General Info
Our business model is simple. We buy gemstones in bulk parcels from sources around the world to get the best wholesale prices. Most of the gems in each parcel, we set into jewelry. The rest, we auction off here on Proxibid. All gems sold in this auction are natural, mined from the earth, unless we specifically label them “Synthetic or Man Made” in the title of the lot. The gems that we sell here on Proxibid are the same gems we use in jewelry in the Jewel and Vine jewelry store located in the historic Rancho Bernardo Winery. Our estimated values are not overinflated, but have been directly determined by gemstone value charts at GemVal.com. There are a lot of companies out there selling synthetics as genuine gemstones, so be careful where you buy. All of our gems are checked by a certified gemologist, and most have slight natural inclusions of some kind, verifying that they're real. The retail price in the listing title for these stone/stones has been determined directly from the gem charts available at GemVal.com. Unlike many companies, we don't use overinflated estimates for our gemstones. The prices in the listings represent the real world value of the stones.

This Opal has a lot of color play and is very large. But it has quite a few imperfections as well, including crazing and some various matrix matches. If this stone didn't have these imperfections, it would be worth many thousands. As it stands, it's still worth several hundred because of the bright color play and nice look of the stone. Perfect for a pendant.

This Opal has decent color in direct sunlight, but is mostly inert in indoor lighting. The cutter used a black marker on the back of the stone, which is very common for crystal Opal. It helps show off the color play. It's not a permanent enhancement, but can be easily removed with nail polish remover.
