Superb Early Parfumerie with Chandelier and Mirrors for the French Market 1400/2100

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 377)      

12" (30 cm.) h. x 18"l. x 9"d. The light-wood open-front shop has an unusual three-sided back and two side facades that give dimension and a sense of greater size to the tiny size. The walls, of cobalt blue paper, are decorated lavishly with gold paper borders and raised-construction gilt papers that suggest carving (especially notable on the side wall frames). There are two mirrors, and liberal floral and cherub decoupage. There are three curved-front shelves at the sides and back, and unusual stepped shelves at the sides of the front counter. An ormolu and glass chandelier hangs above, a porcelain lady doll stands in attendance, and the shop is fitted with glass and paper mache perfume and toiletry jars and bottles. The exterior has original old paper-covered surface. Excellent condition. For the French market, circa 1875....more

French Bisque Poupee "Psyche" with Original Presentation Box and Mirror 1800/2800

11" (28 cm.) doll. 13" x 9" box. 7" mirror. A heavy card stock box with lavish padded rose silk faille covering and ivory rope trim, hinges open to padded pale blue silk interior, that contains a bisque poupee and her costumes and mirror. The swivel head lady doll has blue enamel eyes, painted features, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, shapely kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at hips, stitched and separated fingers and is wearing her original muslin chemise and earrings. Included is an original Psyche mirror with hinged sides allowing the mirror to tilt back and forth; the silvered-frame oval mirror has a reverse repousse design of winged Cupid and maker's stamp, and there are two additional costumes, undergarments, bonnet. French Automaton "Little Girl with Doll and Hair-Brush" by Leopold Lambert 5000/8000

Lot # 11 (Sale Order: 11 of 377)      

19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered base is a bisque-head doll with amber brown glass paperweight eyes, dark eyeliner, richly-painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. She is wearing her original magenta silk costume fashioned in the workshops of Lambert overseen by Eugenie Lambert, and holds a little all-bisque doll in her right hand and a hair-brush in the left, as though about to comb her doll's hair. When wound, the presentation is heightened by the movement, as the girl alternately lifts the doll, then the brush, while nodding and turning her head as though inspecting her workmanship; music play. Condition: generally excellent, some fraility to original costume, mechanism and music function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (doll) (original paper label indicating tune "Les cloches de Corneville" on underside). A very beautiful and original French automaton with enchanting movements of special interest in a doll milieu. French, Leopold Lambert, circa 1890....more

Extremely Rare and Wonderful 19th Century Chinese Tea Shop with Rare Contents 5500/8500

Lot # 16 (Sale Order: 16 of 377)      

26" (66 cm.) w. x 16"h. x 15"d. The wooden-framed shop has unusual arched front entry supported by richly laquered green and gold columns and two narrow side-front walls with display windows framed in cast brass; the facade has red lacquered finish and "Asiatica Tee Handlung" lettered sign and the brass-framed windows are set in blue painted walls with gold accents and applique images of Asian people. The lacquered finish continues around the sides and back with paper-framed engravings as accents. The floor is lithographed paper with heavy lacquered finish, and the side and back walls are completely fitted with shelving, slant bins and 16 tea drawers or cabinets, all with original red or black lacquered finish. There is a matching free standing counter of red lacquer with green lacquer top and brass coin slot, and a matching cast iron scale with brass trays. The shelves are lavishly fitted with an array of silk and paper-wrapped treasures, a carved bone frame, celluloid rickshaw, and, notably, 26 very rare tea tins with various lithographed scenes. A bisque doll with amber-complexion and original costume stands behind the counter. Excellent condition.
