Rare Autograph of Soldier John McKinney

Lot # 8000 (Sale Order: 1 of 506)      

Soldier's Pay Voucher - a pre-printed 8x11" Pay Voucher for "John McKinney, 2nd Lieut. 4th U.S. Cavalry" dated May, 1872 - showing he was paid $125 and that he received payment. The document is signed at the bottom "John A. McKinney, 2nd Lieut, 4th Cavalry" - the entire document has been filled by him. No location is given, but the date highly suggests he was somewhere in Texas. The document has a quarter-size light brown stain on the left edge, not affecting anything. Includes two biographical sketches.

Signed Arizona Territory Check

A 3x8" 1878 check from Tucson from the banking house of L.M. Jacobs & Co. Features black on white printing with a nice vignette of an Indian warrior with a rifle on a rocky ledge. The check is signed "E.B. Gage". Has very slight tear on the left edge with slight border loss.

Abstract of Posse Service

Lot # 8007 (Sale Order: 7 of 506)      

Pre-printed, one page, 8x14" document dated Sept. 30, 1986 - no location given, but would be in Indian Territory (Oklahoma). The document lists B. Dunn as the only possee member who assisted Heck Thomas as Deputy in the case of United States Vs Bill Doolin with $15 due to Dunn for his services as a posse member. The document has two staple holes at the top with tiny paper loss and two small tears at the top with archival tape repair on the verso (not noticeable), otherwise fine and frameable. The document is unsigned.

Cripple Creek mining millionaire, Burns (1853-1917) was a Scotch-Irishman who owned stock in 150 mining companies upon his death. Included in the lot are a pre-printed 7x8" James F. Burns pay voucher dated 1914 from Colorado Springs (Burns has proxy-signed an employee's name at the bottom adding "by Jas F.B."), and an issued 3x8" personal check of James F. Burns, dated 1909 from Colorado Springs. (Is signed James F. Burns and has a blue crayon-like check mark over the signature).

California and Oregon Stagecoach Waybill

Lot # 8012 (Sale Order: 12 of 506)      

Large 10x13" Waybill dated July 30, 1867 - has a bold title across the top "California and Oregon United States Mail Line" and it lists many passengers from Yreka to Marysville". Lists nearly 20 passengers including a Reverend, several women and one "Chinaman" with such destinations as "Sac. City, Twoer House, Shasta, Dry Creek and Marysville". The Waybill lists their charges and which stagecoach driver received them. On the verso is a schedule from Yreka to Marysville, where it lists the time of arrivals and the departures to the various stops inbetween the two towns.

Silver City Business Ledger

Lot # 8013 (Sale Order: 13 of 506)      

A 400 page 9x14" hard bound business ledger covering a period from 1897 to 1898 probably from a mercantile as it lists all sort of merchandise sold. The first dozen pages are a quick A to Z reference of the various accounts with the business followed by many pages of detailed transactions with each business - about half the 400 pages are filled out. All of the pages have a slight damp stain along the bottom half-inch of each page causing slight warbling toward the bottom of the pages - not bad. The leather spine has been separated from the ledger but is otherwise fine and internally sound and intact. Business who have accounts within the ledger include, but are not limited to, "Silver City Reduction Co. - Silver City Water Works - Mogollon Merc Co. Pacific Mill - Queen Mining Co. - SV Cattle Co. Exchange Saloon" as well as accounts in other towns.
