazine has a square-back, nickel silver front sight and folding leaf rear sight. The rear sight has a 900 yard center notch, elevator bar stop screw at the top of the leaf and elevator bar with rounded ends. The magazine has the second style, large diameter, brass follower, and the receiver has the second style, beveled follower cut. The left side of the stock has a factory sling swivel, and the left side of the barrel has a screw-fastened loop for a sling hook. The sling swivel and loop were standard features on Henry rifles in this serial number range. The buttplate has a hinged trap door and hand fitted buttplate screws. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the second pattern, two-line New Haven Arms Company legend. This second style legend is slightly larger than the first style legend used thru about serial number 3500 and uses all serif letters. The serial number is stamped on: (1) the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver, (2) the left side of the lower receiver tang, (3) the upper stock tang inlet, (4) inside of the buttplate and (5) the shanks of both hand-fitted buttplate screws. All of the visible serial numbers match. The tang screws are, correctly, not serial numbered on Henry rifles in this serial number range. The receiver and buttplate have the natural brass finish. The barrel/magazine, rear sight and bolt are blued, and the hammer, trigger and lever are color casehardened. The straight grain, American walnut stock has a varnished piano finish. The Henry rifle was the most advanced rifle available during the Civil War. The U.S. Ordnance Department purchased on 1,731 Henry rifles during the Civil War, and only one regiment, the 1st District of Columbia Cavalry was entirely armed with Henry rifles. However, large numbers of Henry rifles were purchased by individual federal soldiers who understood the value of a 15-shot repeating rifle. Experts believe that most of the Henry rifles manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company between 1862 and 1865 saw some Civil War service.

Class: Antique

Fine. This rifle is all original and retains 30% of the blue and color casehardened finish on the barrel/magazine, hammer, trigger and lever. The blue finish on the barrel/magazine has faded to an attractive dove-gray patina. Significant amounts of the original blue finish are visible in protected areas. The factory legend and serial number are crisp, the edges of the barrel are sharp and the metal surfaces are smooth and free from scratches or pitting. The brass receiver and buttplate remain in very fine condition with a fine looking, un-polished, patina. The side plate joints are fine with only a few insignificant dents along the upper edges. The frame, side-plates and buttplate show minimal handling wear. The hammer, trigger and lever retain considerable amounts of the original muted case colors in protected areas; contact points on the bottom and sides of the lever have a gray-brown patina. The screw heads are all in fine condition with minimal wear. The stock is in very good overall condition and retains 80% of the original piano finish with a few scattered and very minor handling marks. This is a good-looking, original, example of a desirable Civil War production Henry lever action rifle.

Winchester 1886 Rifle Engraved by Ulrich for the World's Fair

Lot # 3005 (Sale Order: 6 of 929)

Documented Factory Exhibition Engraved and Silver Inlaid Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Fancy Sporting Rifle Signed by John Ulrich with French Fitted Presentation Case

This factory engraved Winchester Model 1886 Fancy Sporting Rifle was manufactured in 1889 and is illustrated and described on page 163 of "Winchester Engraving" by R.L. Wilson. The Wilson description states that this rifle was part of the Winchester display at the Exhibition Universelle (World's Fair) in Paris in 1889. The description further states that this rifle was discovered in South America and returned to the United States in 1977. The presentation case lid has a plaque inscribed for a "CARLOS DOSE/ARMSTRONG." The exact details on Carlos Dose Armstrong are somewhat difficult to pin down. Most would refer to him as Carlos Dose as that is his first surname. He is listed by his full name as having his seal engraved by Agry in Paris in 1880 and as living in both France and Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1862-1924. He was descended from Don Tomás Georges Armstrong, himself a descendant of a noble family from the British Isles, who came to Argentina in 1820 and was a financier/banker. Carlos Dose Armstrong owned the palatial Dose Armstrong mansion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries which had classical European designs. "Bulletin of the Pan American Union Vol. 38" from 1914 records: "A fund of 3,000,000 pesos currency ($1,273,404) known as the ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION has been provided by Dr. Carlos Dose and sister Luisa Dose de Larraviere for the purpose of founding the Santo Tomas de Aquino school an institution whose object is to educate gratuitously 400 Argentine children Grounds have been acquired in the vicinity of Buenos Aires and the necessary buildings are in process of construction." A funeral service for him is noted in Paris. This provides an insight into how wealthy the family was. The rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter that describes Model 1886, serial number 28694, as: "Type: Rifle, Caliber: 45/90, Barrel Type: Round, Trigger: Plain, Checkered stock, Pistol grip, 1/2 Magazine, Engraved $10.00, Barrel inlaid", and "Blued". The letter further notes that this rifle was received in the Winchester warehouse on March 18, 1889, and that the order number was listed as "Paris." The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine tip, forearm cap, receiver, bolt, loading gate, and crescent buttplate and a color casehardened hammer and lever. The barrel has silver inlays at the breech and muzzle. The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured, 3X or 4X, fancy grain walnut with Winchester "Style H" checkering and a piano finish. The bottom of the pistol grip has an ebony inlay. The muzzle, breech, forearm cap, buttplate heel, bolt, hammer, lever and the sides, top and bottom of the receiver are decorated with factory engraving which consists of scroll, border and outline patterns. There are game scenes on either side of the receiver. The right side of the receiver above the ejection port is engraved with a small scene that depicts a hound chasing a rabbit. The left side of the receiver features a highly detailed woodland scene showing a hunter shooting a bull elk. The rifle has the tiny, block letter, "J.ULRICH" signature of Master Engraver John Ulrich immediately in front of the trigger. The barrel has a sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a buckhorn, sporting style rear sight with screw-adjustable center piece. The upper tang is factory drilled and tapped. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "-< MANUFACTURED BY THE >-/-< WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN.U.S.A.>-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber: "45-90 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the barrel center-line between the rear sight and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped "-MODEL 1886-". The 1884 and 1885 patent dates are stamped behind the trigger, and the serial number, "28694," is stamped in script numerals between the lower tang screws. The rifle is complete with a leather covered, oak frame case with a round brass plaque on the top engraved "CARLOS DOSE/ARMSTRONG". The inside of the case lid is gold embossed: "EXHIBITION UNIVERSELLE/1889/GRAND PRIX". The case contains ten cartridges and cleaning tools.

Class: Antique

Very fine. 70% of the blue finish is present on the barrel; wear is limited to some finish loss at the muzzle and some scattered traces of surface discoloration. The fine original silver inlays are untouched and attractively tarnished. The scroll engraving and factory markings are crisp. The blue on the forearm cap is thin and 50% remains. 70% of the blue is present on the receiver with thinning on contact points. The flawless scrollwork and highly detailed game scenes are crisp. New Haven Arms Company Volcanic Lever Action Carbine

Lot # 3011 (Sale Order: 12 of 929)

Scarce New Haven Arms Company Volcanic Lever Action Carbine

This Volcanic lever action carbine was manufactured by Oliver Winchester's New Haven Arms Company c. 1857. This diminutive carbine has the "Type I" ribbed barrel and serial numbered lever that indicates it was assembled from parts manufactured by the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. The 16-1/2 inch barrel and integral 20-shot magazine are blued. The barrel has a "pinched" blade front sight. The top barrel flat is very faintly roll-stamped with the New Haven Arms Company legend: "PATENT NEWHAVEN" in one line (the remainder of the marking is illegible). The receiver and crescent buttplate have a natural brass finish. The receiver has a dovetail mounted, blued, sporting style rear sight with thumb wheel elevator. The hammer, lever, and trigger are casehardened. The straight grain American walnut stock has a high polish varnished "piano" finish. The right side of the loading lever is stamped with the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company number "2276". The New Haven Arms Company serial number "28" is stamped on the stock butt beneath the buttplate, on the inside of the buttplate heel, and on the shanks of both of the hand-fitted buttplate screws. The stock could not be removed to check the serial number on the left side of the lower receiver tang or the tang screws. The New Haven Arms Company manufactured approximately 1,000 carbines with 16-1/2, 21, and 25-inch barrels between 1857 and 1860. Most of these carbines had 16 1/2-inch barrels. The New Haven Arms Company Volcanic carbines are scarce and historically important; both as one of the first successful repeating arms to utilize a self-contained cartridge and the direct predecessor of successful Henry and Winchester lever action rifles.

Class: Antique

Fine. The carbine retains 60% of the original blue finish on the barrel/magazine. The faint markings on the top barrel flat are the result of New Haven Arms alteration of the original Volcanic Repeating Arms Company markings on the Type I barrel. The magazine follower is missing, and the magazine has a period replacement round follower head. The distinctive brass receiver and buttplate are in very good overall condition; the brass has not been polished and has a dark, un-touched patina. The edges of the side plates show some light wear, and there a several light scratches and handling marks on the sides of the receiver. The rear sight retains traces of the niter blue finish. The hammer, trigger, and lever have a mottled brown patina. The straight grain walnut stock is in excellent condition and retains nearly all of the original finish with a few scattered and very insignificant handling marks. This is a very good example of a historically significant, early production New Haven Arms Company Volcanic lever action carbine. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.

Class: Antique

Excellent. The musket retains 97% plus of the original nickel-plated finish. Finish wear is limited to some very minor flaking on the rear sight leaf, loading gate and tips of the upper and lower receiver tangs. There are a few scattered and very insignificant handling marks on the sides of the receiver. The barrel legend and serial number are extremely crisp. The stock and forearm are excellent overall. Excellent. This rifle is all original and retains 98% plus of the bright original blue and vivid color casehardened finish overall. Small amounts of dried grease are present on the sides of the barrel above the forearm. The barrel legend and caliber designation are crisp. The bolt has nearly all of the bright blue finish with dried grease along the edges of the extractor. The blue on the loading gate has faded slightly but 95% remains. Small amounts of dried grease remain in protected areas. The case colors on the crescent buttplate have faded with age discoloration and light pitting at the buttplate screw, heel and toe. The walnut stock and forearm both remain in excellent condition; nearly all of the semi-gloss finish remains, and wear is limited to a few scattered and very insignificant handling marks. This is an exceptional example of a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with very scarce, special order 30-inch octagon barrel and very desirable casehardened receiver.

Rare Winchester Model 1894 Experimental Musket with Bayonet

Lot # 3014 (Sale Order: 15 of 929)

Documented, Extremely Rare and Exceptional Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Experimental Musket with Bayonet from the Winchester Factory Collection

This extremely rare Model 1894 was manufactured circa 1909 by the Winchester factory to test the feasibility of a Model 1894 in musket configuration. Very little is known about these muskets, and it has been speculated that they were built in pursuit of a government contract. According to Winchester collector Rob Kassab, four Model 1894 muskets, including this example, were identified by serial number in the "Inventory of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company Firearms Reference Collection," a detailed listing of firearms held by the Winchester factory prior to the arms being transferred to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's Cody Firearms Museum in the 1970s, and out of the four, this is the only one built to accept an angular bayonet, as the other three were designed for a saber bayonet. Author Robert Renneberg states "that there were five true musket examples: all were produced experimentally and all were originally in the Winchester Museum reference collection." Nevertheless, this is an incredibly scarce Winchester. The musket features a bayonet lug/pinned front sight, folding ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards, oil finished full length musket type forend and stock, three barrel bands, solid crescent buttplate and sling swivels. The left side of the barrel has the two-line Winchester address/patent date marking, the two-line nickel steel marking and the caliber designation. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. The only Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the receiver at the breech. Includes the original bright polished, unmarked socket bayonet. This musket was featured on the cover of the included 2007 Winter issue of "The Winchester Collector" magazine with the cover article by Kassab on page 23 and in the 2nd edition of Renneberg's "The Winchester Model 94: The First 100 Years" on page 53 and is identified as the only one of its type in private hands.

Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun

Excellent, retaining 95% plus bright original blue finish showing bayonet wear and some spots of dark spotting mostly on the right side of receiver. 97% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever, and 90% plus muted original case colors remain on the buttplate. The stock is also excellent with minimal handling evidence. The fine bayonet has mostly a bright appearance. Mechanically excellent.

Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 3015 (Sale Order: 16 of 929)

Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle with Desirable Henry Patent Barrel Address

Manufactured in 1868 as a second model with the single upper tang screw. The rifle has the highly desirable Henry patent barrel address ("HENRY'S PATENT-OCT. 16. 1860/KINGS-PATENT-MARCH 29, 1866") stamped ahead of the rear sight on the top flat. The barrel is fitted with a dovetailed blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight (elevation bar is absent). The bolt remains in its original .44 rimfire configuration. The serial number is correctly stamped on the left side of the lower tang. Sling swivels are mounted on the underside of the buttstock and forend cap. The rifle has a blued octagon barrel, magazine and loading gate and distinctive brass receiver, forearm cap and crescent buttplate. The trapdoor buttplate is numbered to the gun. Mounted on a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock. The '66 secured Winchester's place in the annals of the West and launched a long line of successful Winchester lever actions that remain popular to this day and still retain the basic form of the '66.

Class: Antique

Very good plus. The barrel retains 20% original blue finish, otherwise the barrel and magazine tube have a smooth dark gray patina. Traces of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. Patterns of original case colors remain on the hammer. The brass has an attractive appearance with an indentation visible rear of the loading gate on right side plate. The reoiled wood is fine with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A solid example of the famed Model 1866 Rifle that will be a welcome addition to your growing Winchester collection.

Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Flat Side Lever Action Carbine

Lot # 3018 (Sale Order: 19 of 929)

Desirable Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Flat Side Lever Action Carbine with George Madis Letter

This is a rare early Winchester Model 1866 carbine that was manufactured in late 1866 and includes a hand written 5 page letter from George Madis (undated) that documents the various early features of the carbine. It has the following: (1) Henry and King patent dates on the barrel, (2) flat loading port cover, (3) twoscrew upper tang and (4) Henry style rear receiver profile. The barrel has the first style barrel band with integral front sight blade and early style, two-position hinged leaf rear sight marked "300" and "500" yards. It has the early first pattern threaded magazine tube end cap. The left side of the receiver has the original factory installed staple and saddle ring. It has the first pattern, long, coarse, borderless checkered hammer that lacks a half-cock notch. The lever loop is the early small size. The carbine has a Henry style crescent brass buttplate with pointed spur and brass trapdoor. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the first style legend: "HENRY'S PATENT-OCT. 16. 1860/KING'S PATENT-MARCH 29. 1866." in two lines between the lower barrel band and the rear sight. The lower left side of the tang is correctly stamped with a small assembly number (325) followed serial numbered. Inside the cutout area for the upper tang the buttstock and lower end of the brass buttplate are both correctly stamped with the full matching serial number. The buttplate is correctly fitted with a trapdoor for a cleaning rod (which is not included with this lot). The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut. The barrel, magazine, barrel bands, and loading gate are blued. The hammer, lever, and trigger are casehardened. In "The Winchester Book", author Howard Madis estimated that the total number of First Model 1866 rifles and carbines manufactured was approximately 3,500 guns equally divided between rifles and carbines. He further estimated that the survival rate for these early Winchesters was about 25% and that "less than 875" First Model 1866 rifles and carbines were available to collectors.

Class: Antique

Very good overall with half of an old professionally rebrowned finish still remaining on the barrel and magazine tube. The receiver and side plates have a very nice aged mustard yellow patina. The buttstock is in very fine condition with a nice original dark brown matching color with the "Henry bump" still visible. The forend is very good showing scattered dings and deep weathered scratched on front. Mechanically excellent. A really nice looking, seldom encountered early first model Winchester 1866 saddle ring flat side carbine.

Indian War Veteran John Haag's New Haven Arms Co. Henry Rifle

Lot # 3019 (Sale Order: 20 of 929)

Historic and Well-Documented Indian War Veteran John Haag's New Haven Arms Co. Henry Lever Action Rifle with Extensive Provenance

This Henry lever action rifle was manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company in November 1864. The rifle falls within the serial number range (7000-8000) of the 500 Henry rifles purchased by the Ordnance Department on April 7, 1865, to arm the 3rd U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry (USVVI) Regiment. However, the serial number 7066 is not one of the serial numbers of the 3rd USVVI Henry rifle listed on page 75 of "The Historic Henry Rifle" by Wiley Sword. The extensive documentation that accompanies this rifle indicates that it was purchased from the direct descendants of John Haag. John Haag was a veteran of the Indian Wars who served in the 1st Infantry Regiment in 1875-1880. In a copy of the Great Falls Tribune dated July 25, 1931 (which accompanies this rifle) the front page headline reads "JOHN HAAG, INDIAN FIGHTER, PIONEER OF FALLS, IS DEAD." The article details highlights of his service and states: "Mr. Haag took an active part in the campaign against the Northern Cheyenne and Sioux Indians in Wyoming and in the hills of South Dakota. At one time he was under the command of Nelson A Miles: a prominent figure in northwest history. His company with others made one of the longest forced marches in the history of Indian fighting." The article goes on to state, "Mr. Haag also became acquainted with several well known western characters of the time including Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok." In 1876, Haag participated in the Little Bighorn Campaign and was present at the Little Bighorn Battlefield on June 27th, 1876, when Generals Terry and Gibbon relieved the survivors of the 7th Cavalry commanded by Major Reno and Captain Benteen. Haag subsequently fought in the Nez Perce campaign under General Miles in 1879. Following his service in the Montana Territory, he served at Army forts and camps in Texas and the Southwest. After his discharge from the Army in 1887, Haag settled in Great Falls, Montana, where he worked as a cabinet maker and carpenter until his death in 1931. The documents included with the rifle do not disclose when Haag obtained this Henry rifle, serial number 7066. The rifle has the distinctive octagon barrel with integral 15-shot magazine and brass receiver and buttplate. The rifle has the later production features that include a sharply pointed buttplate heel, second style receiver without the alternate rear sight dovetail, second style barrel legend and large diameter magazine follower. The buttplate has a hinged trap door, the hammer spur has borderless knurling, and the barrel has a nickel-silver front sight blade. The left side of the barrel and the straight grain, oil-finished American walnut stock are not fitted with the loop and sling swivel found on most late production Henry rifles. The barrel is fitted with the two-leaf rear sight from a Winchester Model 1866 carbine. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the larger, second style legend "HENRY'S PATENT. OCT. 16. 1860./MANUFACT'D BY THE NEWHAVEN ARMS CO. NEWHAVEN CT." with all Roman (serif) letters. The serial number is stamped on (1) the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver, (2) the left side of the lower tang, (3) the inside of the buttplate toe and (4) in the upper tang inlet of the stock. All of the visible serial numbers match. The late style, cap-head buttplate screws and tang screws are correctly not serial numbered. The initials "JER" are lightly inscribed on the bottom of the cartridge elevator in block letters. The rifle is accompanied by extensive documentation including Haag's service records and details of his life following his discharge from the Army.

Class: Antique

Very good plus. The rifle is in untouched, "attic condition" and appears to be completely original except for the rear sight which is a period replacement. The barrel has a deep untouched patina. The surfaces of the barrel and magazine are generally smooth with sharp barrel edges, crisp serial number and New Haven Arms Co. legend. The brass receiver and buttplate have not been cleaned and have a dark patina with patches of age discoloration. The receiver and buttplate have scattered scratches and handling marks and the side plates show the usual removal marks. The stock is good with light-moderate handling wear including several shallow dents on the right side of the stock. This is a well documented, western associated Henry rifle owned by a soldier who took part in the Little Bighorn and Nez Perce campaigns.

Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. Lever Action Navy Pistol

Lot # 3020 (Sale Order: 21 of 929)

Rare Gold Plated Factory Engraved Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. Lever Action Navy Pistol

The Volcanic Repeating Arms Company manufactured an estimated 1,200 Navy style pistols with 6 inch barrels between July 1855 and April 1857 when Oliver Winchester took control of the company and re-organized it as the New Haven Arms Company. Volcanic pistols and carbines are revolutionary and historically significant firearms. The top barrel flat is stamped "VOLCANIC/REPEATING ARMS CO./PATENT NEWHAVEN CONN. FEB. 14. 1854." These markings indicate the pistol was manufactured before Oliver Winchester reorganized the Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. as the New Haven Arms Co. in 1857. The receiver is decorated with the open scroll engraving used on factory engraved Volcanic firearms. The barrel and magazine tube are blued, the brass frame was originally gold plated over the original silver plating, and the hammer and lever are casehardened. Matching serial numbers are found on the grip frame and both grip panels. The lever has the number "682", likely a factory error as the serial number is "982." Volcanic pistols and carbines have a significant place in the development of American firearms. The combination of a self-contained cartridge, integral, multi-shot magazine and self-cocking lever action made Volcanic pistols and carbines the most advanced firearms of their day. The key features of the Volcanic pistols and carbines were refined and incorporated in the Henry rifle and Winchester Model 1866, 1873 and 1876 rifles and carbines. Finally, shirt maker Oliver Winchester's investment in Volcanic Repeating Arms introduced him to the firearms business.

Class: Antique

Fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain nearly 90% original blue finish with the balance a smooth blended patina. The frame retains much of the original gold plating with virtually all of the silver plating underneath, and the exposed brass has a very attractive appearance. The engraving is crisp. Patterns of original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The grips are fine with minor handling marks and retain most of the original finish. Mechanically excellent. 6 inch Navy Model Volcanics are exceedingly scarce, even more so are those with gold plated frames! Be sure to add this one to your early American firearms collection!
