Rug # 1, 140173, 2.11 x 4.9, Kerman Iran circa 1975. Hand spun cotton warp and weft support all hand spun wool with a-symmetrical knotting that has a slight warp offset. Dyes employed are vegetal with traditional colors such as the medium purple field. A very traditional central medallion in an open field with the broken borders that conform to the medallion. This carpet show some wear but has a lot of life left. Appraised Value $495.00....more

Beluch Afghan

Lot # 3 (Sale Order: 3 of 175)      

Rug # 3, BRC 13, 6.4 x 7.10, Belouch Afghanistan circa 1980. Hand spun wool warps and weft support an all hand spun wool a-symmetrical knot. Vegetal dyes along with the Turkoman eye for their terra-cotta red as a main field color are not a disappointment, the well placed use of blue, and white and green have been well thought out as well. This design is influenced by old Persian Oushak carpets and utilized in the main border we have a meandering with or scroll type border that some refer to as the scorpion. Some wear is evident but not an issue. Appraised Value $750.00....more

Rug # 4, 900100, 3.2 x 4.6, Balouch prayer rug Iran circa 1980. An all hand spun wool warp and weft foundation supports the all hand spun wool a-symmetrically knotted pile. Vegetal dyes from the Iran region have rendered a deep red that is the main color high lighted by both white and black blue coloration. Woven by Afghan Turkoman people with their classic tree of life motif prayer rug design while living on Iranian soil is hinted at booth with color and the use of a wool selvage rather than the goat hair multi border so often used by these people. Rug # 8, 80026, 3.7 x 5.9, Gabbeh Iran circa 1950. The all hand spun cotton foundation supports an all hand spun wool a-symmetrically knotted pile. Vegetal dyes are also mixed possible with some aniline dyes as the red and blue dye has stained the warps but without harm to the value, it just helps with dating. The design is influenced by the Qashqai with the medallion very obviously so but the web with its lack of a goat or wool warps but of few of the missing pieces to that puzzle. Vegetal dyes rendered a terra-cotta main color that is so loved in Afghanistan over the bright Iranian red which we also see in this rug. Rug # 13, 920104, 4.2 x 6.8, Afghanistan Balouch circa 1985. The all hand spun wool warp and weft supports an all hand spun wool pile a-symmetrically knotted with slight warp offset. Dyes employed are vegetal and show a very different side of the norm as they are very bright with lighter colors. The design is very unlike what one hopes to see (lack of a tribal identity) but well done, it is believed that the style here is politically influenced both with design and colors utilized. The trend in the last few years has reversed back to tribal design but with a much finer quality and defused tribal gul both major and minor. Appraised Value $1,162.50....more
