French Automaton "Lady with Harp" by Vichy with Portrait Face and Original Gown 9000/13,000

18" (46 cm.) Standing upon a beautifully-grained walnut base is a bisque-head lady, having portrait-like face with delicate complexion, blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, metal hands. She is posed behind a wooden harp with gold leaf accents, and is wearing her original (frail) rose and ivory silk gown with metallic thread trim. When wound, the lady turns and nods her head in an elegant refined manner, and plucks at the harp, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: attributed to Bing, who in 1921 created his Kruse-like dolls in an attempt to capitalize on those doll's popularity; a 1925 lawsuit precluded any further production making the dolls quite rare.
