Description

This auction begins with a fine selection of swords featuring US, German, Fraternal, Japanese, British and others including Confederate Nashville Plow Works Officer’s sword and a presented Civil War sword to an officer of the 7th Maine infantry. A large selection of edged weapons include US bayonets, Saber bayonets, German K98 bayonets, Luftwaffe daggers, Wehrmacht daggers, RAD hewers, HJ knives, gravity knives and others. Insignia and medals assortments feature German WWII insignia and pins, French and Belgian medals, ID’ed Purple Heart medals and a medal group of US Marine Corps General Gregon A. Williams, and more. German helmets and hats from World War 1 and World War 2 include Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, SS, Tropical and Luftschutz. Civil War Foot Officers Sword-7th Maine Infantry

Lot # 6013 (Sale Order: 13 of 307)      

United States Civil War foot officers sword measuring 36" (30.5" blade) with scabbard throat and ricasso marked "Ames Mfg.". Blade exhibits some rust and graying with shagreen grip exhibiting degradation. Leather scabbard in poor condition with dryness and break. Throat of scabbard engraved "Presented to Capt. J.B. Cook, Co. I, 7th ME Inf., Jan 14th, 1863". Captain John B. Cook (1838 - 1892) was commissioned 1st Lieutenant of Company K, 7th Maine Infantry on 21 August 1861. and promoted to Captain, Company I on 1 November 1861. He was severely wounded in the leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862. In January 1864 he was commissioned Major, 22nd US Colored troops and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, 5th US Colored Troops on 21 October 1864. He mustered out with them on 20 September 1865.
