Lancaster County PA German Folk Art Side Saddle

Lot # 335 (Sale Order: 26 of 134)      

DESCRIPTION: A very fine Pennsylvania German decorated leather side saddle probably produced in Lancaster city (Lancaster County), Pennsylvania. There are a small body of these saddles that were all produced in a number of shops in Lancaster County possibly for use as part of a woman's dowry. This example with finely tooled and polychrome tulips on the skirt. This example dating from the mid-19th century and in very good condition. The original calico under-fabric still intact. Unmarked. PROVENANCE: Exhibited in the 1970's by the Heritage Center Museum of Lancaster County.
MEASUREMENTS: 28" x 27" x 14".
CONDITION: Wear consistent with age and light use.

Fine Western Side Saddle & Harness Maker's Bench

DESCRIPTION: A nicely decorated Western side saddle probably late 19th century consisting of nicely tooled leather including on the pommel. Missing one stirrup, the other being a fine iron stirrup with a cut out central heart. Belly band is present but loose. Resting on a refinished early 20th century saddle or harness maker's bench consisting of a pine or fir base with wooden upright clamp held in place with a decorative clamp.
MEASUREMENTS: 20" x 14" x 23".

Very Fine & Rare Western Child's Saddle Texas

Lot # 337 (Sale Order: 28 of 134)      

DESCRIPTION: A punch-decorated Western child's saddle consisting of a shaped cow horn pommel tooled and punch decorated body and skirt, fringe and belly band. Missing stirrups. Old tag notes that it is a late 19th century child's saddle. Unmarked but the decoration is consistent with work done in Texas saddle shops of the period.
MEASUREMENTS: 21" x 18" x 14".
CONDITION: Missing stirrups. Dry and cracked. Wear consistent with age.

Fields); though a sewn-in fabric label is marked "Frances Rafferty", a B movie actress of the same period.

DESCRIPTION: Joseph Slockbower (American, 20th Century). 1992. Bronzed and polychrome pewter sculpture of Geronimo on a black marble base. Signed, dated, numbered 28/750, and inscribed "Chilmark, Fine Pewter, U.S.A.," verso of sculpture. Also with a plate at the front marked "'I give myself up to you… Once I moved about like the wind. Now I surrender to you and that is all.' Geronimo 1886." Slockbower is an artist of the Mill Creek Studios and is best known for his Native American and wildlife sculptures.
