Civilian Produced McClellan-Style Western Saddle

Lot # 333 (Sale Order: 24 of 134)      

DESCRIPTION: A very fine brown leather civilian produced McClellan-style Western saddle. The brown leather stretched over a good frame with harness, stirrups, and belly band intact. The fully covered stirrups have a wooden core surrounded by leather. Shield shaped plate on back of the saddle notes "11-1/2" Seat" on wooden saddle horse.
MEASUREMENTS: 37" x 11".
CONDITION: Leather is cracking and with some red rot. Wear consistent with use and age. Patina is excellent and saddle is probably late 19th or early 20th centuries.

Unusual Child's Western McClellan Saddle

DESCRIPTION: A fine small child's Western McClellan saddle consisting of saddle, two wooden strips and cotton belly band with fine steel and iron mounts. Unmarked. The saddle is displayed, and sold with, an unusual tripod stand. PROVENANCE: The saddle is accompanied by a copy photograph of a 19th century cabinet photograph of a young boy in a late 19th century U.S. Volunteers uniform. The young man is said to have been the owner of this saddle.
MEASUREMENTS: 28" x 10".
